Chapter 375 350: Brothers! [Finale of This Volume]
'My brother has always been like a great, towering tree, supporting our family and shielding me from the storms of life. If it weren't for him... forget about where we are now, back in Luoshui City, Nie Haotian would have torn our family apart and left us all for dead!'
'Brother, you can't die!'
'If you die, Second Uncle, Aunt, Sister... everyone will die!'
'With the nest overturned, no egg stays whole.'
'Brother, you can't die for a useless person like me. You must live on to do great things!'
'Brother, do you remember? It was you who taught me the most profound Body Cultivation Method. It was you who taught me the principles of the sword. It was you who healed my crippled legs. Without you, I would have been nothing but a good-for-nothing, just eating and waiting to die! Without you, forget about getting revenge for my legs—I wouldn't even know who my enemy was. Without you, I would have spent my days staring at the same patch of sky, never knowing how vast the world truly is!'
'I know you don't care about any of this. I used to resent you; I thought you didn't care for me. But ever since you held me in the courtyard that day, I understood everything. I know now that you didn't let me practice the sword not because you thought I was useless, but because you were afraid I'd get hurt! I know you ignored me because you were trying to find a way to heal my injuries! I know you willingly endured humiliation from others only because you had people at home you cared for…'
'I could feel your joy when you saw me in Guangming City. I can feel your brotherly love for me. I can feel your deep care and concern. I had hoped to dedicate myself to Cultivation, to one day become your right-hand man, to become your sharpest sword... but now... I can't anymore!'
'Since I can no longer become your sharpest sword, I won't be a stumbling block in your path. Brother, forgive my willfulness. Brother, forgive my mischief. This is the first, and the last, thing I'll ever do for you!'
'Goodbye, brother!'
Knowing he was suppressed by the Restriction and couldn't speak a word, Nie Tong's vision blurred. He focused all his will on a single point and suddenly erupted!
BOOM! PTHOO!
In that instant, every Restriction placed upon Nie Tong's body was utterly shattered. The force of the powerful blast compounded his existing wounds, causing him to spray blood wildly!
"Brother!"
He never expected that just as he was about to reach him, his brother would suddenly detonate the Restrictions on his body. Nie Yun's face turned deathly pale, and a pain as sharp as a knife stabbed through his heart. He scrambled to rush forward, but a wave of force slammed into him, knocking him to the side.
It was the force unleashed by his brother!
"Brother, don't come over! It's a trap!"
With a loud shout, Nie Tong struggled to his feet and charged onto the stone slab.
On the other side of the Array, Lord Hua had no idea that the one who had jumped up was Nie Tong, not Nie Yun. He unleashed the power he had prepared directly through the Array!
BOOM!
With a deafening roar that sounded as if the heavens and earth were collapsing, Nie Tong's body was thrown high into the air. An immensely powerful Soul Shocking Power surged into him.
A Soul Attack!
The Lord Hua on the other side had unleashed a Soul Attack!
The most terrifying, most powerful, and most inescapable Soul Attack Secret Technique!
A Soul Attack bypasses all Defense and Talismans to strike the soul directly!
"Brother... stay back..."
Nie Tong's aura was instantly swallowed by the immense Soul Attack, leaving only his faintest words lingering in the air.
THUD!
Nie Tong's body hit the ground, all breath gone.
"Nie Tong, Nie Tong! Brother! Brother! Wake up! Wake up!"
Seeing his brother lying on the ground, Nie Yun felt his entire world collapse. He leaped forward and gathered his brother into his arms, frantically pouring Healing Qi into his body. But no matter how potent the Healing Qi, it could only heal physical injuries. How could it possibly mend a soul that had been utterly annihilated?
"Nie Tong, you can't die! I won't let you die! You haven't found the holy land for practicing the sword yet, and I still have the Supreme Swordsmanship to teach you! You can't die!"
Clutching Nie Tong's thin, emaciated body, Nie Yun seemed possessed, completely overcome by madness.
But no matter how desperately he screamed, his brother just lay there, motionless, just as he had in his memories from three hundred years ago.
Three hundred years ago, his brother had lain in his arms just like this, with one hundred and thirty-seven sword wounds on his body, his breathing stopped!
In this life, he had thought he could give him a good life, but he never imagined that his brother would sacrifice himself to save him, his soul shattered and dispersed. Lying in his arms, his body was so thin, so frail!
Nie Yun had never realized how little flesh his brother had; he could feel every bone through the skin. He couldn't fathom how such a frail body could unleash such tremendous power!
"You will all die! Every single one of you will die!"
Clutching Nie Tong, Nie Yun's eyes turned blood-red. In that instant, he became a demon. With a furious roar, he swung his Profound Jade Sword straight down at the nearest person, Huangg Ling!
BOOM!
