Piss Off, Alpha! You Lost Me Forever

Chapter 196 A Fortune Telling

SOPHIA’S POV

The night still felt peaceful around me as we walked away from the riverside, but something inside me had changed.

I didn’t feel as calm as I did. I remembered everything that happened a few minutes ago - Damien’s cold words, the way he looked at me, and the presence of Tiffany beside him. Everything had stirred something I thought I had already buried. I tried not to think about it, but it kept moving in my mind.

Zade walked beside me without speaking. He didn’t ask what I was thinking, and I was grateful for that. I didn’t even know how to explain what I was feeling. My mind felt crowded, but at the same time, strangely empty.

We moved deeper into the night market again, where the lights were warmer. Here, the sounds of people returned around us. My wolf picked up sounds of laughter, soft conversations, and the occasional call of a vendor.

It felt alive, almost too alive compared to how heavy my chest felt.

“Are you tired?” Zade asked suddenly.

I shook my head “Not really,”.

He didn’t say anything else. Instead, he slowed down his steps, as if giving me more time to take everything in. I appreciated that, even if I didn’t say it out loud.

We stopped at another stall. It displayed small pieces of jewelry. The owner had lovely things.

Rings, bracelets, and necklaces were laid out neatly under a lantern. I looked at them all until one piece caught my attention.

It was a necklace. It was so beautiful with a small pendant that reflected the light gently. It wasn’t flashy or overly detailed, but there was something about it that felt... right.

I didn’t realize I had been staring at it until Zade picked it up.

“You like this one,” he said.

It wasn’t a question.

I looked at him quickly, then back at the necklace.

“It’s just... nice,” I said, trying to sound casual.

“That means you like it,” he replied calmly.

Before I could say anything else, he turned to the vendor. “We’ll take it.”

I frowned

“No, wait. Zade, you don’t have to buy it,” I said quickly.

He ignored me. He didn’t say anything, even as I kept telling him not to bother. A moment later, he had paid for it and the necklace was already in his hand.

I looked at it in shock. Zade always seemed to notice the things I liked. It showed he was paying attention.

“Turn around,” he said.

I blinked. “What?”

“Turn around,” he repeated.

I stared at him for a second, then shook my head.

“No,” I said firmly. “I’m not taking it.”

Zade didn’t argue. Instead, he looked at the necklace for a moment, then lifted it as if considering something.

“Fine,” he said.

Before I could react, he turned his hand and made a motion as if he was about to throw it away.

“Zade!” I exclaimed, stepping forward “What are you doing?”

“If you don’t want it, then there’s no point keeping it,” he said calmly. His hand was still raised. mid-air.

My eyes went wide with shock “Are you serious right now?”

He didn’t respond.

My chest tightened slightly. I knew he could actually do it. There was no hesitation in him, no second thoughts. Besides, the money was nothing to him.

“Wait,” I said quickly. I reached out and grabbed his wrist before he could move “Don’t throw it.”

He looked at me. “Then take it.”

I hesitated.

This felt like a trap, and I knew it. I didn’t want any more gifts from him. I’d made that perfectly clear a while ago. But the thought of him throwing it away bothered me more than I expected.

“...Fine,” I muttered quietly.

Zade’s hand lowered immediately.

Without another word, he stepped closer and gently moved behind me. I felt my body stiffen slightly as his presence came closer. His fingers brushed against my neck as he placed the necklace around me.

His touch made my breath catch. My heart rate got faster.

“There,” he said softly.

I didn’t turn around immediately. I just stood there, feeling the necklace resting against my skin.

When I finally turned to face him, I avoided his eyes for a moment.

“You didn’t have to do that,” I said quietly.

“I wanted to,” he replied simply.

I didn’t argue again.

We started walking again but this time, it felt different. There was something new in the air, something I didn’t understand.

As we moved through the market, an older woman suddenly stepped in front of us.

“Wait,” she said.

I paused, flinching in shock. Why did she stop us?

She was a fortune-teller, sitting beside a small table covered with cards, beads, and other objects I didn’t recognize. A lantern lit her face.

“I can see your future,” she said, looking directly at me.

I almost smiled at that. Most of these fortune tellers were scam artists, I wouldn’t fall for this,

“No, thank you,” I replied politely, ready to walk past her.

But before I could move, Zade spoke.

“Let her try,” he said.

I turned to look at him, feeling confused. I didn’t take Zade for the type to listen to fortune tellers.

“You believe in this?” I asked.

He shrugged “It’s harmless.”

I hesitated.

Part of me wanted to refuse. It felt unnecessary, and I wasn’t in the mood for games. But something in the woman’s eyes made me pause. She wasn’t smiling or trying to convince me. She just watched me quietly.

“...Fine,” I said finally.

The fortune-teller gestured for me to sit. I did, though I still felt unsure.

She took my hand gently. Her eyes moved over my palm slowly, as if she was reading something written there.

For a moment, she said nothing. Then she spoke.

“You work in a field that requires precision,” she said calmly. “You are disciplined, and strong-minded. You’re.....a doctor.”

I froze in shock. That was... accurate.

I glanced at Zade briefly, then back at her.

“You carry responsibility for your family,” she continued. “Not because you have to, but because you choose to. You do it even when it becomes heavy”

My chest tightened. She was right and it was scaring the hell out of me. I thought this would just be a joke.

“How do you-” I started, but stopped myself.

She didn’t answer. She just continued.

“You have been hurt,” she said softly. “Not once, but more than that. And yet, you still stand.”

Her words felt too precise. They felt too close to home.

I swallowed hard.

“You don’t trust easily anymore,” she added. “But your heart has not closed completely.”

I didn’t know what to say.

Everything she said felt too close, too real. It didn’t feel like guessing. It felt like she was looking directly into something I had tried to hide.

Then she paused. Her eyes moved from my hand to somewhere beside me.

“To your future,” she said quietly.

I looked up. Her eyes were now focused on Zade, who was standing a few feet away from us.

“The person you are meant to be with,” she continued slowly, “is not far from you.”

My heart skipped. I didn’t move. I couldn’t even if I wanted to.

“He is already beside you,” she said. “This connection is not accidental. It is something that was meant to happen.”

The air felt heavier. I felt it. My wolf felt it too. She howled inside me.

“This is not a simple meeting,” the fortune-teller added. “It is destiny.”

I pulled my hand back slowly. My mind struggled to process everything she had just said.

“This is just coincidence,” I said quickly, though my voice didn’t sound as confident as I wanted it to.

The woman didn’t argue. She simply smiled.

“Sometimes,” she said, “coincidence is just another word for fate.”

I stood up slowly. I just wanted to leave here before she could read me further.

Zade watched me from where he stood. I couldn’t look at him properly.

Something inside me had shifted, and I didn’t know what to do with it.

For the first time, I felt unsure, not just about everything around me, but about him.

And that uncertainty I felt... scared me more than anything else.
