Shani finally seemed to return from his thoughts as he took a slow breath.
Then he lifted his head.
He still did not look directly toward Yami.
Instead, he extended his palm.
A ring appeared within it.
It was dark and elegant, shaped around the figure of a raven.
Two small red gemstones formed its eyes, and even without Shani explaining its nature, there was something unsettling about those tiny crimson stones.
Devara looked at it carefully.
Shani spoke quietly.
"This is an artifact closely connected to me."
He held the ring toward Devara.
"It carries a portion of my divine authority. When worn by another, it allows my Drishti to fall upon those who oppose its wielder or those who act against him from behind his back."
Devara’s expression became thoughtful.
"Your Drishti?"
Shani nodded.
"My gaze is not merely a gaze. It is judgement."
The words caused several of the gods nearby to become more attentive.
"Those who betray the wearer, plot against him or commit acts which results in bad karma against him while believing themselves hidden may find my Drishti falling upon them. Their actions will not remain concealed forever."
Devara looked at the raven-shaped ring.
But Shani’s expression became more serious.
"There is, however, one condition."
Devara waited for Shani to reveal the condition.
"If the wearer themselves commits Adharma while possessing this artifact, my Drishti will not distinguish between the wearer and their enemies."
Silence.
"The judgement will fall upon the wearer as well."
The reaction was immediate.
Surya Dev’s expression tightened.
He knew better than most what Shani’s Drishti could mean.
Parvati, Saraswati and Lakshmi exchanged concerned glances, their expressions turning serious. Ganga and Bhudevi looked directly toward Devara, worry appearing in their eyes.
They all knew the nature of Shani’s influence.
His Drishti was not something to be taken lightly.
Where his judgement fell, hardship could follow.
Trials could arrive from unexpected directions.
Fortune could disappear, obstacles could multiply and a person’s life could be forced through a period of profound testing.
It was not simply punishment.
It was judgement.
And sometimes that judgement became a furnace through which a person was forced to prove what truly existed within them.
Devara looked at the raven ring for a long moment.
Then he looked toward Shani.
Shani finally raised his eyes slightly, though he still avoided looking directly at Yami.
"I give this to you because I believe you understand responsibility,"
he said quietly.
"But remember what I have told you. The artifact will not protect you from my judgement. If you walk the path of Dharma, you need not fear it. If you abandon that path, the ring will not care that you are my sister’s husband."
Devara’s expression remained calm.
He extended his hand and accepted the ring.
"I would expect nothing less from you."
Shani’s expression softened slightly.
Devara looked down at the raven-shaped artifact resting in his palm.
Around him stood gods, kings, sages, relatives and his newly married wives.
The gifts he had received that day had ranged from simple fruits and children’s toys to priceless jewels and divine weapons.
And now, among them, he held two of the most terrifying gifts he had received.
One could erase millions in a moment and bind their souls to Yama Lok.
The other carried the judgement of Shani himself.
Devara slowly closed his fingers around the ring.
He understood that neither gift was meant merely to increase his power.
They were reminders.
Power demanded responsibility.
And even a king who possessed the strength to challenge gods could never place himself above Dharma.
Devara calmly examined the raven-shaped ring resting in his palm, turning it slightly beneath the light of the wedding lamps.
The tiny red gemstones forming the raven’s eyes seemed almost alive, and the faint divine energy moving through the metal made it clear that this was no ordinary ornament.
It carried a fragment of Shani’s authority, and Devara could already sense that the artifact was connected to something far greater than its physical appearance suggested.
After studying it for another moment, Devara looked toward Shani.
"Brother, would you put it on me yourself?"
Shani’s expression changed slightly.
For a brief moment, he seemed caught off guard by the request.
He had expected Devara to simply wear it himself, perhaps after accepting the warning that accompanied it.
Instead, Devara was asking him to place the ring upon his hand personally.
Shani hesitated before giving a small nod.
"Very well."
He stepped closer.
Devara extended his hand toward him.
Shani deliberately kept his gaze lowered.
He carefully avoided looking directly at Devara’s hand, focusing instead on the ring itself.
His fingers gently took hold of the raven-shaped artifact before he slipped it onto Devara’s finger.
