Chapter 11: The Playboy Dad (11)
In the past few days, Qi Wenfeng had been playing wildly, which made Zhou Yan think that he might have been affected by something. Qi Wenfeng didn’t explain; he was either playing games with friends or going to the bar to have fun. It seemed like he was letting off steam.
Zhou Yan specifically sent Qi Wenfeng’s current state to Qi Sheng, but Qi Sheng just glanced at it and didn’t reply to her.
Soon, it was the seventh day of the new year. The excitement of the holidays gradually faded away. After a year of visiting relatives and friends, Qi Wenyan had gotten to know many people from both the Qi and Bai families who had good relationships with them. However, after the hustle and bustle, it was time for him to focus and review his studies.
Qi Wenyan was quite smart. In the past, his study time had often been taken up by other things, but now, with a tutor hired by the family, his review was going smoothly. Qi Sheng couldn’t help but feel impressed, thinking that Qi Wenyan hadn’t inherited his “poor student” genes.
As if on cue, Qi Wenfeng finally returned to normal that day. After breakfast, looking at his mother, he confidently said, “Mom, you don’t have to worry. I’ll study hard from now on, and I’ll get into F University just like Qi Wenyu!”
Seeing his mother’s excited expression, Qi Wenfeng continued, “Dad told me that grandpa will agree to let me return to the Qi family soon…”
Before Qi Wenfeng could finish speaking, Zhou Yan’s excitement interrupted him: “Really? Your dad really said that? Haha, my child, we’ve finally made it!”
Qi Wenfeng nodded affirmatively, watching his mother’s excitement. “Mom, Dad said I also have the right to compete for the Qi family’s inheritance. Don’t worry, I’ll work hard. I’m planning to review well this semester and try to get into F University’s affiliated high school on my own. That way, when I return to the Qi family, Grandpa will be happy.”
Zhou Yan felt like she was in a dream. She had thought that after Qi Sheng came, their lives wouldn’t get any better. But unexpectedly, her son suddenly became sensible today. At this moment, Zhou Yan couldn’t help but cry.
Qi Wenfeng gently wiped away his mother’s tears. “So, Mom, you don’t need to plan for me anymore or make any secret moves. Those won’t escape Dad’s eyes.” Looking at Zhou Yan, who was stunned, Qi Wenfeng pressed his lips together. “Dad said that if he catches you making moves behind his back again, not only will he send you away, but he’ll also cancel my right to inherit. So, Mom, for my sake, just focus on being a regular supporting mom. Trust me, I’ll give you a good future!”
Zhou Yan didn’t quite process it at first, but seeing her son’s serious face, she still agreed, “Don’t worry, Mom will never hold you back. I’ll listen to you…”
The conversation between mother and son came to an end. As he had said, Qi Wenfeng indeed focused hard on his studies, even giving up his once-loved music.
Qi Sheng had observed him a few times, and when he saw his son’s continuous progress, he couldn’t help but sigh. His son, who was nothing like him, was a straight-A student!
In these days, aside from watching over his sons, Qi Sheng often went out with his old friends to have fun. If he had stayed at home obediently, it would have been the surprising thing for the Qi family.
Having just returned from outside, Qi Sheng cheerfully brought a bundle of herbs back to the Qi family.
The old man, who had been sitting in the yard resting, glanced at him as he entered, and with a habitual glare, asked curiously, “What’s that you’re carrying?”
“Haha, good stuff, Dad. Wait until I prepare it, and I’ll let you try it!”
This time, Qi Sheng had gone with two friends to Bai Mountain in the Eastern Market. During the trip, he found quite a few rare herbs. Sticking to the principle of not letting something valuable go to waste, he dug up a lot and brought them back. His two friends were speechless. Who would confidently search for herbs in the wild based on a phone search? They had fun, thinking Qi Sheng was just enjoying himself. They figured that the recent events in the Qi family had really stirred him up, and hadn’t they noticed how he had ignored all the women trying to get close to him? Some people who were secretly jealous of Qi Sheng’s good fortune couldn’t help but feel a bit pleased, thinking, “You’ve got your comeuppance now!”
