Chapter 1107 - 1106: A Dead End
The three beasts slept until almost dinner time before waking up. By then, Casa had already hunted a few wild animals nearby and had cleaned them, placing them neatly on a stone to the side.
As the sun went down, he came once again to the big rock by the mountainside and looked out towards the golden landscape on the other side.
With the trees’ shade preventing sunlight from reaching this side of the mountain, the area was spared from the searing heat, but the golden expanse on the other side seemed to still be simmering with waves of heat.
Casa was also munching on a juicy fruit in his hand.
After eating, the three beasts noticed Casa standing there with no intention to come over and couldn’t help but be curious; was there something that had caught his attention?
"Casa, come and eat," said Norz.
Harry furrowed his brow as he looked at the towering silhouette standing on the rock gazing into the distance; what could be more important than eating?
Casa finished his fruit, tossing the core down the mountain, then turned to them: "I’ve already eaten. When you’re done, come and take a look as well."
The three beasts exchanged surprised glances and walked towards Casa: "What’s going on?"
You’ve been standing here for a long time and now as the sun sets, it gets a bit chilly," Tuya remarked.
"Yes, although you are an evolved orc, but... it’s... it’s... what is THAT!!!"
Norz’s chatter halted abruptly, and his face turned pale as he looked over to the area on the other side of the mountain that still seemed to bask in the midday sun; he finally understood why Casa had been standing there eating fruit.
He wanted to eat as well, what to do? Moreover, fine beads of sweat were slowly beginning to form on his body.
Harry and Tuya were already shocked by that swath of golden color and upon thinking of their upcoming target, their faces grew grim.
"Can we really withstand such weather?" Tuya murmured.
Harry silently picked a juicy, sweet fruit from a large leaf on Casa’s feet and crunched into it.
Feeling the comfort of the moistness in his mouth, he finally felt alive again.
He sighed heavily: "Casa, what do you think?"
Casa turned his head silently to look at him: "If you want my advice, it’s to go back."
His duty was to protect Harry, and that boundless golden expanse looked extremely dangerous at first glance. Moreover, having watched for a long time, he had not spotted any trace of thorny plants; who knew if they were even there now.
In such a place, without food or water, what awaited them was a certain death.
If he were alone, he would also like to explore, but among them was the tribe’s newly appointed Shaman, and the old Shaman was getting very old, with no telling how much longer he could live.
Yet, the prospect of grooming another Shaman as excellent as Harry was undoubtedly impossible.
Therefore, Harry was very important to the tribe.
Every time he looked at that golden expanse, he remembered what the old Shaman once told him.
The day before setting out on the journey, the old Shaman had called him into the tent and spoken to him earnestly: "This trip, as long as it does not endanger Harry’s life, you can let him try things; after all, he will eventually take on the role of Shaman.
But remember, if his life is threatened, you must absolutely not let him go."
