Fated To Three, Betrayed By All… Until She Rose.

Chapter 373: Another Valemont.

Leilani.

Whatever trust I had in the man disappeared into the wind as soon as he asked me that question.

Why?

Because it was obvious now that he knew me, and that all his pathetic attempts at appearing aloof yet nice was only a front. It was also obvious that he was only being kind to me because of the fact that he knows me! And that in itself was enough to have my blood boiling with rage.

Usually, I would’ve responded to him, especially since he has been my protector since last night; But for some reason, I couldn’t bring myself to speak. I couldn’t even bring myself to look at him as I turned away and lowered my head slightly.

"Do you know him as well?" He snapped at me, pulling me out to my reverie, and so help me goddess, this time, I couldn’t stop myself from rolling my eyes.

I do not even know why but at this moment, all I wanted was to be as far away from him as possible because my trust issues were already spiking high up into the heavens; But pushing those thoughts away, I cleared my throat and turned back to face him.

"No. Not personally." I hissed under my breath, the lie tasting like bile on my tongue. "I work in the next building."

"Oh." He sounded surprised— not like I care. "Well, I guess this is the part where we say our goodbyes."

Again, I wanted to roll my eyes at him but I didn’t because for some strange reasons, even now, my body still felt calm around him.

Still numb.

Still beautifully warm.

So I nodded. "Yes, once again, thank you Sir."

His eyes flashed then with a kind of knowing look, but beneath all the warmth and charm, I couldn’t help but feel his power, his aura and strength sizzling just beneath the surface, waiting to break out.

He was not a human.

Not a werewolf.

Probably a Lycan.

And to top it all... something about the cold calm surrounding him gave me the impression that he was stronger than Darius, stronger than most, and maybe even stronger than me.

"I should get going!" I rushed out, and with that, I began to walk away, ignoring the way his eyes drilled into my back like a thousand lasers all at once.

My heart raced so much, I feared I would pass out from all the panic. But I didn’t. Instead, I surged on, got into the next building which was a luxurious shopping complex— that I had pretended was my place of work, and I didn’t turn around to look in his direction until I was well past the double glass doors leading into the complex.

With my heart in my mouth, and I mean it quite literally, I then stumbled into one of the chairs at the reception area, watching his shiny convoy parked in front of Frostclaw. Inc and him until a few minutes later when a young woman suddenly approached me.

She hissed condescendingly. "Who are you?"

I stilled.

"What gave you the effrontery to think that you can come in here and sit at the VIP area?"

At the sound of her shrill voice, my heart jumped and I found myself leaping to my feet even before I knew what I was doing.

"I am sorry," I rushed out, "I was just waiting for..."

"For someone dressed in rags like you, you would wait at the back, not here!" She hissed, and it wasn’t until that moment that I realized that I looked hideous.

Fine, the clothes that the Good Samaritan had gotten me were of premium quality, but the hideous hoodie on top, shielding my eyes was literally borrowed from the cleaning girl.

I shook in embarrassment and was that rage as I let my eyes rove the lady’s body from her head to her fake Louboutins and then I hissed; "I’m leaving."

However, just then, I caught the sight of the Good Samaritan finally alighting from his Brabus G-Wagon, so pushing the woman to the side, I made for the door.

I also watched him closely as his sharp eyes darted around the area, but because I knew that he couldn’t see me even though I could see him— the glass was tinted— I didn’t panic, and waited until he had stepped into the building before stepping out of the complex.

My heart skipped a beat.

With my heart pounding against my chest like a freaking bird in a cage, I sneaked into one of the back doors meant only for the cleaning staff of Frostclaw. Inc and began to snake my way into the building through the back stairs, avoiding all the staff I could until I arrived at the top floor.

But by this time, I was a panting mess. I was sweaty and dehydrated and my heart was racing so damn much, I almost fainted.

Moving slowly and quietly, I made my way to Jarek’s office only to pause in my tracks when I noticed that the door to his office was slightly ajar, and from this far off, I watched him, sitting, while the Good Samaritan stood in front of his table, waiting to be asked to sit.

A couple of tense minutes went by before Jarek finally lifted his head from the paperwork in front of him and then he glanced at the man just once before visibly shuddering.

He was that intimidating!

"I have seen what you have for me and I am interested, Mr..." Jay let his voice trail off respectfully as if to give the man an opportunity to say his name or introduce himself.

And to my utmost dismay, the man smiled in that soft way he always does— from what I can tell— and then sat down even without being asked to. He drawled in that cool baritone that managed to wash over me in tidal waves. He said;

"Mr Valemont. I am Mr Valemont."

And ladies and gentlemen, as soon as I heard those words, my heart did a flip in my chest. My entire world stopped too in that second, and I found myself unable to breathe, speak or even move.

I just stood rooted in place.
