Chapter 57 : Chapter 57
Chapter 57
It was the hour when dawn had settled.
In the center of Romain.
On Delua Street, where the truly high-class resided, Ellie was doubting her own eyes.
‘No way.’
Delua Street was a place one couldn’t even approach without authority.
The city’s most skilled guards were in charge of security, and occasionally, mercenaries personally hired by the upper class could be seen.
A street that the ordinary citizens of Romain would deliberately avoid, fearing they might get entangled in troublesome matters.
And there, the knight was brandishing his sword.
‘How can a person move like that? Are all knights like this?’
The moon was particularly bright tonight.
Every time the knight’s sword cut down an enemy, it left a gleaming trail of light in the moonlight.
“Team Leader Tian! Request for backup!”
“Damn it, don’t fall back!”
“Ring the alarm bell! There might be more enemies!”
Loud shouts echoed through the street.
Lights turned on in every mansion, and servants could be seen peeking outside their gates.
The enemies the knight was facing numbered in the dozens at a glance.
Because it was such a chaotic battle, reinforcements were flocking from all directions.
But, the speed at which the knight was felling his enemies was much faster.
“If you retreat, I will not cut you down.”
At the knight’s voice she heard then, Ellie was genuinely impressed.
To be able to hold his ground with such composure in this situation.
‘So he really is a knight…….’
This wasn’t the first time Ellie had seen a knight.
She had once caught a glimpse of a so-called knight in armor, but he had a completely different feel from Reinhardt.
Ellie watched the battle with a dazed, enchanted expression.
Sometimes simply.
At other times, just as she thought he was brandishing his sword with flair, an enemy would inevitably fall and roll on the ground.
“Aaargh!”
“Request help from the Order!”
“Truma! Call a priest of Truma!”
Then, Ellie realized.
‘Wait a minute. Don’t tell me he hasn’t killed anyone?’
All the fallen soldiers were alive.
It was a truly astonishing skill.
After all, it was much more difficult to just subdue than to kill.
Being talented in fighting herself, Ellie knew that fact better than anyone.
‘It means he’s much stronger than what I’m seeing now.’
The knight was not using his full strength.
He was just leisurely subduing the soldiers belonging to the city hall, controlling his power appropriately.
But things had already gotten too big.
Most of the mansions on Delua Street had turned on their lights brightly in the chaotic situation and were trying to grasp the situation.
At this rate, reinforcements from the city hall level might flock in.
‘He should get away.’
Ellie felt more anxious herself as she watched Reinhardt.
Then, at a certain moment.
When the ceaseless battle entered a lull for a moment.
Leap.
Reinhardt sheathed his sword, jumped high, and climbed up the nearby wall.
It was a swift and light movement, unbelievable for someone in armor.
“The enemy has fled!”
“Find him!”
“We must not let him get away!”
The soldiers who arrived late shouted loudly and spread out in all directions.
‘……He had a plan all along.’
But this was no time to be impressed.
Ellie followed after Reinhardt with light movements.
She climbed the wall and chased after Reinhardt, who was running across the roofs of the mansions in the distance.
And the place she arrived at was a spot where Otis’s mansion could be seen at a glance.
“Sir Knight.”
Ellie approached Reinhardt, who was standing on the edge of the roof.
“The guys in here are really strong. This is where they’ve gathered only the strongest guys in Redfoot.”
Ellie said with her gaze lowered.
Inside the mansion.
Throughout the splendid garden, armed Redfoot members were moving about.
At a rough glance, there were nearly twenty of them.
“I know you’re strong from what I just saw, Sir Knight, but if you cause a commotion here too, it’ll be hard to clean up.”
“I know.”
“What are you going to do?”
“I’ll have to move quietly.”
Is this something that can be done by moving quietly?
Ellie thought so, but she didn't bother to say it out loud.
After all, she had already witnessed Reinhardt’s skills with her own two eyes.
She didn’t know for sure, but he clearly had a plan of his own.
“I’ll take care of it quickly, so wait a little. Don’t come down until I give the signal.”
“I’m too scared to go even if you tell me to come down. I’m not confident I can survive among them.”
“That’s a relief.”
What on earth was he planning to do? Ellie was now feeling more curiosity than tension.
Reinhardt was stronger and calmer than anyone she had ever seen.
“All the combatants inside the mansion are Redfoot members, right?”
“They’re probably people with pretty high ranks, too.”
“Got it.”
“There will be non-combatants too. Though they’re probably part of Redfoot.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
With that answer, Reinhardt swiftly jumped off the roof.
Ellie doubted her own eyes.
“He jumped from this height?”
It was a height that seemed to be at least four stories.
But Reinhardt, who landed on the ground, didn’t even make a sound.
He had cleanly absorbed the shock just by rolling forward once.
“Does this even make sense?”
Of course, Ellie could do it too, somehow, if she had to. Though she’d have to be prepared to break a bone somewhere.
But jumping down while wearing such heavy armor was a completely different story.
Ellie once again watched Reinhardt with a dazed expression.
The atmosphere was distinctly different from when he was dealing with the soldiers.
His footsteps were stealthy.
The Redfoot members didn’t seem to have even realized that someone had intruded.
Even more so.
The path Reinhardt was moving along was as if he had a perfect grasp of the members’ placement.
