Chapter 14 : This Boss Actually Has a Second Phase
Chapter 14: This Boss Actually Has a Second Phase!
“This damn thing isn’t a bugged map—this boss actually has a second phase.” Staring at the changes on the screen, Jiang Chen couldn’t help but frown.
“This game’s mechanics are kind of outrageous.”
As he spoke, Jiang Chen also felt that the situation had become a bit tricky.
Hearing Jiang Chen’s tone turn serious, Vivian’s heart tightened.
After all, the one controlling her body right now was the Evil God.
Even if it was an Evil God, it was still a god.
Surely even a detestable Evil God wouldn’t be helpless against this monster, right?
The more she thought about it, the more possible it seemed.
That made her grow nervous.
Wait a second...
Immediately afterward, Vivian seemed to think of something.
Why am I even nervous? If this monster defeats the Evil God, maybe the Evil God will leave my body.
Anyway, dying here wouldn’t mean real death, and there was even a chance to get rid of the Evil God.
This was simply a blessing from the heavens.
It might just be a guess, but if there was a possibility, Vivian wanted to try.
Although she had unknowingly been placed on a pedestal, compared to her own life, Vivian still knew what mattered more.
However, while Vivian’s thoughts were running wild—
Jiang Chen, sitting in front of the computer, had already straightened his posture, his expression turning serious.
“What the hell, why is there a second phase?!”
“Damn it, looks like I actually have to get serious!”
Serious? Had the Evil God not been serious before? Vivian thought to herself.
But soon, Vivian relaxed again.
No big problem!
From her observations during this period, Vivian had realized that although the Evil God could control her body, it couldn’t use any power beyond what her body possessed.
Vivian was very clear about what kind of useless weakling she was.
So she wasn’t worried at all that this detestable Evil God had any chance of turning things around.
However, just as Vivian’s thoughts were spiraling—
She suddenly realized her body had moved.
“Boom!”
With a loud explosion, stone spikes erupted from the ground where Vivian had just been standing.
Such fast reaction!
That was Vivian’s first thought.
She hadn’t sensed even the slightest fluctuation of magic just now, yet the attack had already appeared.
Before she could think further, her body shifted again, dodging sideways.
At the same time, Vivian noticed that the cave had completely changed.
The vines that had been drained of life had already turned into ash, and the surrounding rock walls were now covered with spider-like patterns.
At the same time, lamps made from some unknown kind of skin had already been lit, emitting a faint green glow.
And at the center, a massive altar had risen at some point. On the altar stood a monster with the upper body of a human woman and the lower body of a gigantic spider.
This creature, seemingly formed from boiling blood and not yet fully solidified, let out a piercing screech.
“Ro... Ross...” Vivian stuttered.
As an outstanding student from Rose Town, she was all too familiar with the infamous Spider Goddess Ross.
Whether because of its name or some other reason, the town had once been invaded by her followers many years ago. It was said that the Church had sent people and paid a tremendous price to protect the town.
Because of that incident, the townspeople had learned just how terrifying such an Evil God could be.
It was no exaggeration to say that in her hometown, the Spider Goddess could silence a crying child.
Although Vivian was certain this wasn’t the real Ross, even so, it was enough to make fear rise from the depths of her heart.
So why would the Spider Goddess appear in a freshman assessment?!
Jiang Chen had no idea what Vivian was thinking. At this moment, he himself wore a serious expression.
The sounds of rapid clicking from his mouse and keyboard rang out continuously.
His hand speed was so fast it left afterimages.
Especially after he saw the stats of the boss’s second phase—
Spider Goddess Ross (Projection) (Three-Ring)
HP: 34000/34000
A full thirty-four thousand HP—even Jiang Chen felt some pressure.
“But it’s fine. I can still handle it.”
“Whether it’s Odyssey, Devil May Cry, or anything else you can think of or not—I can clear them all easily.”
“This little boss might be a bit difficult, but not by much.”
As he spoke, Jiang Chen saw numerous red circles suddenly appear on the ground, while more red circles appeared in the sky.
These were indicators of the boss’s attack positions.
Many games had similar mechanics—it wasn’t anything strange. The only difference was that in this game, the red circle warnings appeared much faster than in others.
“One step left, two steps forward, one step back.”
On the screen, with a few subtle movements from Vivian, the stone spikes erupting from the ground barely missed her, while the blood-red arrows falling from the sky grazed past her body.
Facing the overwhelming barrage of attacks from Ross’s projection, along with various large-scale abilities, Vivian weaved through them like a dancing spirit.
There wasn’t the slightest hint of panic in her movements—only an indescribable elegance.
“Sorry… I’ve played plenty of bullet-hell games.”
“With this level of bullet density, I can only say—it’s pretty average.”
“Heh, interesting. It can even summon mobs to block movement?”
Seeing the boss begin summoning small spiders, Jiang Chen didn’t panic in the slightest.
Among the bullet-hell games he had played, this level of difficulty could at most be ranked as easy.
……
Meanwhile, Saint Delra Magic Academy, Dean’s Office.
A wall-length dragonbone bookshelf converged in a radial pattern. Ancient books were bound in iron chains, while floating crystal orbs shimmered with starlight. Sitting on a seat carved from the roots of a petrified ancient tree was an elderly man with graying hair and beard.
Lifting a cup of coffee from the obsidian desk, the old man took a light sip before slowly setting it down.
Then, his gaze returned to the book on the desk.
This person was the dean of Saint Delra Magic Academy, Gavin Murdock.
“Sigh…” Looking at the names in the book, Gavin couldn’t help but sigh.
“Although Beatrice has improved quickly, there’s only one year left…”
As he spoke, Gavin shook his head. “I’ve heard those old fellows from other academies have recruited some excellent students this year.”
“Their talent far surpasses what Beatrice had back then.”
As he said this, his face was filled with worry.
But soon, the old dean seemed to think of something. The pages of the book flipped rapidly.
“I remember recently hearing rumors about something called the Empire’s Twin Stars.”
“A couple of days ago, another old fellow even came to ask me specifically about these two.”
The pages stopped turning.
Two names appeared clearly on them.
Vivian Violet.
Lilith Evans.
The old dean didn’t have high expectations for these two.
Especially for so-called geniuses who had been unknown before suddenly rising to fame—he had seen too many of them over the years, and they were basically all fake.
There were always people who thought themselves clever, using this method to promote themselves, but in reality, they were mediocre—or even complete trash.
However, when the old dean saw the name Vivian Violet, his expression subtly changed.
“Rose Town?”
“If I remember correctly, nineteen years ago, that group of lunatics from the Church of Shar—who only had thoughts of destroying the world—were active in that region.”
“They were later wiped out by forces sent by the Empire. I recall that members of the Violet family were also part of the expedition.”
As he spoke, the old dean fell into thought.
“Could this Vivian be from the Violet family?”
But just as the old dean was still puzzled, urgent knocking sounded at the door.
“Dean, something’s wrong! Something happened to the Eternal Tower!”
