SSS Void Ascension: I Devour All Elements

Chapter 177 177: Request

I will be really busy for the next few days. There was a lot of underground work to be done in case her stepfamily tried to file a missing person report.

They were not above being shameless even if she's a grown woman they had ordered around.

"Tomorrow, get her lawyer to handle the will of the late father and what pertains to her company." I told Rufus, taking a sip of my coffee. "Bring them in." I could hear Hansel scratching the door impatiently.

Rufus opened the door, and a dark haired girl, gripping a cat by its stomach, shuffled inside quickly.

I could never understand how that cat, Chin, was comfortably being held like that. After many checks, we confirmed he actually was.

I slid my chair back, giving the little girl a chance to wedge herself between my thighs, saying nothing. As always.

Chin left her hold and got on my table. I grabbed my glass of coffee from the edge before he got to it. A soft sigh left me.

"Thank you, Rufus." He was still at the door, smiling. He would stay rooted there, watching Chin for hours if he wasn't brought out of his trance.

"Ah, yes, welcome." He closed the door behind him.

I stared down at the girl, gripping my trousers. Since we wouldn't be having a discussion, I could still enjoy my coffee and reread the last report. Chin had already curled up on the other stack of reports.

I still remembered when I met these kids, Hansel and Greta. Orphaned siblings my grandfather had adopted seven years ago.

He met them in a forest while torturing some of his clients. A wounded boy ran to him for help with a few months old baby. Since then, they have been staying with us.

Hansel wasn't very communicative and I couldn't exempt growing up in a Mafia Conglomerate as one of the reasons.

Her brother also became a fighter and has more physical kills than I do. He never used a gun. Greta claimed he had no regrets.

His options were keep getting molested by their pack Alpha, and have baby Hansel sold to some smugglers. Or commit suicide with his baby sister.

My grandfather had given him a chance to survive along with his sister. I would've personally preferred if they were taken in by one of our minor families but it was too late to break the bonds.

"Excuse me." I said to Hansel and made her stand up from my seat. Her hold on me tightened and I fell back on my seat. I stared at the printer I wanted to use. "I'd like to use the printer for work. Can I?"

Grandfather always said to speak to her nicely and she'd react to the tone of your voice. That worked really well as she let go, holding the desk now.

I looked through the document I needed to print on my tab before sending them to the printing machine.

One of them included another contract, like Contract 21, but signed by Donna-belle herself.

She had to know we were working under her influence at the moment, not just because of what her father planned.

She wanted to be responsible for all the dealings so this was the least I could do for her. I sensed Rufus's presence at the door again. He didn't knock immediately so I opened it for him.

As I guessed, he held a large box in both hands. He nodded in thanks and dropped the box on the table beside the door.

"I got everything from the Miss' room. Helped by the nanny who worked there. According to her, she added things that belonged to her step-mother and step-sister that should've been Donna's."

I raised a brow at that. That nanny was messy. Didn't she want to keep her job with the family? I gestured for him to send the box away and he sighed. "Wouldn't you check what's in it first?"

What could be in there apart from clothes? Let her be the one checking those or it'd be invading her privacy. Rufus still stayed in the room so I figured he noticed something suspicious inside the box.

"You wouldn't bring in a box that has a bomb inside the house, would you?" I tilted my head.

He shook his head. "But I still want you to see it for yourself. Did you know that Mrs. Draven's death wasn't a simple matter? J don't know if she'd want to know about it yet."

I narrowed my eyes at him, then shifted my gaze to the box. Had the nanny added the truth of Mrs. Draven's death in the box?

She must've really lost her mind.

Grandfather told me about the unusual death of Mrs. Draven. He didn't say more but that just meant it was an assassination attempt.

Since that's one of the reasons he got involved with my grandfather in the first place—and left his pack, becoming a rogue— my grandfather must've helped him track down the imbeciles that killed his wife.

"Is the stepmother involved? Mr. Draven wouldn't have married her if he suspected something." I walked to the box, looking down at it and second guessing every thought coming to mind.

If that lady had been involved in killing Mrs. Draven, then to finish my grandfather's job, I'd behead her.

"I'd open it up." Rufus said simply.

Hansel ran to me. She held onto my leg, while leaving towards the box. She must think it was a present for her.

A foul smell engulfed the room when it opened. Rufus took out a stained bag and returned it inside a box.

"Sorry. It must've spilled out while I was carrying it." He dropped it on my table and I visibly cringed.

"On the ground."

He listened. "The nanny took it from the stepmother's room. She said it was the placenta and umbilical cord belonging to—"

I gagged and held onto Hansel.

Rufus stopped talking and let me make a quick run to the bathroom, sending Hansel and Chin to the playroom, before returning with a refilled glass of coffee.

"That stepmother is deranged."

"She is," he agreed. "But that's not all."