In the past, Qi Sheng had played the role of a highly respected traditional Chinese medicine doctor a few times, even earning the attention of the emperor who wanted him for consultations. Some of the health-preserving medicinal wines he made were rare and priceless, yet they had no market value. But now, whatever Qi Sheng did, he had to use his phone to search for things as a cover, so it didn’t draw anyone’s attention.
The old man didn’t believe he could actually make anything, but he still reminded him: “Xiao Yan is about to take the college entrance exam, so stop running around. Stay home and spend time with the kids!”
“I know, Dad.” Qi Sheng thought about how one son was preparing for the college entrance exam while the other was preparing for the high school entrance exam. Though he couldn’t be of much help, he knew he had to support them emotionally.
After putting things away, he went to Wenyan’s room. The child was reading, and when he saw his father return, he was very happy.
“Just a few more days of hard work. After the exam, I’ll take you out for a good time!” Since he couldn’t help with the grades, rewarding him for the effort was the least he could do.
Qi Wenyan was really moved by that. Honestly, the past six months of studying had been exhausting, but with such a high goal, there was no choice but to work hard.
Father and son chatted for a while, and Qi Sheng didn’t disturb him any further. The child had developed his own study habits, so he didn’t want to just tell him to rest today and study tomorrow.
He then went to Wenyu’s room and saw him staring at the screen, working diligently.
“Alright, take a break. You’ve really learned your grandfather’s workaholic trait. At such a young age, all you’re thinking about is your career. What’s that about?” After the New Year, Wenyu hadn’t gone back to intern at Qi Corporation. The old man had been a bit displeased at first, but after Wenyu insisted, he gave up. However, without going to the company, Wenyu had returned to the same path he had taken in his previous life. It seemed that in a few years, there would be another new rising star in the investment world.
“Dad, you’re back. I’ll be done in a second.” The person who had been seriously staring at the computer smiled unconsciously when he saw Qi Sheng return.
Over the past six months, the relationship between Qi Wenyu and Bai Ruoqing hadn’t become too distant or too close. Although it wasn’t as affectionate as it used to be, Qi Wenyu was content. On the other hand, his previously distant relationship with his father had improved drastically over this period, so he was genuinely happy to see his dad back.
Qi Sheng didn’t leave, just sat beside Wenyu and watched him work. When they saw stock trends, Qi Sheng would ask his son to analyze the situation and share some insider information he had heard from his friends, helping his son avoid some pitfalls. Qi Wenyu felt that his father’s frequent outings weren’t without benefits.
Tomorrow was Sunday, and Qi Sheng couldn’t wait to organize the herbs he had collected. Given how Wenyu was becoming more of a workaholic, Qi Sheng quickly had him help with the work.
The child was obedient, doing whatever he was asked to do. However, when he saw the computer screen and a bunch of herbs he couldn’t even name, he couldn’t help but feel speechless. When did his father develop such an interest?
But as a son, he had no choice. Listening to his father’s instructions, he focused on organizing these so-called medicinal herbs. Qi Wenyu couldn’t help but glance at the names, functions, and preparation methods displayed on the screen. He couldn’t resist complaining to his dad: “Dad, you don’t even know much about traditional Chinese medicine. Why are you messing with these herbs? If you really like them, you can just buy them at the pharmacy!”
“Don’t understand, huh? These herbs aren’t available at any pharmacy. Even if they are, they’re not willing to sell them. Recently, I got an ancient prescription for medicinal wine. I heard that the medicinal wine made from this recipe was so good that even the emperor wanted it!”
Qi Wenyu: “……”
Qi Wenyu didn’t know how to respond and had a vague feeling that his father had been scammed!
But now, he was smart enough to know he had to save face for his father, so he obediently nodded and continued working.
Father and son worked together from morning until noon, just managing to finish organizing the herbs before lunch. Looking at the neatly arranged medicinal herb shelf, Qi Wenyu couldn’t help but feel a bit proud.
Since some of the herbs needed to be dried, cut, or roughly ground, while others were best kept fresh, Qi Sheng didn’t plan on soaking the medicinal wine today. He happily admired the well-organized herbs, thinking that they were treasures—his hard work in the wild had definitely paid off.
