Life Simulation: My Talent Is Wool

Chapter 50: The Weight of a Choice

A black horse and a white one.

Each horse was two meters tall and well cared for.

They even looked like those beautiful horses he saw in television commercials.

Although they were Lv1, they were superior to many other animals of the same level.

"Mr. Linco, it was a pleasure doing business with you." Luan shook hands with a somewhat short man, 1.61 m tall.

He had gray hair and a calm smile.

As he shook Luan’s hand, Linco laughed heartily: "Haha, no need to thank me, the pleasure was all mine!"

The sale of the two horses earned him 14 gold coins, how could he not be happy with that?

Although he admits that the horses he sold were excellent, he would hardly find buyers willing to pay that much.

And, besides the two horses, he also bought a double cart from Mr. Linco.

The front part was more elegant, while the back part, still with intrinsic details, was more spacious where their luggage was placed.

The best part of all this was that Luan and Catharina no longer necessarily needed to set up a tent while traveling. The front part of the double carriage was wide enough to place a mattress and sleep, and with the covered area, they didn’t need to worry about the rain.

"Luan, do you know how to drive a cart?" Vanessa asked.

Her question made him realize that he actually didn’t know.

Although he had driven a car before. They were, in fact, two different things. After all, a cart is essentially moved by living horses, it wasn’t like a car that was powered by an engine.

The knowledge he had about being a cart driver was limited to movies, etc.

Even so, he lied: "Yes, I do."

...

The reality of Luan’s lie was that he had a secret weapon: His life on Earth where he could use to learn how to drive a cart while time in the simulation remained frozen.

He could watch videos and even take practical lessons, but in the end, it still relied only on theory. He felt that he needed to have at least some practical lessons, otherwise, although he didn’t think he would put his and Catharina’s lives at risk – since they were Lv2 – he could end up overturning the cart or worse, running someone over due to his lack of control.

One month later, on Earth.

It wasn’t easy to find someone to teach him how to drive a cart.

This wasn’t ancient times and he didn’t live in the countryside where there were still many who used carts instead of cars.

Precisely because of this, he had to take a trip to the northern countryside and learn from a farmer who was kind enough to teach him and not charge too much.

After three weeks of theoretical and practical lessons, he felt he was ready.

"Mr. Jaimes, thank you very much!" Luan shook the man’s hand.

In front of him stood a man in his fifties with gray hair, a bit of a belly, 1.8 m tall and a frighteningly cold expression.

With a cold expression, Jaimes replied as he shook his hand: "Don’t thank me. Now that you’re done, just leave!"

The way he spoke, even the way he shooed him away, was quite rude, but Luan didn’t mind.

After spending a few days with this rough and rude man, he understood that it was just his way.

It didn’t necessarily make him a bad man.

A tsundere adult man over fifty perhaps?

Laughing mentally at his own joke, Luan said goodbye to Mr. Jaimes, getting into a ride-hailing car with the airport as the destination.

...

It was several hours of travel.

When he arrived home, it was already night.

"You’re back!" His mother said when she saw him enter the living room with pleasant surprise stamped on her aged face.

The wrinkles around her eyes became evident when she smiled.

Smiling back, he confirmed: "Mm, I’m back... What’s that smell? Are you making lasagna?"

"Yes, your favorite dish~" She hummed happily: "Although I didn’t know you would arrive in time, good thing I made it!"

He hugged her and kissed her cheek: "Mom, you are fantastic!"

"Haha, stop being silly." She slapped his shoulder when she pulled away from his embrace, scolding him playfully: "Now, go put your things away and see if you take a shower first. When you’re done, everything will already be ready."

"Mm, thanks." Leaving those words behind, he did exactly what she told him.

...

"Eat a little more, you’re so thin..."

There was a convincingly gentle tone in the voice of Amélia, Luan’s mother.

Luan could only give a resigned smile, even full, he still accepted another piece of lasagna.

Seeing him eat everything, Amélia looked at Luan, her eyes filled with unmistakable tenderness.

After dinner, while they were having tea and watching television in the living room, Amélia asked: "Tell me, son, your plans for the future haven’t changed?"

Luan paused with the cup almost reaching his lips.

He understood where that question came from.

He paused, thinking of the best way to answer that question.

Taking a deep breath, he decided not to lie or beat around the bush, trying to deceive her: "Mom... I still want to be a Hunter. But don’t worry, it won’t be now. I won’t act rashly. I will first strengthen myself and, when I am confident, then I will act accordingly."

He held her trembling hand.

"But don’t worry, no matter how confident I become, I wouldn’t dare to put my life at risk out of overconfidence."

Looking into his eyes, Amélia sighed with deep helplessness.

As much as she wanted to support him, she was a mother and couldn’t stop worrying about his safety.

He didn’t know, but whenever he went to explore in the dungeons, she couldn’t even sleep until she had news of him.

"I... I understand." She let those words slip out reluctantly.

In the end, as a mother, she still wished that he would stay in a safe place and not take so many risks, but she also understood that she couldn’t impose her will too much just because she was worried about his safety.

Holding her hand more tightly, he said with confidence: "It will be alright, Mom. Your son is not some vase that breaks easily."

"I know, son, I know..."