Thirty-two layers of Dark Force, 9,999 Elephant True Qi, and 5,000 Elephant Giant Power swept out like a hurricane and crashed down on Huangg Ling's head, smashing him into a bloody pulp with a single blow!
"He's gone mad! Run!"
Seeing the youth's crazed appearance and ferocity, Huangg Chen and the others were terrified. Not daring to fight him head-on, they let out sharp cries and scattered in all directions.
They were terrified!
Although they were powerful, the youth's crazed, cold gaze made their hearts tremble. They knew that the enmity between them and the youth was now irreconcilable. He would surely hunt them down and slaughter every last one of them!
"All of you, die! I'll make every last one of you accompany Nie Tong in death!"
Nie Yun had truly gone mad. Feeling the body in his arms grow colder and stiffer, he wished he could kill everyone to have them accompany his brother in death!
BOOM!
A Sword Aura streaked across the sky. The fleeing Qii Tao was struck by the blade and fell from the air, a shriveled husk.
"Heaven-Transferring Talisman, go!"
Seeing that he could kill Qii Tao from such a great distance, Huangg Chen and the Zi Qiong Emperor were scared half to death. The two of them suddenly produced a Spirit Talisman. With a WHOOSH, space twisted, and they vanished from sight!
It was a Heaven-Transferring Spiritual Talisman, a supreme Talisman given to them by Lord Hua to save their lives. It could instantly transport a person over a hundred thousand kilometers away!
It was the best life-saving Talisman, one they would only bear to use in a dire emergency. But now, seeing the youth's state, they were terrified. Nothing, no matter how precious, was more important than their own lives!
"Brother! Nie Tong, don't die! Wake up!"
Knowing the two had escaped with a Talisman and he couldn't catch them, Nie Yun looked down at his brother's face, which held a faint, satisfied smile from having protected him from harm. A pain that felt like his heart was being torn apart shot through him, and tears streamed down his face like rain!
His brother had left him "once again." His brother had died to save him "once again"!
"Nie Tong, I'm so sorry!"
A hoarse roar escaped Nie Yun's throat. It was as if the very heavens were grieving with him; a torrential downpour began, blanketing everything in sight.
PS: Regarding the character of Nie Tong, I (Lao Ya) had this plot point planned ever since his first appearance in Chapter Three. Writing this part has made my heart ache. It's an indescribable, uncomfortable feeling.
Nie Tong's life had only two goals: his brother and the sword. But for his brother, he was willing to abandon his own Sword Dao!
For the sake of his life's pursuits, Nie Tong could endure any hardship and shed any amount of sweat. When I was deciding on his name, I put a lot of thought into it and finally settled on the character for 'Copper'. Copper isn't gold, but it can shine just as brilliantly, be just as dazzling! But, in the end, it's not gold; it cannot remain untarnished and Immortal forever.
The main focus of Volume Seven, [Brothers], isn't about obtaining the Zihua Cave Mansion. Although the Zihua Cave Mansion is very important for future plot points, what I, Lao Ya, really wanted to describe was the bond between Nie Yun and his brother, Nie Tong.
For his brother's sake, Nie Yun would give up anything. And for his sake, his brother was willing to give up even his life. That is what true brotherhood is.
I actually quite like the character of Nie Tong. He persists for his dreams, gritting his teeth and charging forward no matter how tired he is, never slacking off. He represents a spirit and power that moves forward without ever retreating.
Writing to this point, Nie Tong's death had become inevitable. When I wrote this chapter, I revised it seven or eight times, and my eyes welled up with tears three times. But with the story having developed this far, there was nothing I could change. Nie Tong's death is a huge plot point, and the story will only get more and more exciting from here.
I've seen some readers say this novel is a 'shuangwen'—a power-fantasy story where the protagonist is just too overpowered. Here, I (Lao Ya) would like to explain. In his memories of his past life, Nie Yun reached the Peak of the Floating Heaven Continent. Compared to the Floating Heaven Continent, the Qi Sea Continent is just a tiny pond next to a vast ocean. If an old monster like him, reborn, couldn't even make a splash in a small pond, it would be completely illogical.
It's like throwing a shark into an aquarium; even if the shark isn't that big, there's no way it's going to get bullied by carp and catfish.
The real main stage is actually the Floating Heaven Continent. That is Nie Yun's true battlefield!
Nie Tong is dead, but he died happy because he protected his brother and kept him from harm. In that one instant, his dream and his hope were realized. He died a worthy death.
A good story needs to have its ups and downs. I, Lao Ya, am working hard on the writing and the plot, and I hope to give everyone a unique reading experience.
The story will get more and more exciting from here on out. I hope everyone will continue to support me as always!
I hope you can all support the official version. Because I've been updating more, my subscription numbers have actually plummeted... (sweatdrop). I'm begging you all!
Actually... for this book, the best part of the story... is only just beginning...
There's a separate author's note chapter below with an announcement about a release burst. Please check it out! (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to come to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
