Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce

Chapter 219: Putting the Divorce on Hold

Lucia explained the matter to Adrian Lancaster in detail.

After she finished, Adrian slowly lowered his head and covered his face with his hands. His shoulders trembled slightly, and he remained silent for a long time.

"Adrian," Lucia began softly, trying to comfort him. "Wren’s heart is with you. It’s never left. When she rejected Spencer Sawyer, she didn’t even know if you would ever come back. She’d rather wait for you than accept any other man. You can doubt anyone in the world, but you can’t doubt Wren Sutton’s love for you."

Adrian finally lifted his head. His eyes were red, and the frantic fear in them had mostly faded, replaced by a profound, almost painful sense of relief.

"I’ve failed her in so many ways. That’s why I want to go home." His voice was hoarse. "It’s not to see if she’ll leave me. It’s because I miss her too much."

Lucia smiled and nodded. "I understand how you feel, Adrian. But you need to get better first before you can truly be the rock Wren needs."

"Listen to Director Foster. Cooperate with the hospital’s treatment. The more you cooperate, the sooner you can be discharged."

Adrian fell silent, offering no rebuttal.

That night, he dreamed again.

This time, Adrian didn’t dream of partings. Instead, he dreamed of a sunny afternoon. Wren Sutton was sitting on their balcony reading a book. Hearing him come home, she looked up and gave him a warm, spring-like smile and an embrace.

「...」

Adrian actively cooperated with his doctors, and seven days later, he completed the discharge procedures.

Director Foster gave him many caring instructions. Adrian, remembering his previous behavior, felt a pang of guilt.

"Director Foster, I’m sorry. I was wrong to argue with you the other day."

Director Foster waved it off. "Let’s not talk about the past. Go home and get some proper rest."

Adrian said gratefully, "Thank you, Uncle Foster."

Director Foster and Theodore Lancaster were old friends of many years. Their bond was deep, and he saw Adrian as half a son.

"Your father has aged a lot this past year you’ve been away. He’s been worried sick about you. Be a good son to him."

Adrian nodded. "Mm, I understand."

Downstairs from the hospital building, the Lancaster family’s black sedan had been waiting for a long time.

When the driver saw Adrian walk out, he respectfully pulled open the car door, his eyes filled with tears.

"Young Master, everyone is at home waiting for you."

Adrian got into the back seat and left the hospital.

As the car drove along the main road, Adrian gazed out the window at the streetscape flying by in reverse.

’It’s been a year. The city doesn’t seem to have changed much, yet it feels like everything has.’

Half an hour later, the car turned onto a familiar, tree-lined avenue, and the Lancaster family villa gradually came into view.

Two neat rows of people stood on either side of the villa’s main gate. Old Li, the gardener, stood on the left with the gardening staff, while Chef Zhang stood on the right with the kitchen team.

Everyone was dressed in clean uniforms, their faces beaming with sincere smiles.

There were no flowers or ribbons in their hands. They simply stood there quietly, welcoming Adrian Lancaster’s return with their gazes. Every one of them bowed to him.

Old Li even secretly wiped the corner of his eye. The old gardener, who had worked for the Lancaster family for half his life, had watched Adrian grow up.

The car stopped in front of the main building, and an even more moving sight appeared before Adrian.

In front of the main entrance, his entire family was waiting for him.

His father, Theodore Lancaster, had undisguised excitement in his eyes. His mother, Claire Sterling, stood beside his father, craning her neck in anticipation.

His grandmother stood in the middle, supported by Lucia. Her silver hair was combed immaculately, and she wore a traditional Chinese-style Tang suit, her eyes twinkling with a gentle light.

Julian Lancaster was also there. The old antagonism was gone from his eyes, replaced by pure relief and acceptance.

Adrian’s gaze continued to move, finally landing on Wren Sutton.

She stood beside his grandmother, dressed in a dusty pink knit dress. Her long hair was loosely pinned up, and her face held a gentle, complex smile.

In two strollers, the babies were dressed in cute, beautiful loungewear, looking around curiously.

