Becoming a Saint From the Iron Armor Skill

Chapter 126 - 92: Real and Fake Spirit Fish

Several men dressed in the uniforms of the City Guard Department arrived, and the crowd of onlookers quickly parted to make way for them.

"You’ve got some nerve, daring to fight me for Room A?"

"I booked Room A this morning. How is this me fighting you for it? Shopkeeper, you tell us who’s in the right. Wasn’t I the first to book it?"

"Sigh... Master Li, why don’t you be a little flexible and let Young Master Wang have Room A?"

"There’s a principle of first-come, first-served. If I give up the room, how am I supposed to answer to my superior?"

"Sigh... Young Master Wang, perhaps..."

"Tonight is a joyous occasion for me, and I’m hosting an honored guest. It must be Room A."

"What does you hosting a guest have to do with... Mr. Liu, Mr. Chen!" Li Sheng was arguing with a lavishly dressed young man when he saw Chen Cheng and the others arrive. A look of delight crossed his face as he hurried forward to greet them.

"What’s happening?" Liu Yunfeng asked coolly, his eyes scanning the area.

Li Sheng explained everything from the beginning. "Mr. Liu, I booked Room A early on. This Young Master Wang only arrived this afternoon, but he wants me to clear out the room for him."

"Shopkeeper, is this true?" Liu Yunfeng asked, turning to the middle-aged shopkeeper.

Liu Yunfeng wore a blue uniform with cloud patterns. The middle-aged shopkeeper immediately recognized him as the Branch Chief Constable of the Ruyi Square Sub-Department. He quickly shot the young master a meaningful glance before stepping forward, bowing, and saying, "My lord, this is all a misunderstanding. Young Master Wang was unaware of your arrival."

"Master Li booked Room A in advance, just waiting for you. My lord, this way, please."

Liu Yunfeng gave a slight nod, not deigning to pursue the matter. Without so much as a glance at Young Master Wang, he turned to Chen Cheng and said, "Ah Cheng, let’s go inside."

Chen Cheng glanced over and saw only Li Lin standing beside Li Sheng. It seemed Mr. Mu and the others had not yet arrived. "Mr. Liu, you and Third Brother can head on up," he said. "I’ll wait for Mr. Mu and the rest."

"Alright," Liu Yunfeng replied, entering the Drunken Immortal Tower as the shopkeeper showed him in.

The young master knew he couldn’t afford to provoke Liu Yunfeng, so he didn’t dare cause any more trouble. With a snort, he wrapped an arm around the waist of the young woman beside him and led his entourage into the tower.

Upon seeing the young woman, Chen Cheng’s brow furrowed slightly. She was none other than Jiang Yun, and her father, Jiang Rongxuan, was among Young Master Wang’s followers.

Li Sheng shot a glance at the departing young master and said to Chen Cheng, "Mr. Chen, it’s a good thing you and Mr. Liu arrived when you did. Otherwise, I’m afraid we really would have lost Room A."

"It’s nothing." Chen Cheng waved a dismissive hand. "Who is this Young Master Wang?"

Li Sheng seemed quite wary and lowered his voice. "His name is Wang Cong. He’s said to be from a collateral branch of the Inner City Wang Family. We normally wouldn’t dare to provoke him, but since you invited Mr. Liu today, Mr. Chen, I couldn’t just let him take Room A. I had no choice but to stand my ground."

Chen Cheng understood his underlying concern: he was afraid of causing trouble by offending the Wang Family. "This is Ruyi District," Chen Cheng said reassuringly. "Since Mr. Liu is already aware of the situation, you have nothing to worry about."

"Yes." Li Sheng instantly felt a great sense of relief.

’With his family background, he naturally wouldn’t dare to provoke Wang Cong. But if the room he’d booked was snatched away, he’d be in an even more awkward position with Chen Cheng and Liu Yunfeng.’

’After all, if he couldn’t even handle a simple task like booking a table, who would ever entrust him with anything important?’

Before long, Mu Zhenhai, Mu Chuan, Mu Song, Su Chenglin, and the rest of the guests arrived.

Chen Cheng greeted the group and led them up to Room A.

Drunken Immortal Tower lived up to its reputation as the most famous restaurant in the area. The dishes served were all rare delicacies of the mountains and seas.

"Ah Cheng, this is far too extravagant," said Liu Yunfeng.

Mu Zhenhai added, "A feast like this must cost no less than twenty or thirty taels of silver."

Since Chen Cheng hadn’t spent a single coin—the meal being treated by someone else—he wasn’t about to take the credit. He smiled and said, "The Li Sheng and Li Lin brothers are our hosts tonight."

The Li brothers were already mentally prepared; even if Chen Cheng had claimed to be the host himself, they would have had to go along with it. For Chen Cheng to name them as the hosts filled them with delight. ’Finally,’ they thought, ’our efforts weren’t in vain.’

Li Sheng shot Chen Cheng a grateful look, then rose, cupped his hands in a fist, and said earnestly, "We are only able to host Mr. Liu and everyone here tonight because of Mr. Chen’s reputation. It is our honor that Mr. Chen has given us brothers this opportunity to show you all respect."

"The main course is a two-pound Spirit Fish, said to have been caught fresh from Jishui Lake just this morning. It’s on its way."

"They have Spirit Fish! It’s been years since I’ve had any. The taste is simply marvelous." Mu Zhenhai smacked his lips. "Yunfeng, the last time I ate Spirit Fish, it was with you."

Liu Yunfeng was extremely respectful toward Mr. Mu. He smiled and said, "Elder Mu, with Spirit Fish on the menu, you must have an extra cup or two."

Mu Zhenhai let out a hearty laugh. "You’ve been promoted to Chief Constable, and Ah Cheng has been appointed to Lishui District. This is a double celebration! I’m not going home sober tonight."

As they were speaking, a waiter brought over a platter of steamed fish and set it on the table.

"Elder Mu, after you!" Liu Yunfeng quickly gestured for Mr. Mu to be the first to take a piece.

"Then I won’t stand on ceremony," Mu Zhenhai said. He picked up a piece of the fish with his chopsticks and placed it in his mouth, chewing slowly.

"Hmm... This Spirit Fish tastes... off."

Seeing this, Liu Yunfeng also took a piece. After one bite, his expression darkened.

"This isn’t a Spirit Fish. It’s just a common black carp."

The expression on everyone’s face changed. The Drunken Immortal Tower had always prided itself on its reputation, serving only the finest delicacies.

’To pass off a black carp as a Spirit Fish, and to serve it to the Branch Chief Constable of the Ruyi Square Sub-Department, of all people... Are they trying to destroy their own good name?’

"My lord, I beg your forgiveness!" Just then, the shopkeeper of the Drunken Immortal Tower came rushing over in a panic, apologizing profusely.

"My lord, honored guests, one of my staff was careless and mistakenly brought out a black carp instead of the Spirit Fish. I will have it replaced immediately."

With that, the shopkeeper took the platter of black carp away. A short while later, he personally returned with another platter of steamed fish.
