Leisurely Farm Life in Beast World

Chapter 1239 - 1238: The Changes in Temperature

Time does not linger there, waiting for the beasts of the past.

Even though the cold season was still incredibly harsh, some orcs managed to pull through.

In the desert, there is no rainy season. The end of the cold season is marked by the gradual increase in temperatures, as the sun passionately embraces this land. The snow piled high by the orcs begins to slowly melt, nourishing the golden earth.

The temperature changes quickly. When Ji Nuan went outside wearing her padded clothes, she could already feel an obvious warmth.

She returned to the cave and swapped out her padded clothes for slightly thicker beast skin garments.

However, the atmosphere in the Sahara Tribe was even tenser than during the cold season. Apart from essential water collection trips, the orcs were rarely seen within the tribe.

Not even during the day could you spot them.

After finishing lunch, Ji Nuan and Xiu Yan were in the cave sorting through the last bits of their food. Their remaining provisions would barely last another two weeks—it seemed they’d have to go out to replenish their supplies soon.

Anyway, now that the cold season was over, the wild beasts should also have started roaming about.

"Awooo~ Awooo~"

"Aw-aw-aw~"

Suddenly, a series of wolf howls echoed from outside the cave, causing Ji Nuan and Xiu Yan to pause their actions and exchange a glance. Doubt flickered in their eyes.

"Brother Xiu Yan, was that wolf howling just now from outside?"

The orc’s deep, brooding eyes scanned the outside and his dark brows furrowed slightly. "Yes, desert wolves."

The stench of the beasts’ blood and flesh was so strong it could be smelled from a distance.

Ji Nuan stood up. "Let’s go have a look. Why would desert wolves come to the tribe?"

Xiu Yan rose as well and grabbed her hand. "Stay behind me. Let’s assess the situation first."

The two made their way to the stone door, cautiously opening it just a crack to peer outside.

In the area before their cave, a dozen or so desert wolves were prowling about, primarily circling the Food Storage Cave and Maomao’s cave.

It seemed these creatures had picked up their scent.

"I wonder if there are wolves elsewhere. If it’s just these ones, we can kill them and replenish our food supplies," Ji Nuan said, her eyes gleaming with a predatory green light as she sized up the beasts outside.

Xiu Yan gave her hair a playful tug. "Are you an idiot, or do you think the desert wolves are idiots?"

Although he didn’t directly address her question, Ji Nuan felt as though Xiu Yan was mocking her intelligence.

"This is only a small group. We could follow them and hunt a few when they leave, but it’s best not to confront them within the tribe. Their numbers are too large—it would endanger the entire Sahara Tribe."

The orc calmly analyzed the situation.

Ji Nuan looked at the beasts outside. "Too many? You mean there are even more desert wolves within the Sahara Tribe than just these?"

Xiu Yan nodded. "Desert wolves have very keen senses of smell. As long as orcs are present, they can trace the scent and find us."

Ji Nuan gazed at the lean, hungry wolves pacing outside and nodded slowly. She began to understand why the orcs of the Sahara Tribe hadn’t ventured out even after the cold season ended.

Instead, the entire tribe seemed to have developed an extreme case of reclusive behavior, hiding away in their caves and refusing to step outside—probably because of these desert wolves.

Seeing that the wolves couldn’t enter the cave, Ji Nuan and Xiu Yan resolved to leave them be and returned to sorting through their belongings.

These desert wolves really were persistent. Having caught the orcs’ scent, they lingered in the Sahara Tribe and only left by the afternoon.
