Chapter 367: Greedy fool.
Leilani.
For what felt like an eternity, I was locked up in that cold damp and dark room with nowhere to go and no one to help me out of this mess.
My heart raced whenever I thought about Keisha and the things she could do to me if she ever comes back. But that wasn’t the only thing I thought or worried about. That wasn’t the only thing that kept me awake all through the night, thinking about ways to escape this nightmarish situation.
The thing I worried about the most was my wolf- slash- Lycan who has been quiet for a while too long now. I also wondered if Keisha’s words were true and if indeed the Moonveil draught could possibly stop me from connecting with my wolf even though I was fully mated to the triplets now.
These thoughts made my heart race with appreciation, an apprehension that soon turned into full blown fear when I heard the sound of the door creaking open in the distance, followed by that of loud footsteps that resonated around the quiet space as it approached me.
The lights soon flickered on and I flinched when the bright white light attacked my sore eyes.
Usually, I would’ve rubbed my eyes in a situation like this, but my hands were still clasped behind my back with metal chains.
They bit into my flesh whenever I moved, causing blisters so I whispered; "My arms and wrists are sore."
But the burly man in front of me didn’t seem to care. He didn’t even respond to my statement as he spat instead; "Your breakfast is here."
Breakfast.
Lol breakfast.
His words made my eyes snap in his direction and I couldn’t help but eye him with suspicion before looking away to glare at the tray of a mushy looking substance that looked like algae.
The mere look of the food had bile rising in my throat and I hissed; "I am not a herbivore."
He snorted. "No one said you were, little wolf."
The sarcasm in his voice made me mad. It made me want to bash his head into the metallic barricades behind him; But knowing that in this situation, I was the one on the losing side, I clamped my lips together and shook my head.
"I don’t want it."
"You would need it." He hissed and with that, pushed the tray into my line of sight. "You are weak. I was even nice enough to make the food slightly more than what she asked us to feed you." He said slowly; But as soon as I saw every other meal on the so-called tray, I immediately began to feel nauseous.
Why?
Because the greenish porridge-like food was not the only disgusting thing on it. There was also a piece of sandwich that looked like it had seen better days. Beside that was a plate of cold disgusting looking canned beans, and then to the side was a glass of water— a glass of water that from here, I could see was impure.
I shuddered. "Thank you."
Usually, I would ask him to take these disgusting things away but because I needed to find a way out of here, I went on my knees, crouched low in front of the plate and mumbled;
"I can’t eat with my hands behind my back."
"Lady Keisha asked us to make you eat like a dog." He answered coldly, a tinge of jest lacing his voice. But beneath it was something else... something that sounded like discomfort.
Something about the way he said those words made me impossibly mad but I didn’t miss the twitch in his eyebrows. So I turned away from him to look at the food before scrunching up my nose. And then I feigned all the innocence I could into my voice as I drawled; "I cannot. You need to help me please."
"No madam, I cannot." He began to say, but from the way his voice trembled slightly, I immediately knew that he would be easy to fool.
He was a weakling and right now, people like him were what I needed.
So I pressed further; "Please... My body hurts terribly. I would only eat and then be a good girl while you chain me back up."
"Lady Keisha says that you’re not to be trusted." He hissed like someone saying a crammed recitation, turning around to walk away. But I was not done with him and I was desperate.
My desperation however, was what pushed me into screaming just as he turned away, my voice hoarse as I rasped; "Wait!"
He stopped abruptly and then turned to me with a frown. "What?"
"Please help me. I’ll help you with anything you need."
At my words, he threw his head back and chuckled loudly, his mocking laughter echoing through the space before she dragged in a deep breath.
"I need about fifty thousand dollars to leave NYC and start a new life someplace else."
I didn’t blink. I didn’t even stutter. "I will give you sixty. Fifty for moving to someplace else and ten for helping me."
His eyes widened as soon as I said that and with a small voice, he drawled; "you’re lying."
"I am not. Ask about me. My name is Leilani Sinclair and that money isn’t a problem for me."
I saw the moment my words began to take root in his head, saw the moment hesitation flickered in his gaze. But that wasn’t all. There was also greed... so much greed it was sickening to look at.
He stumbled closer, so close that I could perceive the foul stench on his breath and then he whispered; "Are you sure?"
"Yes I am. Try me." I answered with so much courage, I stunned even myself.
He gulped. "You will give me sixty thousand dollars instead of fifty?"
I nodded. "I will make it seventy if you waste no more time and unclasp me."
And as soon as I said that, he smiled brightly before licking his teeth, his eyes gleaming with excitement as he drawled; "Okay then, stay still."
And still I stayed, watching him as he produced a key from his back pocket and began to work on the clasps around my hand.
My heart raced as the seconds stretched into minutes, and after what felt like an eternity, the metal clasps fell to the floor with a loud clang, freeing me from the bondage that I had been forced into by Keisha.
"Thank you," I whispered to the greedy fool, and when he turned to me as if to acknowledge me, I forced all the strength I could muster into my fist and smacked his face so hard, he blacked instantly out.
When he fell to the floor with a thud, I crouched down to clasp his own hands behind his back and then I hissed under my breath; "This is why your lady Keisha asked you not to trust me."
And with that, I walked out of the cell, leaving him passed out cold on the floor of the cell that used to be mine.