Adrian pushed open the car door and set foot on the familiar marble steps. His heart pounded violently, and his eyes instantly grew hot.

"Grandma, Dad, Mom, Lucia, Julian."

His voice was choked with emotion as his gaze swept over his family members one by one, finally resting on Wren Sutton. "Wren."

Theodore Lancaster took a step forward and clapped his son’s shoulder firmly.

"It’s good you’re back. It’s good you’re back."

Those eight short words were filled with a year’s worth of worry and concern.

Claire Sterling could no longer hold back. She rushed forward to hug her son tightly, sobbing uncontrollably.

"Adrian, you’re finally home from the hospital."

Adrian hugged his mother back, feeling her trembling shoulders, and a huge wave of guilt washed over him.

’This past year, I’ve made my family endure so much worry and pain.’

"Yes, Mom, I’m back."

Claire Sterling slowly composed herself. Adrian released her and walked over to his grandmother.

"Grandma."

The old woman raised a hand to stroke his face, her eyes filled with tears. "You’ve gotten thin."

Nearby, Lucia was already a mess of tears. "Adrian, do you have any idea how much we missed you?"

Adrian patted his sister’s head, then turned his gaze to Julian Lancaster.

The two brothers locked eyes for a moment, and the past estrangement and disputes silently melted away in their shared glance.

Julian took a step forward and held out his hand. "Brother, welcome home."

Adrian gripped his younger brother’s hand tightly and pulled him into a brotherly hug.

He could feel Julian’s arms hugging him back just as forcefully. In that moment, all misunderstandings and barriers vanished into thin air.

"Thank you, Julian."

After letting go of his brother, Adrian turned to Wren Sutton.

She stood there quietly, the sunlight outlining her form in a soft, golden halo.

Their eyes met, and Adrian could read so many complex emotions in hers.

Relief, tenderness, and a certain turbulence he couldn’t quite decipher.

"Welcome home." Wren’s voice was very soft, with a barely perceptible tremble.

Adrian’s gaze was full of deep affection. Just as he was about to speak, the baby girl started babbling, drawing his attention.

Adrian slowly walked over and leaned down to look into the strollers. His daughter was sucking on her little fist, while his son stared up with wide, round eyes at the clouds drifting across the sky.

In that instant, Adrian felt a nearly sacred shock. These two little lives were his children, miracles who had come into the world during his disappearance.

"How old are they?" he asked softly, afraid that a loud voice might startle the children.

"They’ll be four months old in ten days."

Adrian couldn’t control his tears anymore as they streamed down his cheeks.

He hastily wiped them away with the back of his hand, but more tears welled up.

Over the past year, no matter what hardships and torment he had faced, he had never shed a tear. But now, faced with his family’s unconditional love and patience, all his strength crumbled in an instant.

Adrian reached out, wanting to hold one of the babies, but the two small lives were so fragile, he didn’t know where to place his rough hands.

Wren sensed his intention and gently instructed, "Support the baby’s head and back. Yes, just like that."

Adrian carefully took his daughter from Wren’s arms.

The baby girl squirmed in his arms, her lips curving into a sweet smile that revealed her bare gums.

Adrian’s heart melted instantly, and his eyes grew hot. "Sweetheart, Daddy’s home."

A moment later, he picked up his son. The boy was a little heavier than his sister. He lay quietly in his father’s arms, staring at him with wide eyes, then reached out a small hand and grabbed a button on his shirt.

Adrian smiled with satisfaction. "He really is exactly like I was as a baby."

After putting the baby back in the stroller, Adrian turned to Wren and eagerly stepped forward to pull her into a tight embrace.

He buried his face in her hair, inhaling her familiar scent—the smell of the shampoo she always used.

’It’s been a year. This scent has appeared in my dreams countless times.’

"Thank you," Adrian’s voice was choked with emotion. "Thank you for being willing to have my children. Thank you for not leaving me."

Wren’s body stiffened slightly, but she didn’t resist. Her fingertips curled at her sides.

"It’s enough that you came back safely."

’Everything else can wait. Now isn’t the right time.’