The instant the ring settled into place, a faint pulse of divine energy travelled through Devara’s hand.
Shani immediately withdrew his fingers.
Devara looked at the ring.
"It fits perfectly."
Shani gave a faint smile but still did not raise his eyes.
Yami had been watching the exchange from nearby.
Her happiness from the wedding had not completely erased the sadness she felt whenever she saw her brother behaving this way.
She stepped closer to Devara and quietly spoke so that only he could hear.
"Do not take it personally that he cannot look at you."
Devara turned toward her.
Yami lowered her voice further.
"There is a curse upon him. Because of it, Shani cannot look directly at the people even if they were some one he loves. His gaze can bring terrible consequences upon them destroying them, and he has spent years avoiding looking at those closest to him because he does not want to hurt them."
Her eyes briefly moved toward Shani.
"That is why he keeps looking at the ground."
Devara became silent.
For a moment, something stirred within his mind.
A memory.
Not from this life from his pervious life where he read about Lord Shani’s life and how everyone misunderstood him.
Then one particular thought suddenly struck him.
Devara’s eyes narrowed slightly.
’Wait.’
He remembered one of his titles.
Fate’s Favorite Child.
The title had never been merely ornamental.
There had been an ability associated with it, something connected to the manipulation and rejection of curse itself.
Devara had previously considered its power mostly in relation to his own destiny, but now another possibility entered his mind.
’Could it nullify curses?’
He remained outwardly calm, but his thoughts began moving rapidly.
He knew that his own abilities had allowed him to overcome things that should have been impossible.
But the question was whether the authority of Fate’s Favorite Child extended beyond himself.
’If I can nullify a curse placed upon me... does that mean I can nullify a curse placed upon someone else?’
His gaze slowly moved toward Shani.
The answer was not immediately obvious.
Perhaps the title could only protect its bearer.
Perhaps it could interfere with the threads of fate surrounding another person.
Or perhaps there were conditions he had not yet discovered.
Devara did not want to act recklessly.
Shani had lived with this curse for a long time.
It had affected his relationship with his parents, his wives and even his own sister.
If there was truly a way to remove it, Devara wanted to know before attempting anything.
But there was another thought that made him hesitate.
’If this ability really can break another person’s curse...’
His eyes briefly met Yami’s worried expression.
’Then perhaps Shani could look at his family again.’
Devara looked back at the raven ring on his finger.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
He would have to investigate the ability.
Carefully.
Because if Fate’s authority truly allowed him to interfere with another person’s curse, then the wedding gift Shani had just placed upon his hand might not be the only thing Devara could give something to him in return.
Devara took a slow, deliberate breath.
For several moments, he simply stood there, his eyes resting upon Shani.
The thought that had entered his mind refused to leave.
He had never attempted something like this before, and even with the confidence granted by his title as Fate’s Favorite Child, he understood that interfering with a curse was not something that should be done casually.
A curse was not merely an unpleasant spell that could be broken by force.
It was an alteration woven into the very circumstances of a person’s existence, and Shani’s curse was especially complicated because it was tied to his divine Drishti.
Still, Devara had made his decision.
’I will try.’
He slowly raised his hand.
At first, nothing happened.
Then the air around his palm began to tremble.
A tiny point of golden light appeared at the center of his hand, expanding outward until an intricate symbol formed upon his palm.
It resembled an infinite symbol, two golden loops intertwined endlessly within one another, yet the longer anyone looked at it, the less it seemed like an ordinary symbol and the more it appeared to represent something far older than creation itself.
The symbol began rotating.
Golden radiance poured from it.
The light was neither fire nor lightning. It carried no heat and made no sound. Instead, it descended like a column of pure brilliance, enveloping Shani completely.
Shani froze.
For the first time since he had arrived at the wedding, he forgot about keeping his gaze lowered.
He could feel something touching the very foundation of his existence.
Not attacking him.
Not forcing itself upon him.
It was searching.
The golden light moved through his body, passing through his divine energy and reaching something much deeper. Shani’s expression slowly changed as he sensed the curse itself reacting.
Around him, the atmosphere became strangely still.
