Chapter 57- The Infestation (Part 2)
Chapter 57- The Infestation (Part 2)
"Ah... Ah... Ah..." Teo’s voice cracked as he tried to word something. He couldn’t even find the words to say. The sight had simply robbed him of his ability to think. The sheer fear he felt at that moment completely paralyzed his limbs.
However, with some mysterious power, Teo was able to turn around and yell. "We are in danger!! We are being attacked! Mr X!!! Wake up!" He yelled.
His voice shook everyone awake as they opened their eyes, confused.
"Huh? What’s happening?"
"Mmmm, why is Teo yelling?"
The first to react was Rein, whose eyes shot open as he quickly stood up and rushed to the other room, followed by Alex and Violet.
"What is happening, Teo?" He asked as he looked around the room, trying to search for any threat. However, there was none. Instead, the man shakingly pointed at the window with a pale face.
Rein quickly rushed to the window and stared outside. Immediately, his eyes widened in shock as a dark expression appeared on his face.
"You... have got to be kidding me." He clenched his teeth. "Get everyone awake, now! We need to get out of here immediately!" Rein yelled to Violet.
"What is happening?" Alex asked as he pushed Rein aside and looked outside... That was when he saw it.
In the far distance, moving through the darkness were countless creatures... Tens of thousands or even millions of them... Waves and waves of these creatures that he quickly recognized as...
"Spiders!" He muttered. ’Those things look like the ones we saw last night!’
The spiders all looked the same size or close, with their disfiguring limbs moving through the ruined city and making cracking sounds as if they were walking on broken glass. Yet, there were also eerily quiet for an army that size, sending chills down Alex’s back.
"We can’t stay here... We can’t stay here at all. They will reach us in a few minutes." He muttered as he turned around and rushed to the door. The rest of the group was already awake and trying to gather all the stuff they could gather.
"Leave anything we won’t need! We can’t waste any time!" Rein said as he picked up his bag and looked at Violet. "You and your family start moving ahead. Head up north, toward Virgona. Alex and I will try to slow them down as much as we can before coming after you."
"I want to-"
"No, you need to stay with your family and protect them. We will be right behind you. Now, go!" Rein yelled as he summoned his sword. "Alex, follow me."
The man nodded at him and summoned his bow and arrows as he rushed after him.
"You heard him, Mom, Dad. We need to leave immediately." Violet swallowed her frustration. As much as she wanted to remain behind to help Rein, she knew that her family needed her to remain with them. She was their protector and the strongest one.
With that, Violet and her family rushed out of the building. They could see the waves of spiders in the distance, and the sight alone made their hearts leap out of their chests. No nightmare could truly encapsulate the sheer dread that sight brought upon them.
"Let’s move! We can’t look behind us!"
Rein and Alex left after them and made sure the group could move safely for a good distance before they looked at the waves of spiders.
"Tsk, to think I have to fight with you..." Alex said coldly.
"Beggars can’t be choosers. You better not put yourself in a problem because I won’t be saving you." Rein channeled his energy as he focused on the horde. "You have my back. Make sure to aim well."
*Swish*
Then, he dashed forward.
"Tsk, don’t tell me what to do, bastard." Alex cursed as he looked around before he chose a good spot where he could snipe the spiders.
Rein closed the distance with the monsters rapidly. His speed had increased even more than before, and he could feel it. It didn’t take him long to reach his targets. There was an unfathomable number of them.
’When did all these bastards breed? Their numbers are ridiculous!’ He clenched his teeth. ’I had a bad feeling about seeing more than one... But I didn’t think their numbers had increased this much.’
Spiders are naturally very fast when it comes to breeding, and because of the mutations, that number increased so much.
The spiders spotted him and were naturally drawn toward him. Brandishing his sword, Rein sliced with it, charging it as much as he could.
His blade cut through several monsters in one second. His strength, which was now above and beyond what it was before, showed the results.
[You have slain a Level 5 Black House Spider.]
[You have slain a Level 6 Black House Spider.]
[You have slain a Level 4 Black House Spider.]
Then, without wasting another moment, he sliced again, killing several more. Since they were all considerably weaker than him, they couldn’t move as fast as he could. Anyone who got close would end up getting sliced into pieces in a second.
At the same time, arrows formed around Rein’s head that shot in every direction, hitting their targets with immense precision. Like a ghost, Rein dashed across the front line, killing anything that crossed his path.
At the same time, from a distance, arrows flew toward him at incredible speeds. From a distance, Alex was a lethal sniper, targeting any spider he could see. His arrows were charged with essence, so each one had an immense destructive force.
*BOOOOM*
Upon impact, they would explode violently, killing several in the surrounding area. He didn’t stop shooting the arrows.
The spiders were all naturally drawn toward Rein and started surrounding him from the sides to trap him. However, Rein was aware of that and shifted his approach as he started retreating fast while killing spiders.
His speed was immense, so they couldn’t really keep up with him.
’Yeah, follow me. If I can pull them far enough, we can escape.’ He thought to himself.
Unbeknownst to him... This horde of spiders was about to be the least of his worries.
