Chapter 36: Buying a new weapon
Aegon walked through the street light beaming with brilliance, vehicles moving in a hurry as though they were late for a midnight class or work.
It was already late at night, the streets were crowded with people; lonely people, couples holding each other laughing as they went for a date and individuals on the ground looking for part-time jobs.
Even some farmers who talked about how their last mission went; more of how they almost died or the kind of resources they might obtain which could have made them a fortune.
Meanwhile, Aegon moved among these people. He had a goal in mind for this moment, which was to find a high-end shop where he would be able to exchange the crystals for cash.
"I don’t know exactly where they stay, but I know it’s somewhere around the Farmers Association building."
It was true, because that was where a lot of farmers go every day. It was only expected that afterwards they would come out to purchase a weapon.
It was the best location for customer rush. The Farmers Association building as it is already known is the tallest building in the city and can be seen at every corner of the city.
With this, people use it as a way to find directions, and it has already become a landmark for the city.
He was getting close.
While walking, Aegon thought of a couple of things.
"I spent nothing less than a week in that fake Abyss. Although I expected the time to be different and past a month, it didn’t."
"It was a good thing that I had the return stone which made me leave there easily. I wonder..."
Aegon was about to think of those he departed with during that time, when he suddenly saw a shop.
The shop was massive and had a neon light at the top with the drawing of two swords crossed together.
"This is it..."
Aegon entered the shop and saw that the lobby was big, and just five feet from the door was a man sitting behind a counter.
"It’s almost like the Farmers Association..."
The structure of the lobby gave him a deja vu as it was the same structure with that of the Farmers Association.
Of course it was, they were literally in the same area. It was a good thing to do, so to make Farmers feel at home just like the association building.
However, even though it was the same, that was just the lobby. The rest were completely different; in the style of a real shop that sells weapons.
Aegon approached the man behind the counter and he was greeted.
"Good day, Sir. How can I help you."
Aegon looked at the man; he was in his early thirties, still very young to the point that you would know that life hasn’t hit him yet.
The man didn’t smile but kept a neutral expression, then Aegon responded.
"I am here to do an exchange..."
Hearing this, the man adjusted himself and spoke.
"Of course. Is it a sword, a knife, a melee?..." he locked over Aegon’s front as though he was looking for something then he continued, "a shield perhaps?"
Aegon’s eyes landed on the man’s face as though he was making a joke, then he spoke.
"No, I’m here to make an exchange with this..." He brought the dagger from the bag he carried. "...with this dagger."
"Argh..."
Upon seeing the already bit up dagger, the man looked at Aegon then back at the dagger with an expression of disgust.
"That isn’t in a good shape, isn’t it?" the man uttered as Aegon handed it to him.
The man collected it, and brought out a pair of glasses from nowhere, he wore it and moved his head backwards with the dagger towards Aegon as he inspected it.
Just then he spoke. "This thing is beyond beat. It’s wasted. Are you sure you don’t just want to buy another one?"
The man moved his glasses down to his nose and raised his gaze towards Aegon as he said this.
At the moment, Aegon felt a bit displeased. "I thought I could at least exchange it for something else." he mumbled.
The man dropped the dagger on the counter as he saw the undefeated expression Aegon was giving.
He had thought this customer would give up and just purchase another weapon which was surely going to be expensive.
Then he would rip the customer off and get his own part of the share. However, seeing as how Aegon didn’t look interested in buying another weapon he went for the next choice.
"If that’s the case we do have a promo we are doing, this way..."
The man stood up from where he was seated and walked out of the counter, leading Aegon who followed behind him.
"We have several weapons on this promo which you can exchange with. But these are not all that great, I must say. This is them..."
They arrived at the far side of the shop where a couple of weapons were laid on pedestals with a tag on them saying ’promo’.
The front of this area was a transparent glass full sized window. Aegon was shocked he didn’t see this when he passed.
Then again how could he? It wasn’t as if he was paying attention, with the busy street and distractions.
Aegon looked at the items one by one, while the man took a step backwards for the customer to choose.
He was wearing a white long sleeve shirt with a black bow tie, black trousers and a back shoe.
In this area, there were few weapons; the first was a sword, one that looked like a level 1 sword with no show of sharpness.
Aegon passed that one and moved to the next; it was a very long black mixed with brown spare.
Seeing this spare, Aegon passed it to the next. The next was another sword and beside it on the same pedestal was a knife.
"They are a set." The man uttered as Aegon stopped to take a look.
He wanted to lift them up, but when saw the knife had been broken at the tip, he moved to the next.
He passed the next and a few others as none of them seemed to catch his eyes. Just then, he stumbled upon a single weapon, one that wasn’t on the same line as the other.
It was a lethal dagger, with a jagged black blade edge and a crystalline purple scale guard with a long tan-wrapped grip.
It was over a white cloth which was on top of a silver pedestal.
This instantly caught Aegon’s attention, and he quickly moved towards it. The man saw his movement and his lips curved into a smile.
"That was forged out of the fang of a wolf..." the man uttered as he moved to Aegon.
Aegon gestured and the man gave him the go ahead of picking it up.
Aegon lifted the dagger up as it actually looked like a wolf fang. He wasn’t surprised because he had just defeated one.
’I didn’t think I’d see a weapon made of one of those. The others were only crafted with regular material but this is from a real monster set of teeth.’
Aegon turned to the man and asked; "Do you know who brought this in?"
The man was startled at the question, because not every customer walks in and asks where a weapon was brought, although he still had to respond.
"It was brought in one month ago by a farmer. He had claimed to kill a dire wolf monster in the abyss and took one of its teeth for himself, to sell of course."
Aegon looked away from the man and thought inwardly. ’So it is still fresh?’ He dropped the dagger down and noticed something.
"No tag?" he asked.
The man smiled as he heard this and was about to speak when suddenly three Farmers walked into the shop with blood stains over themselves while carrying what looked like a bag of resources from the Abyss.
Aegon and the man’s attention was turned towards them, then the man began approaching them to know their needs, while Aegon stayed and watched.
The farmers were discussing amongst themselves as they walked in when suddenly, some words that they said entered into Aegon’s ear.
"Yeah, there will be a selection of Farmers tomorrow for the mission. It turns out a treasure was stolen from the Farmers Association secret vault by nine cloaked individuals."
