My Childhood Friend Turned Yandere in the Apocalypse

Chapter 72: Ch 72: Why is it the neck again?

[A dungeon has opened.

Dungeon Name: Vampire’s Nest.

Type: Human-made

You have been invited by the owner of the Vampire Nest to participate in his feast. Please make sure to keep your necks ready to become his snack. The only way to get out is to either die, or kill the Vampire king.]

So it had been a trap. Did the system know? Most likely, yes

In the original story, the members of the Phoenix Guild would have appeared as staged bosses for the MC and his party and they would have learned about the existence of human-made dungeons.

It was something that had shocked Rin when he had first read the novel.

The thought of humans falling so low that they would not even care about being humans to survive was not unique or far-fetched. But somehow, Rin had not expected such a twist in events.

And now, the same dungeon had appeared much earlier than expected.

[Dungeon Boss: Vampire King [lvl 5]]

The level of the boss was the only information anyone had on it. Unfortunately, most people were still at level 1-2 which made the vampire king seem like an impossible obstacle.

"Boss, what should we do now?"

The others who followed Rin to this dungeon asked, clearly placing their trust in him to lead them out of this dungeon.

But Rin was just as stuck as they were.

The way to resolve this dungeon in the original novel had been to brute force their way through it But that had only been possible because the characters had leveled up from the scenarios.

Currently, they all lack that experience.

’Ah, we are all going to die. But isn’t that a bad thing? Could the main characters really die like this?’

Rin’s mind went through a lot of thoughts but none of them stuck. He was aware of all the eyes on him, waiting for his instructions. But Rin felt stuck.

’What should I do? What should I do now? I-I can’t think of anything.’

The same thoughts kept circulating in his mind until his mind went blank and his surroundings faded. Everything felt hopeless.

[User, are you in a desperate situation? Well, you are in luck. The system is here to help you out.]

[But as much as the system wants to directly interfere, it cannot help you due to the restrictions placed on the user and the system. But don’t worry! The system has a solution. If you agree to become an employee at the wonderful ’SOS’, your safety will be guaranteed.]

[However, there is just one small, teeny-tiny, minuscule condition you don’t need to worry about. Please give me a verbal agreement to join the SOS.]

What was SOS? What did it even mean? Rin had no idea. But the system’s cheerful voice broke through Rin’s panic and brought him back.

’Hey, will you really kill Albus, Shelly and the others? They are the main characters! Can you even afford to do something like this?’

Rin questioned and the system answered immediately.

[User, why are you yelling at the system? The system warned you not to come here, but you insisted.]

[As for your companions...well, main characters are handled by another division. Even I cannot tell what their fate will be. But I can assure you that they will survive. However, the nameless extras and expendable people could be eliminated at any time]

Rin gritted his teeth at the threat. His life was not the only one in danger. Reina, Teressa and the small team he had brought with him could die as well.

"Darn it! These bodies keep getting back up. They keep standing up no matter how many times I put them down. Hey boss, what are our orders now??"

Rin looked around and he immediately turned toward Teressa.

"Teressa, use your abilities to hold these minions down. Our only way out of this situation is to kill the boss."

Rin yelled and everyone nodded at his orders.

Teressa’s powers held the monsters at bay and Rin used his bombs to inflict status effects on these small fry. Teressa let her ability go and they quickly ran toward the central building.

The terrain slowly transformed from modern high-rise to a Victorian-era.

"Did the terrain change because we are in a domain?"

Reina asked as she looked around with a distasteful look. The gothic tall stained-glass windows looked ominous and even Rin felt unsettled.

"This is likely where the boss is. But it is weird. We did not come across a lot of monsters on our way here. I have a bad feeling about it."

Rin had a similar bad feeling and it did not even take a minute before that feeling proved to be true.

Small figures came running out of the cathedral in front of them. Those pale bodies had red eyes and "their skin clung tightly to their bones. But their smiles were the creepiest thing about them.

"Big brother! Big sister! Are you here to feed us? W-We’re so hungry—"

"Fucking hell! Are those kids vampires as well? I-I don’t want to hurt kid but-"

"Then don’t think of them as kids. Think of them as monsters in human flesh."

Albus snapped to make other people snap out of their hesitation and start protecting themselves. But most people still hesitated to fight. They could not bring themselves to shoot someone who looked the same age as their nephew or niece.

Those kids got too close and Teressa immediately used her powers to hold them in place. But she was struggling because there were too many monsters.

"H-Hurry up and go. F-Fight the boss and come back. I won’t be able to hold them back for much longer-"

Rin felt sorry for her so he used the last of his enhanced bombs to make the vampire children fall asleep.

Teressa collapsed after using her abilities and Rin passed her a potion.

"My bomb’s effects won’t last long. We need to finish the boss before it’s too late."

Everyone nodded and entered the cathedral. The first thing they all noticed was the empty hall that was illuminated by the light from the stained glass. The atmosphere looked hauntingly familiar.

But the boss was nowhere to be found.

Rin sensed sudden movement beside him and the next thing he saw was Shelly and Albus being thrown into the wall.

The shadow that attacked them slowly began to gather until it took shape and a sleazy-looking man stood before them. Even his grin was unsettling and Rin tried to attack him, only for the boss to grab his arm instead.

’Oh shit! I think I might die.’

That was the last thought that crossed Rin’s mind before fangs ripped his throat apart.
