Chapter 50: Ch 50: Wake up and leave
[System Reconnecting...]
[Checking user condition]
Rin was having an incredible sleep when he heard the buzzing noise. He ignored it and tried to fall back asleep. But the noise continued in his head like a persistent alarm.
[Current exhaustion level: 10%. Condition: Perfect]
[All body functions are working normally. No need for extreme emergency protocol]
Rin tried to reach for his phone, but his hand touched nothing. So he tried to reach for the phone that should have been on his bedside table, only to fall off the bed.
The sudden burst of pain made Rin open his eyes and he instantly recalled what happened to him.
"Oh shit! They drugged me. I cannot believe them...well, Reina certainly seemed capable of it...but how did she convince Shelly to hold me down?"
It was suspicious how seamlessly Shelly, Reina and Teressa had worked to hold him down and ensure he could not escape. Rin had a feeling that those three could do anything if they put their minds to it.
Maybe even clear the apocalypse before the end of the year.
[User, your thoughts have started to spiral out of control. May I suggest therapy sessions with an expert? User satisfaction is 100% guaranteed.]
The excited system screen greeted Rin as soon as he came to terms with the fact that he had been drugged by people he trusted.
"Sorry, I don’t think this breach of trust is something that therapy can fix. Also, how much will the therapy cost me? I’m not exactly made of money."
Rin had a lot of money, but he needed to save it all for the future. Potions and medicine were expensive and Rin also wanted to stock up on some recovery potions.
’I also have a feeling that I will need a lot of stamina recovery items if I want to keep up.’
[User, please do not tarnish the system’s good name. The system has already made an exception for you and rewarded you with a seller account. How can you accuse the system of trying to bankrupt you? The therapy session is only 1 million coins per session.]
"You might as well just rob me at that point."
Rin complained and the system went quiet. After a whole minute of silence, the system decided to pitch Rin another idea.
[User, since therapy is too expensive, how about an alternative? You can get the mental health boosting package for 50% off. The effect is guaranteed to activate around 50% of the time. Buy two and get two 50% chance ups. That’s basically 100% guaranteed.]
That...was not how probability worked. Not even a fool would fall for such a stupid trick.
Rin ignored the system’s mindless chatter for now and got up from the bed. His exhaustion levels were finally under control and his body felt lighter. He could swear his vision had improved.
Even his stats had improved slightly.
[User stats:
Strength: 10->20
Stamina: 25->55
Intelligence: 45->70
MP: 15->55
HP: 550/550]
This was a significant jump compared to last time. Rin was too shocked to even speak. He didn’t think he’d done anything to justify such a big increase. in his stats.
[User, look at your progress. Completing tasks with your life on the line has paid off.. Congratulations!]
Rin felt like laughing out loud and crying bitterly at the same time. He had finally found a fast way to increase his stats, but at what cost?
But maybe he could use it—
[Tsk, Users think it is so easy to level up these days. They try all kinds of methods to cheat the system. Do they think the system is so naive? This system only rewards those who show real effort.]
Rin’s plans faltered before they could even form. This was the system’s way of warning him not to cheat it.
"Fine, I get it. I should get going and check on what’s happening around the mansion."
Rin’s body was clear and his clothes had been changed from his torn outside ones. But he still felt the need to take a bath.
He headed toward his room to get some clothes and take a shower. He did not leave a note, nor did he inform anyone about where he was going. So it didn’t take long for his absence to cause concern.
__________
"It has been 10 minutes. I should go and check on Rin-"
"Sit down. Neither of you are going anywhere in my medical room without my permission."
"I doubt you can stop me before I slit your throat."
Shelly and Reina were having a staring contest and Teressa tried to use this chance to slip away first. But Reina caught the back of her shirt and forced her to sit down.
Reina had a hundred excuses prepared to keep these two out of her medical room. She chose the one she knew they would accept.
"Sit back and listen to me first. You both know that Rin is in a delicate situation right now. I will examine him, but if there is a problem with his immune system, it would be for the best to limit his exposure to the outside world. He might end up in a critical situation if we are not careful."
This was all bullshit. Reina’s scans had not picked up any oddities in Rin’s system. The only thing that showed up was chronic exhaustion.
But she did not want to confirm these things verbally.
In fact, it was better for her if the pair in front of her believed that Rin had an illness that required him to frequently visit Reina. It would give her some time to be alone with him.
Shelly had gone quiet, so Reina was not sure if she believed her or not. But she was ready for Shelly to respond aggressively.
That was why Reina was not surprised when Shelly grabbed her collar and pulled her face closer.
"Reina, are you lying to me? I can still forgive you if you confess right now."
Shelly’s voice had gone cold and her eyes were dark. She was giving Reina a chance to change her mind.
Unfortunately for her, Reina had already made up her mind to go down this path.
"I am not lying to you. Now, sit here and wait for me to confirm Rin’s situation. He will most likely need regular sessions with me in the future as well. But I am sure it will be better for him than to be in pain."
Reina lied smoothly and she did not even feel guilty.
In fact, she felt satisfied after securing more of Rin’s free time in the future.