‘How is he moving while avoiding all of them?’
Wasn’t that impossible unless he was looking down from above?
Shing.
Just then, Reinhardt drew his sword.
He moved here and there between the garden, and began to take care of the Redfoot members one by one.
‘This time…… it doesn’t look like he plans to end it with just subduing them. Should I be glad?’
The members fell without even being able to scream properly.
The garden soaked up the blood.
The number of corpses grew one by one, but the mansion remained as quiet as if nothing had happened.
If anything, it was more chaotic outside.
The guards of Romain were moving about frantically, searching for the phantom assailant who would never appear.
It only took a moment for the entire garden to be cleared.
Reinhardt raised his hand high. The meaning of the beckoning gesture was clear.
“I really didn't expect it to turn out like this.”
In any case, Ellie herself had to go down. It seemed Reinhardt was planning to storm into the mansion.
Ellie looked down from the edge of the roof.
She contemplated whether to jump down like Reinhardt, but soon shook her head and went down safely by holding onto the wall.
“You should only copy what you can.”
“Hmm?”
“Never mind. I was just talking to myself.”
After the short conversation, Reinhardt moved again.
The mansion door opened.
Feeling as if she were entering a dungeon, Ellie followed behind Reinhardt.
***
Redfoot’s prestige in Romain was overwhelming.
Of course, its beginning was humble.
It was nothing more than a criminal organization with its headquarters in a back alley.
But now, Redfoot had become a group that even the high-ranking officials of the city hall could not treat lightly.
So much so that even if they committed a crime in the middle of Romain, far from being arrested, the guards would take care of the aftermath for them.
“Why is it so noisy outside?”
Otis, a high-ranking executive of Redfoot, frowned and looked out the window.
Even though it was a dawn that should have been quiet, the street was brightly lit with torches.
Loud shouts and the sound of people rushing could be heard even through the closed window.
“It seems someone has intruded. I have sent a message to the captain of the guard to inform us of the situation.”
“Intrusion? On this street?”
“It seems so. In a short while, more than ten guards were taken down, and they were even wearing armor.”
“What kind of person is he?”
“They must still be in pursuit. He was wearing a robe, so they couldn’t make out his face or the shape of his armor.”
Otis raised one eyebrow and scratched his cheek with his index finger.
“He’s a complete madman. Tell them to bring him to me when he’s caught. It’s not one of our boys, is it?”
“I have told them to check.”
“Never mind. We’ll find out when he’s caught anyway. Let me hear the rest of the report.
What did the Famia Order do?”
“The Order has started to manage a few citizens infected with the plague. Instead of handing them over to the guards, they are observing their progress for a week…….”
The report continued.
The content was something that would normally be exchanged among city hall officials, but both the listener and the speaker had a natural air about them.
“That way, there shouldn't be any problems. No matter how much holy power they pour, it won't change anything. Good.”
Having confirmed it sufficiently, Otis nodded and moved on to the next topic.
“What about Ganesha Edropin?”
“She moved her hideout about two weeks ago, but we have not yet found the location of the new hideout.”
“Hurry it up a bit. Lady Betty is interested. Ganesha Edropin’s condition is a top priority.”
“I will keep that in mind.”
Ganesha Edropin.
She herself probably thought she was hiding well from Redfoot’s eyes, but the reality was different.
They could catch her whenever they wanted.
It was just that Betty Pollard didn’t want to.
To Betty Pollard, Ganesha was like a pet.
She just put her in a glass box and watched.
Of course, Ganesha herself would never know that fact.
“And…… yes, what about the knight who came with that bishop from Truma?”
“He has not moved yet.”
“Has he ever left the Order?”
“We are watching the area around the Order, but he has not shown himself.”
Otis tilted his head in confusion.
When he heard the news that a knight had suddenly visited, he had thought that the Truma Order was preparing something.
But what was this result?
“Then why did that knight fellow come here?”
“We will continue to keep personnel on him.”
“Forget it. Keep a moderate distance. Those Truma guys are picky. If we approach carelessly and get caught, it’ll be a hassle.”
The Truma Order.
Neither persuasion nor threats worked on those who served the Sun God.
If provoked, they might have to deal with fanatics who would gladly rush in to be martyred.
“I will be careful.”
“But, it’s really strange. Was he assigned to protect the bishop? But that guy didn’t look weak enough to need protection.”
Truma, Lubra, Famia.
All three major orders were of interest to Redfoot.
They were aware of not only the changes in personnel but also other variables.
“What about from the city hall’s side?”
“They say they don’t know anything either.”
Of course, this was only possible with the close cooperation of the city hall.
If the mayor of Romain led this city on the surface, Redfoot was the opposite.
Things without justification.
They were the ones who took on and solved matters that were difficult to handle openly.
In return, the city hall also delegated considerable authority to Redfoot.
Whatever they did in this city, unless it was a very serious situation, the mayor was busy turning a blind eye and pretending not to know.
“Wait outside. I’m going to rest for a bit.”
The subordinate bowed deeply and left.
Otis picked up a cigar from the table. He cut the end, put it in his mouth, and lit it.
“No matter how I think about it…….”
Otis took a deep drag of the smoke, then exhaled slowly and muttered.
“It’s too suspicious. So much so that I feel like my head will surely be on the line if I let this slide.”
