Chapter 581 - 579: Let Me Show You Something Hilarious
He took his sister’s hand, looking her up and down. "Clara, how are you feeling? Are you tired? Do you still feel that tightness in your chest and shortness of breath, like before? How does your body feel now?"
When her brother said that, Clara froze. She lifted a hand and looked down at her body. She felt so light and free. Aside from the slight awkwardness of walking on two feet again after just returning to her body, this was, astonishingly, the best she had ever felt in her entire life.
"Huh... Brother, I feel great."
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
There wasn’t a hint of tightness in her chest or shortness of breath, and she didn’t feel tired at all. She could even sense that her body was now full of strength, and she felt incredibly alert. Clara, who had never enjoyed such a healthy body, wore an expression of utter disbelief.
In the past, she had always been too weak to lift or carry anything.
"I... Brother... I think my body is healed. I don’t feel tired or short of breath at all. In fact, I feel like I have boundless energy." She clenched her fists as she spoke, genuinely feeling the strength within them.
"Brother, is this real?"
She grabbed her brother’s hand, her face flushed with excitement, and couldn’t stop herself from hopping in place. ’This is real. It feels so good, so healthy.’ The physical sensation was undeniable.
Her sister’s confirmation brought a smile to Corwin Ainsworth’s face. "Clara, you’re really better... You look so full of life, too. I’ll get a doctor to give you a proper check-up later."
He finally noticed it then—his sister’s face was no longer pale and bloodless like it used to be. She looked the picture of health.
After the bizarre two-year ordeal of having their soul bodies separated from them, they never expected it to be a blessing in disguise.
Once she understood the whole story, Celeste Grant glanced at the Ainsworth siblings. "Now, how do you want to deal with them?"
Hearing this, the siblings’ gazes fell upon the two wintergourds kneeling there.
When they really thought about it, these two wintergourds hadn’t caused them any real harm. It was all a misunderstanding caused by poor communication. While occupying their bodies, they had healed their father’s leg and nursed Clara’s body back to health. So, all things considered, although the process had been terrifying, the outcome was good.
They couldn’t bring themselves to forgive the creatures, but they weren’t ungrateful people, either. They had clearly benefited from the situation.
With this in mind, Corwin stepped forward.
He cupped his hands in a salute toward Celeste Grant. "Princess Consort, these two wintergourds are not inherently bad. They didn’t cause us any harm; in fact, they healed my father’s leg and my sister’s body. For that, I am quite grateful. So, could you perhaps just let them return to where they came from? As long as they don’t come looking for us again, that will be enough."
Initially, they had wanted to fight these two Fiends to the death. But now that they understood it was all a misunderstanding, their anger had dissipated.
Although they knew the two wintergourds meant no harm, he and his sister were ordinary people and still felt wary of such beings. Still, he had no intention of harming them, as long as they promised not to seek them out again.
The two wintergourds kneeling on the ground never expected the siblings to speak on their behalf.
"You’re actually speaking up for us."
Clara said, "We misunderstood before. You didn’t intend to harm us, so of course, we won’t harm you. Although we... look different, even among Fiends, there must be good ones and bad ones."
Fiends?
The two wintergourds spoke up to correct her, their tone serious. "What nonsense is this? We aren’t Fiends. We’re a type of Earth Spirit."
"That’s right. We aren’t Fiends, so don’t make things up."
Corwin cupped his hands toward them.
"In any case, thank you for healing my father’s leg and restoring my sister’s body to health. We’re very grateful."
The two wintergourds glanced at them and said, "No need for thanks. This was just our payment for occupying your bodies. Now we’re even. We can agree not to bother you again, but we can’t leave yet."
"That’s right, we can’t leave," the other wintergourd added. "Our clan chief said our master is in this world. We’re not leaving until we find him."
"Right! So you can forget about it. Don’t even think about driving us away."
The two wintergourds hugged each other.
"Even if we die, we’ll die here."
"And if we die, our master will never let you off! Our master is powerful beyond your imagination!"
Celeste Grant grew even more curious about this "master" the wintergourds kept mentioning. She reached out her hand and, with a gentle grasp, instantly transformed the two creatures into balls of black mist that landed in her palm.
She bounced them lightly. Watching the two balls of black mist roll around in her hand until they looked dizzy, she couldn’t help but laugh. "So, you’ll be my servants from now on? Who agrees? Who objects?"
"I... I object."
"Heh. Objection overruled."
’I’ll keep these two wintergourds for now; they might be useful later. They’re from the Cunmere Realm, so they must know a lot about it. Maybe Javier and I will have to go there someday. After all, our son is still there!’
With that decided, she said, "I’m taking these two wintergourds with me. As long as I’m here, they won’t bother you again. Besides, they occupied your bodies for two years, and in that time they healed your father’s leg and restored your sister’s health. Consider your karmic slate wiped clean. You owe each other nothing."
As she spoke, Celeste Grant waved her hand gently.
"Go to sleep now. When you wake up, you won’t remember what happened tonight. You won’t remember this incident with your soul bodies, either. You’ll just think you had a dream you can’t quite recall."
As Celeste Grant’s voice faded, the Ainsworth siblings turned and walked back to their respective rooms to sleep.
’I’ve caught what I came for. Time to head back.’
As for making the Ainsworth siblings forget, it was for the best. An ordinary person’s Divine Soul is very weak. Remembering such things was not good for them; over time, it could cause their Divine Soul to become unstable.
Celeste Grant stood where she was. Her gaze swept over the house before her, and her figure vanished on the spot.
When she reappeared, she was back in her own courtyard at The Warden’s Northern Manor. The moment her figure materialized, she called out.
"Javier! Javier, come out here!"
"I’ve got something hilarious to show you."
As her voice fell, a figure appeared before her. He stood not far away, glanced at her, and then walked closer. The newcomer was Javier Sinclair.
Seeing Celeste Grant, he asked,
"What’s all the shouting for? It’s the middle of the night. Where did you just go?"
