The Stranger Behind My Orgasm

Chapter 270: WOMAN TO WOMAN

Abigail

Which was worse, prison or hospital? I couldn’t decide. They both reeked of bleach and antiseptic. They both gave me the creeps. Why were their walls all painted white as well?

Heck, even their seats were hard against my ass. I sat in the cold waiting room, my hands clasped tightly in my lap, staring at the scuffed floor.

They checked me like a thousand times before letting me into the waiting room; you’d think I was here to see the president. They had even checked me with a metal detector!

What did they think I would do exactly? Slip Victoria a bobby pin to escape?

I would rather free Alicia Duke, and that was saying a lot, because I would never free her. I’m just saying, if I had a gun to my head and had to choose between Skinny Lee and Crazy Victoria, I’d take the bullet.

After the guards had checked my ID twice, I was led in here, where I waited behind the glass, my heart hammering with a mix of rage and nerves.

It was a Saturday. Finnegan was back home on a conference call, and I had told him I was going grocery shopping, not visiting his ex-wife.

But I had come for closure and to put Victoria in her place. Victoria was brought in a few minutes later. It was hilarious seeing her hold her nose up while wearing the orange jumpsuit.

Her hair was pulled back tightly, and there were dark circles under her eyes. I would bet her fellow inmates did not appreciate her snobbish attitude one bit.

She sat down across from me, eyes narrowing. "Well, well. If it isn’t the little homewrecker. Have you come to gloat? Orange looks good on me, doesn’t it?"

I smiled sweetly, leaning forward. "Orange does suit you. It brings out the bitterness in your eyes. How’s prison life treating you, Victoria? Are you missing your fake reconciliation tours yet?"

She barked a bitter laugh. "That’s cute. What do you want? Did you come to rub it in that you finally got Finnegan all to yourself? Enjoy it while it lasts. He gets bored easily."

My teeth ground against each other, but I fought hard to keep my voice calm. "I came for the truth. Angel told me what you said to her. That she might not be Finnegan’s daughter. That she’s Devin’s. Was that you just being a cruel bitch, or is there actually something to it?"

Victoria’s smile widened. "Oh, you really don’t know anything, do you? Poor little Abigail, still playing detective after all these years. Yes, I said it. And no, it’s not true, but that girl deserves to fucking suffer after turning me in!"

My stomach twisted. "You’re disgusting. Was there really any need to go this far?"

Victoria leaned closer to the glass, eyes glittering with malice. "Why not? High risk, high reward, right? I mean, you would know that, unless you’re just as stupid as your parents,"

"Say shit about my parents, and this glass won’t be enough to keep me from hurting you," I fumed, and she rolled her eyes.

"You should have just enjoyed your life and stopped snooping around," she hissed.

"Do you think Devin is going to let this go? He loves me, and he’s a very vengeful man, in case you haven’t noticed. You came along, sniffing around like a little rat, and you have no idea — you just signed your death warrant."

"And yet I’m not the one buried six feet deep, or locked up in jail, or wandering around like a fugitive," I retorted, leaning back in my seat.

"Yeah," she sneered, eyeing me with disgust. "Here you are, still breathing. It’s annoying, really."

I stared at her, chest tight with rage. "You’re a monster. You helped murder my parents, you used your own daughter as a weapon against Finnegan. You don’t deserve Angel or Finnegan. You don’t deserve anything."

Victoria’s smile only widened. "And you think Finnegan will stay with you? He’s incapable of real love. He only loves power and control. You’re just a distraction. A pretty little secretary who warmed his bed while he was bored. He’ll get tired of you eventually. He always does."

"Really? I think you’re confusing Finnegan with yourself. Wicked people always assume everyone else is just as rotten. I love him. I never planned to. I always hoped for the kind of love my grandparents had, the kind my parents had. I never thought I’d find it in Finnegan’s arms. But I did." I

leaned forward, holding her eyes. "And I will do everything in this world to protect that love. That includes making sure you stay the fuck away from Angel. If you ever say that poison to her again, I will make sure you never see the light of day. Ever."

Victoria’s eyes flashed with fury, but the guard signaled that time was up. She stood, smoothing her jumpsuit with as much dignity as she could muster.

"You think you’ve won?" she hissed. "This isn’t over."

"Oh, is it? What are you going to do? Escape from prison? I hear Finnegan’s making sure you can’t get bail until the court hearing,"

"You stupid girl, you have some nerve,"

"Try to be a little more creative, Victoria," I fake-yawned, rising to my feet. "I guess I’ll see you in court when we catch your precious Devin. I don’t think he’s coming back for you, considering his last known location was Denver."

Her lips parted in sheer shock, her entire face going pale. It was so satisfying, I almost didn’t want to walk away, but I did. I had better things to do.

My phone rang in my purse as I approached the car. I pulled it out, expecting a call from Finnegan. Instead, it was Meemaw’s number flashing across the screen.

That was odd. We had spoken that morning.

I swiped to answer the call. "Hi, Meemaw—"

"Hi, little Kellerman bitch, guess who’s here?"
