Chapter 1231 - 1230: The Great Item
Awa walked in carrying a Firebird Beast on his shoulder. Ji Nuan’s eyes lit up the moment she saw the prey: "Firebird?"
Awa nodded with a smile: "This was sent over by the Shaman for you. I heard from Shaman Harry that you’re particularly fond of Firebird Beasts."
Ji Nuan was delighted, and Xiu Yan didn’t hold back. He walked over directly and took the Firebird from Awa’s hands.
"Is this sand grass?" Awa asked, looking at the fluffy white bundle casually placed on the beast skin mat near the fire pit.
Ji Nuan nodded: "Mm, it’s the food for the twin-humped beast brought back by the Mogor Tribe last time."
Awa pointed to the pile of sand grass: "Shaman, you mustn’t let this sand grass fall into water. Once it touches water, it turns into a sticky white paste that’s incredibly hard to clean.
One time after a sandstorm, a lot of this sand grass was blown into the lake at the center. Most of the lake’s surface was covered with it, and the tribes living around the oasis had to rotate shifts to clean it up for a long time.
And if you dry it, it turns into a big white patch. The Shaman said it has to be buried deep underground; otherwise, it could bring misfortune to the tribe."
Ji Nuan glanced at the sand grass on the beast skin mat beside her, a glimmer of excitement flickering in her eyes.
She suddenly thought of something good. Hehe.
Awa stayed for a while before bidding farewell to Ji Nuan. Over by the kitchen, only Ada was there, and he needed to head over to relieve his post.
"Brother Xiu Yan, where is that roll of cotton cloth we brought in?" Ji Nuan was brimming with excitement, eager to test out her idea.
Xiu Yan paused cleaning the Firebird in his hands, then walked to a corner, where he grabbed a roll of arm-length cotton cloth from a back basket.
Ji Nuan cut off a piece of the cotton cloth and asked Xiu Yan to craft a rectangular frame for her. Then, she stretched the cloth over the frame.
She set it aside for now and began tinkering with the sand grass.
Xiu Yan saw what she was up to and turned back to focus on his project of culinary greatness. How should he prepare an entire Firebird?
Should it be roasted? Or turned into a stir-fry?
Meanwhile, Ji Nuan had already immersed the sand grass into a porcelain basin filled with cold water.
The remaining sand grass was placed into a pot of boiling water bubbling over the fire pit.
She boiled and stirred, meticulously observing the changes in the sand grass inside the pot.
As the water tumbled and swirled, the sand grass inside seemed to disintegrate rapidly into an incredibly fine paste.
What’s more, the longer it boiled, the thicker and stickier it became.
After removing the pot from the fire pit, Ji Nuan glanced at the sand grass soaking in the cold water. It had started to dissolve as well, though some solid fragments remained visible.
Ji Nuan picked up a wooden stick and began stirring the basin.
Sure enough, with her stirring, the sand grass in the basin broke down more quickly.
However, compared to the sand grass boiled in the pot, this version was markedly inferior—much rougher in texture.
Leaving the sand grass soaking on its own, Ji Nuan moved on to other matters and stopped paying it further attention.
Grabbing the frame she had just prepared, she placed it on a rack nearby. She poured some of the cooled sand grass paste from the pot onto the cotton cloth.
Then, picking up the framed cloth, she gently shook it side to side, spreading the sand grass paste evenly over the cotton fabric.
Once finished, she returned the stretched frame to the rack, allowing the water in the sand grass paste to drip onto the ground.
"What’s that?" Xiu Yan had finished cutting up the Firebird and had been watching her intently for quite some time now.
Ji Nuan grinned mischievously: "This is something great—once it’s done, you’re definitely going to love it."
