Chapter 9 : A Two-Faced God
Chapter 9: A Two-Faced God
As a stage of the freshman entrance assessment, the Eternal Tower required clearing the first three floors to pass, and the difficulty increased with each level.
“The scenarios inside the tower are all simulations of famous monster nests that humans conquered in the past,” Lilith followed behind Vivian, quietly explaining the information she knew.
“Every time you enter a new floor, all your states will be restored to optimal condition. Of course, if you break the fastest clear record for each floor, you can also obtain special rewards from the Eternal Tower.”
Hearing Lilith’s explanation, Jiang Chen nodded. “Not bad. You’ve been somewhat helpful.”
At those words, a hint of joy appeared on Lilith’s face—she wasn’t completely useless after all!
At this moment, a familiar voice sounded in Vivian’s mind.
“Helpful? What help… no creativity at all. As expected of a main quest NPC, just repeating lines. Didn’t the dungeon description already pop up when entering? Did you really need to say it again?”
“Whatever, whatever. Since you’re a main quest NPC, I’ll just casually farm some favorability. Might be useful later.”
Hearing Lord God’s inner complaints, then looking at Lilith who had just been praised, Vivian silently held her forehead.
“Sigh… so this is what Lord God really thinks? That’s way too two-faced!”
Looking at Lilith’s current expression, Vivian felt that if this continued, Lilith would be completely toyed with by this evil Lord God.
“Poor Lilith…” she couldn’t help but think.
But soon, Vivian’s expression stiffened, and she made a tearful face.
“Wuu… it seems like I’m already being toyed with by Lord God too.”
“What’s the current fastest clear time for freshmen?” Jiang Chen suddenly asked.
Lilith thought for a moment. “The Eternal Tower allows up to five people per team. The fastest team should be Senior Beatrice’s group from last year.”
“There are fifty small goblins and one Goblin Chief in the nest. They cleared everything in just one hour.” As she spoke, stars appeared in Lilith’s eyes—it was clear that this Beatrice was very popular in the academy.
Jiang Chen nodded and walked straight toward the cave.
Upon entering the cave, dim torches cast flickering shadows. As far as the eye could see, the ground was coated in thick, sticky grime, scattered with broken bones, rusted weapons, and suspicious pelts.
The air was filled with a foul stench, mixed with mold and the choking smoke of low-quality burning grease.
The moment they entered, Lilith instinctively covered her nose.
Although it was a simulated environment, it was so realistic that there was no flaw at all.
Compared to Lilith, Jiang Chen was much calmer—after all, he couldn’t smell anything.
However, seeing Lilith’s reaction, he still couldn’t help but mentally give the game’s attention to detail a thumbs-up.
“Vivian, I checked some guides earlier. We can enter from the cave on the left ahead. It’s a dead end with five sleeping goblins inside. It’s better to deal with those first,” Lilith suggested softly.
She knew Vivian was strong, but she herself was just a burden.
She didn’t expect Vivian to solo all the goblins. No matter how strong Vivian was, she was still only a First-Ring Mage.
Back then, Senior Beatrice’s team had five First-Ring Mages, and three of them were geniuses who had obtained special classes.
In response to Lilith’s suggestion, Vivian only replied calmly, “Just follow me. I’ll carry you later.”
So confident? Although Lilith had doubts, she still followed closely behind Vivian.
As they ventured deeper into the cave, dripping water, chewing sounds, rustling crawling noises, and short guttural murmurs came from all directions.
The entire space became increasingly hot and suffocating.
Compared to before, Lilith now walked with extreme caution, afraid of alerting anything.
“V-Vivian… do we really have to go like this?” Lilith’s voice trembled slightly.
At this moment, she deeply regretted it.
Regretted following along.
She had originally thought Vivian would start from the outer area and clear the goblins one by one without alerting the rest.
But she hadn’t expected—she had been too naive.
Vivian was heading straight for the Goblin Chief!
“If we get discovered now, we’ll be surrounded by a whole group of goblins!” Lilith complained wildly in her heart, not daring to even breathe loudly for fear of drawing attention.
However, just as her thoughts were racing, Vivian suddenly stopped.
“This should be about the spot.” Jiang Chen spoke while looking at the minimap in the upper-left corner of the screen.
“Here?” Lilith was confused.
But soon, she noticed that at some point, the small satchel she had seen before had appeared at Vivian’s waist.
In an instant, Lilith’s expression turned to horror.
“Don’t tell me…”
She recalled something terrifying.
Then, under Lilith’s gaze, Vivian placed the satchel on the ground.
“So, little Lilith, do you know what to do next?”
“W-what…” Lilith’s voice trembled.
“Of course—”
“Run!!!” Vivian practically shouted the word.
The next moment, her voice echoed throughout the entire cave.
Almost at the same time, all the goblins were awakened and rushed toward them.
Meanwhile, Vivian didn’t even look back, sprinting along the path they came from.
“Wuu… I knew it would be like this!” Lilith also ran with all her might, desperately following behind Vivian.
Jiang Chen stared closely at the red dots moving across the minimap.
“About time…”
“Next—Art is Patrick Star!”
As his words fell, somewhere in the cave, the small satchel placed on the ground suddenly erupted with a dazzling burst of fire.
In the narrow environment of a goblin cave, the explosion’s power was amplified to the extreme.
The goblins rushing in front were instantly engulfed by flames—even the Goblin Chief was no exception.
-HP4300… -HP3800…
Along with a series of red damage numbers, the entire cave began to tremble violently as the rock walls collapsed.
With booming explosions and the crashing of falling rocks, countless goblins were either blown apart or buried.
“Ahhh!! I shouldn’t have followed you!” Screaming, Lilith finally rushed out of the cave.
She turned back, only to see the ground behind them collapsing inward.
Her heart pounded with fear—if she had run even a little slower, she would have been buried too.
Just as Lilith was still stunned, a clear notification sound popped up.
【Congratulations: Your team has successfully cleared the Goblin Nest. Team size: 2. Completion time: 3 minutes 45 seconds.】
【Congratulations: Your team has broken the fastest clear record for the Goblin Nest.】
Especially when Lilith clearly read the notification, she couldn’t help but rub her eyes, almost unable to believe it.
“It’s… already over?”
