Chapter 78: Ch 78: Introducing KPI
[Welcome to SOS. You are now viewing the employee benefit guide. Please allow us to explain to you the ranks of our organization.]
[CEO - VC - Manager - Team Supervisor - Team Member]
[Your current rank is Team Member (Rookie). Please do your best and meet your KPIs to raise your rank. Please do not miss the team meetings because they could be key indicators of promotion]
[We hope SOS, also known as the System Official Support will provide you with incredible benefits]
The first page looked like an introductory page to get people familiar with the company. So Rin turned to the next page, hoping to get more information. But the first 100 pages were just the front message translated into different languages.
After that came pages that were censored so he could not even read them.
"Why are these pages censored? Shouldn’t I get access to them as an employee?"
Rin questioned with an irritated voice.
[Tsk, you are getting too far ahead of yourself, Rookie. It has not even been a full day, and you already expect the company to trust you with company secrets? We need to first make sure you are not a spy.]
[Please reach your KPI during the first performance period to unlock the company report.]
[You will be informed about your first KPI task]
The system taunted Rin in a mocking tone. It was a good thing it had no voice because Rin would have tried to kill it if he heard the system speak.
"So tricking me into becoming an employee was not enough? You have to torment me this way as well?"
Rin questioned and the system made a beeping noise.
[Rookie, how can you say that to the system? Are we not treating you fairly? Unfortunately, there is no way to quit at the moment. You will have to move up the ranks first to be able to quit.]
"Is that why you are still here? Because you cannot get promoted?"
[This is false slander. The system just got promoted not too long ago. Rookie, you are getting too comfortable with your seniors. Don’t you fear getting into trouble?]
Rin doubted the system could do anything to harm him at this point. That’s why he confidently replied.
"Can you do anything to me without getting in trouble? I am an employee of the system as well. Won’t your higher-ups have something to say?"
[Y-You! Are you threatening the system? After all the help you got? Ugh, this system might cry in agitation. Rookie, don’t think this is the end. This system will show you the strength of your superiors.]
The system seemed shocked by Rin’s words and disappeared.
Finally, Rin could go back and check SOS’s information.
He turned the page and quickly read through the rest of the document.
There were a lot of words on the next 50 pages and yet, none of them were useful. It was as if someone had been told to write 1500 words and they had twisted the same words to fill the space.
From a quick read, Rin had gathered the following information.
The SOS was created a few years back and operated in the background. Somehow, it had gone unnoticed by everyone (the government may or may not have been involved in this).
It was a body that kept watch on the people during the apocalypse and made sure the world was not destroyed. It had power beyond human reach but felt surprisingly human in nature.
No employee had joined since its creation and Rin was the first one. So he was entering this venture blind. The information provided to him was also restricted.
Last, but most importantly- the SOS had no relation to the original novel or to preserving the story Or, it did not say anywhere in its documents.
Unfortunately, there was no terms and conditions page. There was not even any employee benefit page to look at.
"No matter how you look at it, isn’t this a black company? They really got me at my most desperate time"
Still, the benefits were nothing to scoff at.
Rin had gotten a lot of exclusive skills through the system and he had a feeling he could extract even more if he played his cards right.
But to do that, he would need to raise his level.
[Rookie, your first KPI has been generated. Please take a look at the task.]
[KPI task: Ensuring the ’Calamity of Rose’ takes place before task four concludes.]
"Tsk, I wanted to avoid this."
Rin looked at the task in front of him with a dreaded expression. He could immediately tell that this was not going to be a fun mission for him.
’Calamity of Rose’ was the name given to the accident where one of the harem members lost the last of their family and lost themselves to despair. Since they were the main character of that arc, they had incredible power and became a threat.
Albus, who had just come across the potential harem member, had befriended her not too long ago and pushed her that far and felt responsible for her.
So he tried to pull her back.
Unfortunately, that was one harem member he lost
The harem member’s name had been Haruka and she had been a fan favorite before she died. Even Rin had liked her spunky personality that refused to give in to the MC until the end.
But there was only one problem- she belonged to one of the biggest shelters - Girl Battle Frontier. And she was not an ordinary member either, but the pampered daughter of their leader.
Approaching her was impossible. Heck, even getting close felt daunting. He had wanted to send a message to Girl Battle Frontier to warn them and wash his hands of this case initially.
Now, the terms have changed. He would need to actively look for ways to get acquainted with them.
But before that, it was time for task three to begin.
"Ugh, why do all these things happen at the same time? I can’t keep up with this. And now my wrist is beginning to hurt as well. When will Reina let me out of this strap?"
Rin muttered to himself but there was no answer. He was left waiting in the dark, unable to fall asleep but too tired to keep scrolling.
