Chapter 376: Save me.
Leilani.
I had no other place to go and knowing that I would probably rot and die if I do not think of anything fast enough, I decided to go to the one place I would’ve never ever thought about going to if I wasn’t so desperate.
The triplets’ mansion.
My hands shook as I walked up to the parked cab which had just been alighted by a beautiful woman. I slowly lowered my head and with a trembling voice which was all part of the act, I muttered; "Good day sir!"
The cab driver lifted his head slowly to meet my eyes and goddess, I almost let out a breath of relief when I saw the warmth in his gaze.
He drawled; "Good day. Where do you want to go?"
Something about his voice made me feel warm, but brushing it off, I quickly gave him the address to the triplets’ home.
"Come on in then!" He exclaimed.
But I didn’t immediately do as told. Instead, I inched closer, lowered my head even more so that we may be on the same eye level and said softly; "But sir, I do not have any money with me."
He frowned slightly.
"But when we get there, I’ll make my friend pay the bill. He is rich."
The man looked like he didn’t fully believe me, but for some reason, he didn’t push it. He simply muttered something under his breath which I didn’t catch and then leaned over to open the door, his voice less enthusiastic as he said;
"Okay cherè! No problem."
The ride to the triplets’ mansion was a quiet and awkward one, and while I spent most of my time counting all the people along the road that I saw wearing the color red— mostly just to pass time— he was busy watching me as if scared that I would jump him.
We arrived at the all too familiar gates a few minutes later but then suddenly stopped when the security guards made him stop. He turned to me.
"The house is guarded?"
I nodded once, smiled softly and whispered; "Wait here please."
"But what about my money?" He sounded desperate, almost annoyed even.
I waved in his direction as I got off the car, muttering "I’ll get you your money," as I went.
In response, he honked at me but I didn’t turn around to regard him. I didn’t even cast him another glance as I walked up to the security manning the gate and said;
"Please, I am here to see the three Alphas. Tell them that it is about Ms Leilani."
At the mention of my name, their gazes softened and then they rolled the large gates open, as if silently asking the driver to drive in.
I saw the way his eyes widened when that happened. I saw the stubborn— almost disbelieving— set of his chin when I got back into his car. He didn’t say another word to me as we drove through the large gates, and still didn’t even when I stepped out of his car this time to walk up to...
Shit, Caelum... who was waiting by the door with his eyes thinned into fierce slits and his large arms crossed over his chest.
I slowly made my way over to Caelum who for some reason was glaring at me as if ready to pounce; And when I arrived about a few metres away from him, I let my hoodie fall, ignoring the shocked look on his face as I drawled;
"Please do you have a hundred dollar note?"
—
Caelum.
"Please do you have a hundred dollar note?"
Never in all the times that I have imagined seeing Leilani— and I have imagined that a lot— did I expect those words to be the first words she would say to me after so long... and after everything.
I have wished and prayed for so long to finally see her, but for some reason right now, now that I was finally having what I have always wished for, I was hyperventilating. I was about to pass out and maybe implode until I turned into a tomato paste or something of that nature.
My breath hitched as I stumbled close to her— so close that her familiar yet intoxicating scent filled my nostrils— and with my hands outstretched, I glided a finger over her chin, then another, my heart beating in both surprise and glee, as I whispered; "Is this really you?"
For a moment, a flicker of something akin to sadness fleeted across her eyes before it was quickly gone. She nodded. "Yes, it is me."
"How?" I rushed out, "Why? What the fuck happened?"
And maybe for now, those questions were too much because she then rolled her eyes at me, her voice slightly edgy as she rushed out; "Please, the hundred dollar note."
That snapped me back to reality. I rasped; "What do you need it for?"
At the sound of my voice, she flinched slightly before pointing to the man behind her. "I need to pay for my cab fare." She answered softly, and it wasn’t until then that I noticed the impatient driver behind her.
The man shuddered when my eyes met his and he looked away, almost trembling as I walked over to him. But I wasn’t there to intimidate him. Hell, I do not even give a shit about him besides the fact that he was the one to bring my Leilani back to me.
So with this thought in mind, I dipped my hands into my pocket, and coming up with about six hundred dollars in a hundred dollar denominations, I shoved them into his hands and walked off, ignoring the way he gasped in surprise before showering praises at me and her.
But right now, he was the least of my concerns.
Hell, I couldn’t even begin to fathom the amount of glee I felt at the thought of... at the idea that Leilani was now standing right in front of me! Hale and hearty!
But kind of dirty and haggard looking anyway.
—Not like it mattered.
I said softly; "Please come with me. Let’s go inside the house. I think you would need a change of clothes and—"
"A place to stay for now... please." She butted in, interrupting me. "I wanted to ask if you and your brothers could allow me to stay here for a while... at least until I find somewhere more permanent that I can move into."
Her words, so carelessly said, made my entire world stop for a minute.
It made my heart jump right out of my chest only to hop back in with so much force, it nearly knocked out my breath.
A smile I tried so hard to control spread across my face as I turned to face her, and I didn’t even need to think about it before I said the words;
"Yes. Yes, you can! You should totally stay here!"
And before she would have a chance of heart, I began to pull her into the house, shivering slightly at the way my body immediately came alive as soon as our skins touched.
Oh goddess, save me from this woman.
