Transmigrated To A Beastworld As The Lazy Wife Of The Fox Lord

Chapter 97: Ali’s lessons.

In the evening, Sienna decided that an early dinner would be good for everyone. The report Elias had ordered for had arrived, and the declaration was as she expected: the vegetables and fruits were safe for consumption.

So, after planting the tomatoes, Sienna decided to stir fry some beef with cabbage. She also had the servants roast thirty chicken and potatoes. Her mother added rice to the menu because she thought the meal was too dry.

After dinner, the outdoor hologram showed a movie which only Sienna’s family stuck around for. Most of the servants retired for the night. Some went out for personal business and others relaxed at the beach.

Mija remained back, sulking so much that her mouth swelled. It was like she wanted Sienna to notice that she was unhappy, but Sienna didn’t care. She was busy chopping some cabbage leaves into small pieces for the chicken.

Whatever she finished chopping, her mother chopped again and then grandma Byra after. Everything then went on top of the table, far away from Ali’s curious hands.

In fact, grandpa Corven was keeping the little girl occupied with a game.

"This was the most delicious cabbage I have ever eaten." Mrs. Miller declared. "If I get used to it, I don’t think I will be able to ever eat normal ones again."

Aunt Linera agreed with a smile, "I bit my tongue because I was enjoying dinner. Now Daren has a shameful story about me to pass on to future generations."

The women laughed.

"Do you think the tomato seeds will also grow to be so big?" Grandma Byra asked.

Sienna joked, "I am the favorite of the Beast gods, of course it will be giant sized. Maybe the size of my head. No...my head is small. Who has the biggest head here?"

Again, everyone laughed.

Soren looked at the chopped cabbage with sad eyes. "It is a pity that we are using them to feed chicken. I could eat them forever. Sis, do you have more seeds?"

Elias craned his neck, suddenly interested in the answer. She did not know it yet, but half of her harvested strawberries had already made their way to the wine factory of the fox tribe. Already, he could see all the ways in which her giant fruits could be used to enrich the tribe and their family. Under their rule, the fox tribe would be at their strongest. They would be the richest tribe on the continent.

Grandpa Corven threw a strawberry core at Soren. "Stop being greedy, do you think such seeds are sold by the dozen? Your sister was lucky to get a hands on a few. Enjoy this blessing while you still can and thank the Falcon god."

Sienna turned her head in the direction of the old man. "Why does it have to be a Falcon god?"

"Because you are descended from Falcon beast men." The old man replied surely. "Who else would you thank?"

"The Fox god." Eli muttered.

Sienna snorted. "So let me guess this straight, every beast tribe has its own Beast god!"

Everyone nodded.

"And a priest." Ali shared knowledgeably, with a voice that declared that she knew everything about it. And she did, because she went on to say with a finger jutting outward, "Mama, you have never met the priest of our tribe but you should, because you are my mama."

Elias raised his brows. Shouldn’t it be because Sienna was the Lady of the Fox tribe?

Ali leaped onto the table and straightened her back, like Mrs. Abernathy did during her classes. Her voice was sweet and crisp as she explained, "The priest is the voice of the Fox god. Evey ceremony in the tribe passes through his hands. For example---" She ticked off her fingers, "When babies are born."

"Birth rites." Eli chimed in with the proper term.

Ali glared at her brother before quickly picking up where she had been, "When a cub is born, the priest spits on it."

Some people chuckled.

Eli rolled his eyes. "The priest doesn’t spit on the cub, he blesses it with foxfire so its spirit won’t wonder. Without that the cub might grow up restless, always chasing shadows."

Sienna’s eyes widened. Eli was surprisingly eloquent for a child his age. He was taking his education quite seriously, unlike his restless sister Ali. She wondered if her daughter had missed the spit blessing, as she called it.

Ali ignored the interruption. "The priest also does the tying ceremony."

"Bonding ceremony." Eli corrected.

The dynamic between the two siblings made everyone laughed.

Ali ignored the interruption. "When two beast men get married, the priest calls the Fox god to tie their spirits together."

Sienna whistled. "Wow, the priest sounds very important."

"Exactly, the little girl said, pleased. "And when we celebrate the first day of the harvest festival, the priest makes the offering of the first hunt to the fox god. If it is doesn’t smell nice, the priest makes the hunters go back and hunt again until the god is satisfied."

Eli said dryly, "It is not about the smell Ali, it is about worthiness. What is your governess teaching you?"

Ali stomped her foot. "This is my story not yours."

Sienna laughed outright. "You are doing a great job Ali boo. Tell me more."

Eli responded with a "tch!," while Ali went on with her story, as she called it. "If people fight, they can go to the priest. He gives them a spanking, and they shake hands."

Even Elias laughed at that. His daughter had officially entered the realm of fiction.

Sienna on the other hand leaned back, "So, he is a judge, jury, executioner and peace maker. Those are too many jobs for one man."

Ali nodded sagely. "He works as hard as daddy. And on the night of Tails, he leads the entire tribe in prayer. Then we throw lanterns shaped like tails in the sky or river. The fox god counts the lanterns and decides how much money to give us."

Sienna’s expression softened, though she could tell there were a few holes in Ali’s story. "That sound beautiful."

Ali’s voice grew quieter, a whisper, almost. "But, if the priest is a bad fox, the fox god takes away his blessing. Crops fails, cubs get sick, mental and physical strength goes away. That is why the priest is important." She looked at Sienna, with what could only be a solemn gaze. "Have you learned mama?"
