Chapter 215 He Is Not Different
SOPHIA’S POV
The hospital room felt too quiet after Zade left.
I sat against the bed with the blanket wrapped tightly around my body while the sound of the rain outside echoed softly against the glass windows.
My fever had gone down a little, but my body still felt weak and heavy. Every part of me ached from exhaustion, especially my chest.
It felt like too many emotions had been pressed into my heart at once, making it hard to breathe properly.
The room still carried Zade’s scent.
Even after he walked out, I could still feel his presence. My wolf still held on to his scent because it calmed her. I hated how comforting it felt. I hated how quickly I’d grown used to him staying beside me.
I slowly touched the blanket he had adjusted for me earlier.
My thoughts became messy again.
Zade had been so gentle tonight. He had carried me carefully, dried my hair, soaked my feet, and looked after me like I truly mattered. Nobody had ever taken care of me with that much patience before, not Damien. Not anyone.
Yet the more Zade cared for me, the more afraid I became. Because I knew what disappointment felt like.
I knew what betrayal felt like. I once believed Damien would protect me forever too.
I slowly pulled the blanket closer around myself before turning toward the window absentmindedly.
That was when my breathing suddenly stopped.
Downstairs in the hospital garden, near the fountain, I saw two familiar figures standing together.
Zade.....and Tiffany.
My fingers tightened instantly around the blanket.
From my angle near the hallway window, they looked extremely close. Tiffany stood directly in front of him while Zade leaned slightly toward her. The distance between them was almost nonexistent.
Then Tiffany suddenly lifted her hand and touched his arm softly.
My heart clenched painfully.
I stared at them without blinking.
The cold wind outside moved Tiffany’s hair gently while Zade stood there looking down at her. The shadows around them blurred their movements slightly, but from where I stood...it looked like they kissed.
I gasped in horror.
Everything inside me instantly went cold. The warmth that Zade had spent the entire night giving me disappeared completely in one second.
I froze beside the window while my chest tightened painfully.
So, this was it? This was reality.
I almost laughed at myself.
How stupid. How unbelievably stupid of me.
I had actually started believing him.
I had started believing that maybe Zade was different from Damien, that maybe he truly cared about me, maybe his feelings were real.
But now? I suddenly felt ridiculous.
Tiffany was beautiful, elegant, charming, and born from a respected wolf family. Men always chased after women like her. Even powerful Alphas and dominant wolves couldn’t resist someone like Tiffany.
So why would Zade be different?
Why would someone as powerful as him choose me completely?
I lowered my eyes slowly as pain spread through my chest.
Maybe I had misunderstood everything. Maybe I had only been another temporary interest to him. Maybe this was all just a game.
My wolf whimpered weakly inside me.
Tears slowly gathered in my eyes, but I quickly wiped them away angrily.
“No,” I whispered to myself shakily. “Don’t cry again.”
I was tired of crying. I was tired of feeling pathetic. I was tired of giving people the power to hurt me.
I stepped away from the window slowly and returned to the bed. My body suddenly felt colder than before, even with the blanket wrapped around me. The warmth Zade had left behind earlier now felt fake.
Every memory from tonight replayed painfully in my head.
I thought of him feeding me, him carrying me, him saying he wanted to stay beside me forever.
All of it suddenly felt meaningless.
I curled up under the blanket while trying to calm my breathing.
Maybe this was better. Maybe I should stop believing in people altogether.
A few minutes later, the door finally opened softly.
I didn’t look up immediately, but I could smell him. That familiar scent entered the room again instantly.
Only now.....there was another scent mixed with it - perfume. It was a sweet floral perfume that definitely didn’t belong to me. The scent was familiar. I’d smelled it too many times on Damien.
Tiffany’s perfume.
Zade walked toward the bed quietly.
“Why are you awake?” he asked softly.
I kept my eyes lowered. “Couldn’t sleep.”
He moved closer immediately. “Your fever hasn’t gone up again, has it?”
His hand reached toward my forehead gently. I pulled away.
The movement made him pause.
For a moment, silence filled the room completely.
Then he frowned slightly. “Sophia?”
“I’m fine,” I replied quietly.
Zade studied my face carefully.
His wolf immediately sensed something was wrong.
He sat down beside the bed. “Did something happen while I was gone?”
“No.”
“I told you,” he said calmly, “I just went to handle some work.”
I finally looked at him.
Our eyes met directly for the first time since he returned.
And for the first time tonight, I saw panic inside his eyes, because he realized I didn’t believe him.
“Work?” I repeated softly.
Zade nodded “Yes.”
I stared at him silently for several seconds. Then I laughed quietly, ut there was no happiness in it. there was only disappointment.
“You’re a terrible liar,” I said.
Zade’s expression changed “What do you mean?”
I looked away from him again.
“The perfume on you is too strong,” I said coldly.
The room instantly became silent again. I could almost feel the tension in the air now.
Zade froze beside me.
For the first time since meeting him, I saw him look genuinely caught off guard.
His wolf probably never expected me to notice something like that so quickly but I did.
Because when a woman had spent years being hurt by the same man, she learned to notice every small detail - every scent, every lie, every change in expression.
“You don’t need to explain,” I said quietly. “You’re free to see whoever you want.”
“Sophia-”
“But stop treating me like I’m stupid.”
“It’s not what you think.”
I looked at him again “Then tell me what I should think.”
His lips parted slightly before closing again. For once, Zade did not answer immediately, and that silence hurt more than anything.
I laughed bitterly again and looked away.
“Forget it,” I whispered.
Zade moved closer immediately. “Sophia, listen to me.”
“No.”
My voice came out colder this time.
I shifted farther away from him on the bed, creating distance between us.
The movement made pain flash across his face instantly. His wolf hated it. I could see it clearly in his eyes.
But my heart already felt numb.
“You said you were different,” I whispered quietly. “You said you weren’t like Damien.”
“I am different.”
“Really?” I looked at him coldly. “Then why do I suddenly feel exactly the same?”
Zade immediately grabbed my wrist gently. “Because you misunderstood what you saw.”
I stared at his hand touching mine before slowly pulling away again.
“I don’t want to hear it.”
“Sophia-”
“I’m tired,” I interrupted quietly.
I turned away from him completely and lay down facing the other side of the bed.
My chest hurt badly, not because I loved Zade already, but because I had allowed myself to trust him a little.
And now I regretted it.
