Leisurely Farm Life in Beast World

Chapter 1192 - 1191: Yellow Goat Beast Skin Notebook

The old Shaman glanced at her helplessly, "Why are you standing there? Hurry and come in."

Then he turned to the Orc at the cave entrance and said, "Go fetch some fruit."

The Orc quickly responded affirmatively, bid farewell to the two Shamans, and left.

Following behind the old Shaman into the mountain cave, the place looked vastly different from the last time they came.

Last time, the cave had been spacious and clean, but this time as Ji Nuan stepped inside, she felt as though there wasn’t even a spot for her to plant her foot.

The ground around was covered with large and small long leaves, on which various types of herbs were arranged.

Though the variety wasn’t extensive, the quantity of herbs was abundant.

Inside the cave, two young Orcs were busy tidying up.

The old Shaman led Ji Nuan and Xiu Yan to sit at a spot deep inside the cave. Wiping his hands smeared with the juices from sorting herbs, he said, "Why are you running to my place instead of taking the time to hunt these past few days?"

Ji Nuan picked up a herb lying nearby and sniffed it, then looked at the old Shaman, "I just wanted to ask you about the herbs found in the desert. I figured I’d take the chance to preserve a few in the next couple of days."

The old Shaman nodded, "Ah, so that’s it..."

He stood up and said, "You’re coming at just the right time; I’m organizing herbs today. Come and take a look."

With that, he began walking Ji Nuan around the area, picking up herbs from the long leaves and explaining their effects and the ailments they could treat.

Ji Nuan had already taken out a new book made of yellow goat hide. Listening intently, she used a dark wooden stick to jot down notes onto the goat hide book.

The non-fading Potion would need some time to dry, so Ji Nuan planned to ink over the markings with Potion later, once she was back.

She spent the entire morning at the old Shaman’s place, recording the illustrations, scents, habitats, medicinal properties, and curative uses of all the herbs.

When the old Shaman saw her yellow goat hide book, he was utterly stunned. After hearing Ji Nuan explain its purpose, he looked even more envious.

Seeing the old Shaman’s gaze almost glued to her goat hide book, Ji Nuan had a sudden thought and decided to copy a version for him when she returned.

However, the copied version wouldn’t have any text, as there weren’t any Orcs in the Sahara Tribe who could read.

After bidding farewell, Ji Nuan and Xiu Yan returned to their own cave.

Carefully spreading open the yellow goat hide book, Ji Nuan adjusted the Potion and started inking over the earlier records she’d made.

Having a draft made her work progress more than twice as quickly.

She then took out a new book and copied the herb drawings from the previous book, leaving out the textual descriptions.

Instead, she used simple drawings to depict the symptoms for each ailment and placed them next to the corresponding herbs.

When giving this herb compilation to the old Shaman, she would likely need to give a brief verbal explanation of the meaning behind these symptom drawings.

Ji Nuan didn’t procrastinate; once the Potion on the herb compilation had dried completely, she brought it to the old Shaman’s cave once again.

The guard was still the same young Orc from the morning. Seeing Ji Nuan return, he hurriedly bowed in greeting, then let her inside.

Inside the cave, the old Shaman and two Orcs were still busy working. Because Ji Nuan had occupied the Shaman’s time for an entire morning, their herb-organizing tasks had been postponed to the afternoon.
