Chapter 287: En Garde, Duel Me Now!
Monday, December 14th.
Another day where Farfetch’d fought hard just to avoid getting eaten.
Morning mist filled the air, and a layer of dew had formed on the windows.
Farfetch’d raised its leek and drew a smiley face on the glass.
“Kwaa-gah!”
Thick-browed and bright-eyed, the so-called “scallion pancake” squinted in satisfaction at its masterpiece.
Suddenly, a friendly and familiar bark rang out from behind.
“Awooo~凸(`0´)凸”
The dopey yet lovable Arcanine bared its teeth in a grin, greeting “Coach Scallion” with enthusiasm.
If Gengar was the little ones’ coach,
then Farfetch’d, who hung out nearby and gave occasional pointers, was their official guide.
After all, it did have the Coaching move that buffed the whole team.
Because of that, even rough-and-tumble Arcanine held “Coach Scallion” in high regard.
Farfetch’d gave a calm, courteous nod. Beads of sweat clung to its snowy-white feathers.
Oh sacred light…
He doesn’t… think of me that way, does he?
Farfetch’d started sweating bullets.
Then it gripped its leek and dove into the day’s leek-swinging training.
“Awoo!”
Arcanine couldn’t help but feel a surge of respect.
Even “Coach Scallion” was working this hard.
No way he was slacking off now!
“Morning.”
Lu Ye stepped out of the bedroom, wearing a Gengar-themed hoodie and cradling Togepi in his arms.
He covered a yawn and spoke lazily:
“What do you guys want for breakfast?”
Arcanine tilted its smart-looking head.
Thanks to Farfetch’d’s coaching last night…
It figured it’d let him decide!
“Awoo~”
Arcanine turned to look at Farfetch’d for input.
Farfetch’d froze under the gaze.
And considering what Lu Ye had just asked…
It started sweating even harder.
“Kwaa-gah!”
Farfetch’d politely shook its head.
I’ll skip breakfast! You guys go ahead!
Then it scuttled off with its stubby webbed feet to find Squirtle.
“Seriously, it’s not like we’re actually gonna eat him.”
Lu Ye chuckled.
“Awoo~”
Arcanine nodded with a touch of regret.
Looks like “Coach Scallion” was still a bit shy.
Gotta spend more time bonding!
Lu Ye gave Arcanine’s warm, fluffy mane a rub and went to make breakfast.
Sure, calling Farfetch’d “emergency rations” was a joke.
To Teacher Lu, anyone who joined the team was family.
In fact, if the chance came up,
he was thinking of letting Farfetch’d show up in the livestream sometime.
The kitchen fan beeped as it kicked on.
Sylveon had quietly wandered into the kitchen.
“Bui~”
It gave a soft little cry.
“Almost done,” Lu Ye bent down to ruffle its head.
“I’ll play with you after.”
“Bui~o(´^`)o”
Sylveon replied, I wasn’t asking you to, thank you very much.
Then it pranced out to the living room, leapt onto the sofa, and stared off into space, idly twirling its ribbons.
“Gengarrr!”
In the living room, Gengar, wearing an apron, glared at the robot vacuum.
“Beep… beep…”
The vacuum backed away guiltily and returned to its charging dock.
“Gengarrr! (≧∀≦)♪”
Gengar hummed cheerfully and picked the broom back up.
The breakfast table was loaded with delicious dishes.
Farfetch’d caught a whiff and couldn’t help swallowing hard.
Lu Ye smiled helplessly. “You can train later…”
Hearing this, Farfetch’d set down its leek and politely walked over to the table.
It flapped its stubby wings and hopped into a chair, picking up a bowl and chopsticks with both wings.
Lu Ye’s eyebrow twitched.
You’re awfully good at using chopsticks, huh!?
“Kwaa-gah!”
Farfetch’d had hesitated at first, but then dug in like a whirlwind, tears shimmering in its eyes.
What… is this!?
This is way too good!
Squirtle and Gengar stood there stunned, then quickly grabbed their own bowls and chopsticks: (*⊙~⊙)
No enthusiasm at the table? That’s an attitude problem!
Togepi sat in a booster seat, holding a bag of chips.
“No picky eating!” Lu Ye reminded.
“Toki…”
Togepi obediently set down the bag, then sneakily stuffed one more chip in its mouth.
“Tokipii!”
Blushing bright red, it looked like a guilty little criminal.
After peeking at Lu Ye and confirming he hadn’t noticed,
Togepi immediately broke into a mischievous grin.
…
That afternoon.
Gengar headed to Saffron Gym to teach, and asked if Farfetch’d wanted to come.
“Gengarrr!”
It flashed a toothy grin.
With Farfetch’d there, the lesson might go even faster!
Farfetch’d lay on the sofa and tilted its head in confusion: (:3」∠❀)
You guys… don’t ever rest, do you?
Can a slacker really survive in this kind of place?
Farfetch’d shook its head firmly. “Kwaa-gah!”
No more pretending.
As long as I’m a worthless bum, no one can expect anything from me!
“Gengarrr?”
Gengar tilted its head too but understood—“Coach Scallion” planned to stay home and train its ultimate moves.
Gengar gave a knowing grin and raised a ghostly thumb.
Go for it. Just don’t break the house.
Gengar headed out with Togepi and Arcanine to dominate Saffron Gym’s challengers.
“Bui.”
Sylveon stood gracefully and called over to Squirtle, who was lifting dumbbells.
Wanna go hit up the Fighting Gym?
“Squirtle!”
Its eyes sharpened as it nodded solemnly.
It had just been working on some advanced Aura Sphere techniques.
Now that our lord has committed to the tournament…
We, his vassals, must do our part!
Farfetch’d lay napping on its shield.
When it finally opened its eyes, the room had gone eerily quiet.
Teacher Lu was wearing headphones,
deep in research on Farfetch’d’s dietary needs.
“So that’s how it is…” Lu Ye muttered.
“It feeds on Galarian leeks… I’ll need to order some online…”
Farfetch’d didn’t want to disturb him.
“Kwaa…”
Thick-browed Farfetch’d let out a small sigh.
It was feeling a little… lonely.
The golden rays of dusk spilled through the window, making its leek glow.
Farfetch’d seemed to reach a difficult decision.
It picked up its leek and began to practice fencing.
Even if I’m a slacker…
Farfetch’d’s eyes sharpened.
Don’t look down on me, you b******!
“Kwaa-gah!”
Leek swinging at full force—wide-range slashes enhanced by crit boosts—stirred up a whirlwind.
Lu Ye stood up to grab a cup of tea…
And walked right into this scene.
Farfetch’d… was training moves!?
Lu Ye froze.
What the h**l is going on with this script!?
Crack!
The already fragile wall of Lu Ye’s home split with a sharp fracture.
Farfetch’d jumped, quickly lowering its leek.
Then slowly turned its head to look at Lu Ye. The two locked eyes—and both froze.
“Kwaa-gah! =͟͟͞͞(꒪ᗜ꒪‧̣̥̇)”
Lu Ye calmly poured himself a cup of tea.
“It’s fine… just train outside next time.”
Still, a wave of emotion welled up in his chest.
This is devastating.
Can’t I just raise a proper slacker?
We agreed to fail this class together…
Why are you secretly studying under the covers at night!?
Lu Ye sighed.
“No surprise there… You really are something, Farfetch’d.”
