Chapter 225: Rejection
"There is a beast. Much more powerful than any creature we know. My people are being imprisoned by it. I came to ask for your help. As brothers and sisters of the same blood, I hope that you will help me rescue my people." Maisie said.
Richard waved his hand dismissively. "Nonsense! You refused to be under my lead and killed our cattle. Now you make up some fictional creature to hide your crime. Do you think I'm stupid? You will receive no help from me."
The man then stepped off the porch and approached Maisie. The other Wolfmen scattered away, forming a large circle around them.
"I will show you the reason why your father made me the leader, Maisie. And you must be punished accordingly for your crime."
Richard turned into a large wolf.
"Cattle? What are you even talking about?" Maisie was deeply confused.
Richard didn't wait for her to finish. He lunged at Maisie with his mouth open wide.
The girl jumped off to the side and transformed into a wolf of her own.
The two wolves then circled around, sizing each other up and growling deeply.
Carter pretended to be surprised. "This is... They can change into wolf?"
"First time seeing a Wolfman ain't ya?" Leah approached the scrawny nerd. She smiled. Her smell lingered just a bit too close.
"Wolfman... They can control their transformation at will?" Carter said.
Dorothy nodded. "And we are witches. Do you know witches? We are very powerful too?"
"Witches?!" The scrawny young man widened his eyes again.
The two young witches very much enjoyed his reaction while Beatrice covered her face.
The witches must hide their identity to protect themselves. But these two just blatantly said it.
'Sigh. Young people. They are too easy to trust a stranger.'
Beatrice already thought about a certain potion that would make the skinny young man forget everything. She was also thinking about reprehending the two witches when they got back. They needed to know to keep their secrets better.
Richard rushed at Maisie. As the only Alpha left, he was bigger and much faster than Maisie's wolf form.
Maisie was barely able to avoid him.
Richard kept a close distance to her. In the end, he caught up and bit into the shoulder of Maisie's wolf form.
Maisie whimpered and bit back as retaliation. But her bite barely got through his skin.
Richard crushed his jaw then flung Maisie to the side.
The female wolf rolled on the ground pathetically.
Leah and Dorothy covered their mouths. This was none of their business, but they still felt for the small wolf.
'This battle is a little bit unfair. Let me balance it out.'
From within Maisie's shadow, the voice of Satan echoed.
"You are so weak, my child. I shall grant you my power."
Maisie's shadow reached up and wrapped around her. From a plain looking wolf, Maisie became bigger, more monstrous, and became a dark wolf.
Richard howled loudly. He was even more convinced that Maisie was the attacker from last night.
"That thing... That shadow... The Prince of Soul." Beatrice mumbled. Frankenstein had the exact shame shadow. That's why she recognized it. "She has already sold her soul."
Richard rushed at Maisie once more. This time, Maisie didn't back off and lunged at him. She was bigger than him now.
The two wolves collided and Richard was sent flying backwards.
He transformed back into a human. A naked dirty human covered in dirt.
"And you said you didn't do anything?!" Richard screamed loudly. "This is the proof! You are the monster! Everyone! Kill her!"
The other Wolfmen stepped forward and transformed into wolves. They might be weaker than Maisie but their pure number was intimidating enough.
Maisie let out a sad whimper. She dashed away.
'This was a mistake...'
With the help of the shadow, she was very quick and no Wolfmen could catch her. She jumped over the fence and ran into the woods.
"What a coward." Carter said. He was referring to Richard. He saw he couldn't win so he called help right away.
But Richard thought he was talking about Maisie.
"Yeah! See that coward runaway! Don't ever comeback, you hear me!"
The witches understood what Carter was saying but they didn't correct Richard either. It was for the best.
"He really is a pathetic coward." Leah whispered to Dorothy. "Why is he even the leader of the Wolfmen?"
"I know right?" Dorothy whispered back.
"Girls! Watch yourselves!" Beatrice shouted.
Dorothy scratched her head and stuck out a tongue in response. Leah looked down at her feet and played with her fingers.
"I need to follow her." Carter walked to his carriage.
"Wait! Don't go! It's dangerous!" Dorothy said.
"I must. I have a feeling she have the answers I need." Carter shook his head.
Without much hesitation, Carter drove his carriage out of the Lanely Ranch.
"Don't you dare follow him." Beatrice grabbed the ears of the young witches. "It's not like you never saw a man before? Why do you two suddenly have no shame left?"
"Ouch! Ouch! I won't do it again, Trix!" Leah said.
"He is quite charming actually." Dorothy shamelessly said.
Richard watched as Carter left. He didn't intervene. In his heart, he knew that Maisie was telling the truth. But Richard couldn't admit that in front of his tribesmen.
'That guy keeps interfere me and the witches. Good riddance! I hope he dies.' Richard thought to himself.
Carter followed Maisie's footprints. With John Collins's power, he was confidence to take care of whatever this Beast of Gabali was. If he accomplished this, John would gain the approval of the successor of the Farrow Alpha and in turn, gain the loyalty of the Farrow.
'Dracula has his vampires. Satan has his followers. Frankenstein with the Superhumans. Maybe John could have the Wolfman tribe?'
Maisie ran far. She was going to the opposite direction of where the last Beast of Gabali was. Carter didn't need to find her as he could locate her by the shadow beneath her.
The day passed and dusk fell. Carter stopped to let the horses rest.
He put up a campfire to warm himself as a shadow approaching him from behind. It had come dangerously close as it reached its hand at him.
