Chapter 505 - 228: Delivering Themselves to the Door
Hearing this, Zuo Xuan immediately let out a breath:
"Hero Fang is right."
Fang Shuwen gave the man a surprised glance, nodded, then searched Lu Ying’er’s body and pulled out a few gold leaves.
After unceremoniously stuffing them into his robes, he dragged her corpse outside.
The Disguise Technique could fool people for a time, but not forever.
Fang Shuwen didn’t need it to last for too long, either.
He just needed it to serve its purpose tomorrow.
As for whether some unlucky fool might follow the clues to his door... Fang Shuwen wasn’t too concerned.
If someone that clever and sharp-eyed did come looking, he would just toss them into the sea to feed the fish. No big deal.
As long as he wasn’t recognized in a crowded place and it didn’t cause a huge commotion, everything else was fine.
After tossing the body into the sea with a SPLASH, Fang Shuwen returned to the cabin.
Seeing Zhou Zhengze still awkwardly averting his gaze, not daring to look at Luo Shuqing, Fang Shuwen felt a headache coming on.
He lightly patted his shoulder.
"All right, relax."
Then he said to Luo Shuqing and her two companions:
"You all should get some rest, too. We’ll reach Nameless Island by noon tomorrow. Let’s not have any more trouble."
Everyone nodded at his words, and they extinguished the lamps to rest.
The night passed without incident. When morning came, the ship was calm.
All was quiet on the ship...
A full five people had died last night, yet today, it was as if nothing had happened at all.
Fang Shuwen was a little surprised. He’d thought the captain would at least investigate.
But there wasn’t... There was nothing at all.
Later, Zuo Xuan explained to him that people dying on board was all too common.
People from all over the world gather on these ships. No one knows who anyone else is, or what their background is.
In a situation like this, it’s inevitable that people lower their guard and lose their inhibitions.
Some people just disappear, maybe because they flashed their money and caught the wrong person’s eye.
Or maybe it’s a grudge, and they use the cover of a dark night to kill their enemy and dump the body.
Things like this are just too common...
The captain is out on the sea every day; he’s seen it all and is completely used to it.
As long as the fire doesn’t spread to them, they don’t care what happens.
Fang Shuwen had a sudden realization.
"So, you’re saying if someone comes looking for me, I can just kill them and dispose of the body, and there won’t be a problem?"
Zuo Xuan nodded instinctively, then felt that something wasn’t quite right.
’When someone comes looking for you, it’s one thing not to think about running away, but to immediately jump to killing them and destroying the evidence... Is that normal?’
As time passed, an island slowly appeared before them.
This was Nameless Island.
Docking the large ship at the pier was a delicate process that required considerable time and caution.
Once the ship was securely docked, Fang Shuwen led his companions off with the rest of the crowd. The entire process was completely uneventful.
Zuo Xuan didn’t see the leader or the sixth member of the Seven Fiends of the Dark Sea, and they made it to Nameless Island without a hitch.
Not far from the pier was a bustling marketplace.
As usual, he had Zuo Xuan and Zhou Zhengze inquire about ships. The news they brought back was that the next ship leaving Nameless Island for the deeper sea wouldn’t depart until the next morning.
This meant they would have to spend the night on Nameless Island.
Fortunately, Nameless Island had plenty of inns. However, Fang Shuwen didn’t choose to stay at the largest one on the island.
He led the group around for a while before finally settling on a place called the "Cliffside Inn."
The inn was in a rather secluded spot. Behind it, at the edge of Nameless Island, was a cluster of reefs where the current was swift and treacherous, a jagged maze hidden beneath the water.
Fang Shuwen booked two rooms. From their windows, one could see the boundless ocean.
They were authentic sea-view rooms in every sense of the word.
The two women would share one room, and the three men would share the other.
The rooms were adjacent, so Fang Shuwen could respond immediately if anything unexpected happened.
Given the circumstances, no one went out to experience the island’s local customs. They simply idled away the afternoon at the inn.
When evening came, they had a waiter bring dinner and drinks directly to one of the rooms.
The group gathered in one room, planning to eat together before retiring to their respective quarters.
During the meal, Zuo Xuan shed his previously cold demeanor and began chatting with Fang Shuwen about tales from the Jianghu of the East Sea.
Fang Shuwen listened, occasionally adding a comment or two. The atmosphere was surprisingly pleasant.
In the middle of their meal, the corner of Fang Shuwen’s mouth suddenly curled into a smile.
A moment later, the door was suddenly pushed open.
A group of people filed in unceremoniously, fanning out to occupy every corner and surrounding Fang Shuwen and the others.
Zuo Xuan’s expression darkened.
"Who dares to be so rude?"
As he spoke, two more people walked in.
These two were wearing masks. As soon as they entered, someone immediately shut the door behind them.
The two then removed their masks. Zuo Xuan took one look, and his face fell.
Fang Shuwen also glanced at the two men. ’A pity, I don’t recognize either of them.’
His face, however, showed no trace of panic, nor the slightest hint of surprise.
It was the two latecomers whose expressions turned utterly grim as they looked at Luo Shuqing and her two companions.
"Your faces are fake. This Disguise Technique is the work of my third sister."
"Now they have vanished without a trace... Aren’t you going to show your true faces?"
At these words, the expressions of Luo Shuqing and her companions changed instantly.
They thought the disguises would allow them to pass through completely undetected. Who would have guessed someone would see through the ruse?
Fang Shuwen, however, was curious.
"How exactly did you figure it out?"
"Because their faces carry my third sister’s Thousand-Mile Fragrance!"
"It is colorless and odorless, but to us, it’s as bright as a beacon in the night."
The man pointed at Luo Shuqing’s group and revealed the truth without any reservation.
Fang Shuwen clicked his tongue, his expression remaining calm.
"So that’s how it is. You really can’t guard against everything..."
"You’re ’Death Sentence’ and ’Throat Cutting’ from the Seven Fiends of the Dark Sea?"
The other man, a middle-aged fellow with a calm yet powerful aura, heard this and spoke slowly.
"So they really did die at your hands... Then I presume the others must be Miss Luo Shuqing and her two guards?"
Fang Shuwen, ever the curious one, couldn’t help but ask another question.
"And how did you arrive at that conclusion?"
The one called Death Sentence, Shen Cangming, gave him a cold look.
"Because my sworn brothers and sisters would not have targeted anyone else."
"This mission was solely to target Miss Luo..."
Fang Shuwen gave a dry laugh.
"That seems a bit presumptuous, don’t you think?"
Shen Cangming waved his hand dismissively.
"At this point, I have no interest in sorting out the details."
"All of you will be coming with me."
"Someone wants to see you."
"Hm? Someone else?"
Fang Shuwen was taken aback for a moment. He wasn’t particularly surprised that the last two members of the Seven Fiends of the Dark Sea had tracked them down.
In fact, the very reason he’d chosen the Cliffside Inn was to wait for them.
’But now this guy is saying there’s someone else behind the Seven Fiends of the Dark Sea?’
