Chapter 772: None of Them Are Any Good
With Que De and Ye Tianling working together, the Array didn’t pose much of a challenge.
Soon, the Array was broken, and the two saw another altar, not some special territory.
Seeing an altar again, Que De was obviously stunned for a moment, while Ye Tianling instinctively frowned.
In his eyes, this was no ordinary altar. It was like a bridge connecting different spaces.
Furthermore, this altar also contained Emperor Patterns and carved Runes that formed a Teleportation Array.
This altar was nearly identical to the one Ye Tianling had seen before.
"This altar... I should be able to activate its spatial teleportation. I might be able to use this Array to bring Wan Jimie here. This is the Emperor’s Burial Land of the Emperor Soul Race. It would be better for him if he came."
Que De reasoned.
Ye Tianling mused, "Go ahead and try. But are you sure he won’t beat you to death when he finds out what you’re up to?"
Que De chuckled slyly. "When I bring him here, he’ll be too excited to be anything else."
Saying this, Que De began to connect with the Array.
After a moment’s thought, Ye Tianling withdrew from the female corpse and returned to his own body to face the world.
Since there was no drain on him, Ye Tianling didn’t suffer any of the usual negative side effects.
He combined the different ’perspectives’ of this world from both bodies and began trying to enhance his own body’s Sixth Sense.
Ye Tianling wasn’t worried. He knew that the flow of Time in this land was abnormal. If the War Dragon Academy’s assessment period ended, he wouldn’t be able to remain here; he’d be teleported out instantly. This region would also seal itself off.
Since this hadn’t happened, it meant that enough time hadn’t passed in the outside world for the War Dragon Academy to close the ’seal’.
After waiting for about half a day, Ye Tianling saw Que De’s figure coalesce on the altar once more.
"That old bastard, he was so reluctant."
Que De grumbled indignantly. As soon as he stepped out of the Array on the altar, he began pulling out treasures and setting up some kind of trap.
Ye Tianling understood at a glance. Que De was planning to rob Wan Jimie. He was probably going to knock Wan Jimie out the instant he appeared and then snatch his treasures.
Ye Tianling was left speechless. ’This Que De really is a piece of work.’
Just as Ye Tianling was lost in his thoughts, a blood-red light gathered at the entrance to the Array on the other side, behind Que De. It formed an ancient, illusory figure that instantly solidified into a human shape.
"Que De, long time no see! What are you doing? Welcoming me?"
Wan Jimie laughed heartily and walked towards Que De.
Que De froze. He quickly waved his hand, recalling his treasures. At the same time, he plastered on an expression of overwhelming enthusiasm and began exchanging pleasantries with Wan Jimie.
With equal enthusiasm, Wan Jimie approached Que De and grasped his hand.
Que De activated his Array, intending to suppress Wan Jimie.
But a crackle of lightning-like power suddenly shot from Wan Jimie’s hand. Que De’s entire body went rigid, and he began to convulse.
Taking advantage of the convulsions, Wan Jimie swiped the Qiankun Ring from Que De’s hand. His movements were practiced and fluid—effortlessly clean.
A moment later, Que De recovered from his trembling. With a swift flick of his hand, a string of dark beads on Wan Jimie’s wrist slid into his palm.
Wan Jimie performed a Blood Sacrifice to claim the Qiankun Ring, then swaggered as he slid it onto his own finger.
Meanwhile, Que De slipped the beaded bracelet onto his own wrist and performed a Blood Sacrifice on it as well.
But the moment he performed the Blood Sacrifice, his eyes went wide, and he coughed up a mouthful of blood in exasperation.
"These beads are fake..."
Que De’s face darkened. ’To think that after a lifetime of hunting geese, I’d get my eye pecked out by one.’ He had been completely fooled.
"This Qiankun Ring of yours, however, is the real deal! And there are three treasures inside! HAHA, and your Daoist Celestial Essence Hat! This hat belongs to me now."
Wan Jimie roared with laughter, immensely pleased with himself. With a mere thought, the Daoist Celestial Essence Hat was already on his head.
A vibrant green glow from the hat was particularly conspicuous on the dimly lit altar.
"Damn you! Have you no shame?! If it wasn’t for me, Lord Que, opening this Emperor’s Burial Land, how could you have gotten in? I did it for your inheritance!"
Que De roared in fury.
Wan Jimie just gave a cold, sinister chuckle. "You used my name to peek on some Fairies while they were bathing. Thanks to you, an old man like me gets called a dirty old pervert and hunted everywhere I go. Even a few Saints came after me! I’ve deflected countless kill-shots meant for you. Consider this Daoist Celestial Essence Hat compensation!"
Que De was so furious he could only roll his eyes.
The two continued to bicker, wanting to come to blows but not daring to act too brazenly here. After all, the area was genuinely unnerving.
Ye Tianling was at a complete loss for words.
He had seen enough. ’Neither of these two is a decent person. They’re both utterly despicable and shameless.’
Just as Ye Tianling was thinking this, Wan Jimie approached him with a hearty laugh, raising a hand as if to shake his.
Ye Tianling wasn’t about to fall for that trick.
With a single thought, he transformed back into the female corpse. He extended a hand and said, "Wan Jimie. Long time no see."
At the sight of the outstretched hand, Wan Jimie shuddered violently. He instantly transformed into a streak of Flowing Light and shot toward the Array, clearly intending to flee.
In an instant, Wan Jimie vanished.
A moment later, however, he seemed to have caught on. Wan Jimie materialized from the Array again, staring at Ye Tianling, his expression a sight to behold.
He was on the verge of cursing out loud, but managed to hold it back.
’This Venerable Female Corpse... I really can’t afford to offend her.’
"What are you afraid of?"
Que De said scornfully.
A muscle in Wan Jimie’s cheek twitched. He ignored Que De, his gaze fixed on Ye Tianling’s ’female corpse’ with a mixture of extreme dread and shock.
"You’re pretty bold, Que De."
Ye Tianling offered a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.
"Ahem—actually, I’m a coward. A complete coward."
Que De instantly fell in line.
’How could I dare to act up in front of this female corpse? Her origins are far too terrifying.’
"This is the physical shell of a Venerable, isn’t it? It’s rare to see one with such powerful qi and blood. It lacks its Laws and its Three Souls and Seven Spirits, so it can’t compare to a true Venerable. But it’s still a Venerable’s body. As long as it’s not facing another Venerable, it’s basically Undying and Immortal. Ordinary Sacred or Divine Artifacts can’t even scratch it."
Wan Jimie’s perception was sharp; he had seen right through to the truth.
"Indeed, it is a Venerable Body Shell."
Ye Tianling nodded.
"Impressive. I knew you were special, but I never thought you’d be this incredible. It seems our original plan to look after you once the Buried Soul Star Domain integrates with the Cosmos was completely unnecessary."
Wan Jimie remarked with a sigh.
"I’ll definitely still need your help. When the time comes, I’ll be establishing my own power... but let’s discuss the details then. For now, let’s go check out the Emperor’s Burial Land proper. First, for your inheritance, and second, to see if we can acquire the ’Purgatory Purple Mountain’ treasure."
Ye Tianling said seriously.
This time, Wan Jimie and Que De stopped their bickering. They both grew serious.
