Chapter 136: Arrival at the Hub
The fourteenth day arrived without ceremony.
Lian stood on the bridge, watching the holographic display as the ship completed its final approach. Outside the observation windows, the trading hub grew from a distant point of light into a sprawling structure of metal, light, and motion. It was massive — a floating city suspended in the void, surrounded by docking rings, defensive platforms, and countless smaller vessels moving in carefully regulated lanes. Lights of every color blinked across its surface. Energy shields shimmered faintly around the outer perimeter.
Lirien stood at the main console, her small hands moving with quiet precision.
“We have clearance to dock at Platform Seventeen,” she said. “Local authorities have scanned us and found no immediate threats. The ship’s signature is masked. We appear as a standard high-grade freighter.”
Lian nodded. “Take us in.”
The ship adjusted course smoothly. Thrusters fired in short, controlled bursts as they approached the designated platform. Through the windows, Lian could see other vessels of every design — sleek courier ships, heavily armed mercenary craft, bulky cargo haulers, and the occasional private yacht belonging to wealthy cultivators. The trading hub was alive with activity. It was a place where the strong gathered, where information and resources changed hands, and where the weak disappeared without a trace.
Elara joined them on the bridge, her thunder blade secured at her side. She watched the approaching structure with careful eyes.
“It’s bigger than I expected,” she said.
“Most major hubs in the lower universe are,” Lirien replied. “This one serves three neighboring star systems. It is controlled by a coalition of merchant clans and a local enforcement force. They are not affiliated with the Eternal Veil Syndicate, but they will still report unusual activity if it benefits them.”
The ship settled into its docking berth with a soft mechanical clunk. Magnetic locks engaged. The external hatches sealed. For a moment, everything was still.
Lian stood from the commander’s chair.
“We go in carefully,” he said. “No unnecessary attention. We gather information about the white-eyed man, the Kharvax Rift, and any resources we need. Then we leave.”
Elara nodded. Lirien simply waited for his next command.
They prepared quickly. Lian wore the Aetherforge Voidweave Suit beneath a simple dark cloak. Elara did the same with her own adaptive gear. Storage rings were secured. Weapons remained hidden but ready. Lirien remained in her usual form — the small, silver-haired girl who looked far too young and far too harmless for what she truly was.
The airlock opened.
The trading hub’s atmosphere was different from the clean, controlled air of the ship. It carried the scents of metal, ozone, cooked food, and the faint metallic tang of Qi crystals being traded in bulk. Crowds moved through the wide corridors — humans, Veyari, Korrak, Mechari, and dozens of other species. Merchants called out their wares. Enforcers in dark armor walked in pairs, eyes scanning the crowd. Private bodyguards flanked wealthy cultivators in expensive robes and augs.
Lian kept his expression neutral and his perception extended just enough to sense nearby threats. Elara stayed close, her posture relaxed but alert. Lirien walked a half-step behind them, her small form drawing occasional curious glances that quickly moved on.
