Leisurely Farm Life in Beast World

Chapter 1248 - 1247: Dense Red Scorpions

"Nuannuan, look at the center."

Xiu Yan’s voice sounded close to her ear. Ji Nuan focused her gaze, and her pupils instantly contracted.

"How could there be so many..."

Below the sandpit was an overwhelming mass of red scorpions, dense and horrifying to behold.

She felt her scalp tingling with unease.

Xiu Yan frowned as he surveyed the surroundings, then turned while holding Ji Nuan: "Look over there."

In the distance, a flood-like swarm surged in their direction.

"Firebird Beasts! So many Firebird Beasts!"

They seemed to have caught scent of the red scorpions and stampeded towards the sandpit, plunging in without pause once they reached the edge.

Moments ago, the red scorpions at the bottom of the pit were leisurely moving about, but now they were thrown into complete chaos, scrambling up the walls of the pit.

Yet their situation turned hopeless, as not only the pit’s bottom but even its surrounds were completely encircled by Firebird Beasts; any scorpion daring to surface would face the firebirds’ piercing beaks.

It was entirely plausible that the sandpit’s collapse had unveiled the red scorpions’ insect nest...

"Enough, enough, I can’t watch anymore. Seriously, if Maomao and the rest hadn’t reacted so quickly, we’d probably have ended up as these bugs’ excrement by now."

The two beasts had just flown back, and Harry’s beasts turned their curious gazes toward him: "Shaman Ji Nuan, what was inside?"

Ji Nuan’s expression twisted as if constipation had struck her: "The red scorpions’ lair."

Immediately, the orcs’ faces changed, Casa’s expression becoming the most grim.

Being the only member of the team previously wounded by a red scorpion, Casa had developed an enduring fear of them.

The journey onward held no further dangers. The surrounding vegetation and thorny fruits began to appear more frequently, but signs of orcs remained absent.

Ji Nuan began to suspect whether they had veered off the correct path.

Night arrived quickly, and the desert’s temperature plummeted sharply.

After setting up the tents, Ji Nuan handed a pouch of medicinal powder to Harry: "This powder repels insects. Here, we don’t have to worry much about Desert Wolves or Horned Beasts, but those highly venomous red scorpions must be guarded against."

Harry accepted the powder: "I’ll sprinkle it around the tents right now."

"Sprinkle it inside the tents as well. Those bugs can tunnel through the sand."

Harry’s warm expression turned serious, and he nodded: "Got it."

Back inside the tent, Casa and Norz removed all the beast skins laid on the ground, while Harry meticulously spread the powder over everything.

He then took the remaining powder and scattered it around the tents.

"Even though the powder’s been spread, we still need to arrange night watches. We’ll take turns."

"I’ll go first, Casa second, Norz last."

Casa frowned: "Norz and I can take turns keeping watch. Shaman, you should rest."

After spending time with the group, Casa had begun to speak more, no longer limiting himself to sparse, brief remarks.

Harry shook his head: "In times as dangerous as this, it’s not about the shaman’s identity. This is the plan, decided. You two rest first—I’ll wake you when it’s your turn."

With that, he walked straight to the fire pit located between the two tents, taking a seat—the spot by the fire was undoubtedly one of the safest places, as the red scorpions would never dare approach.

"Shaman Harry isn’t going to rest?"

Ji Nuan poked her head out curiously.

"The three of us are taking turns on night watch. Shaman Ji Nuan, you can sleep soundly."
