Chapter 40: Who Exactly Is the Boss Here? Another One Appears!
“Mini-Boss?”
Storm Dragon Valley had three branches, so in theory, it had two Mini-Bosses and one final boss.
But bosses normally stayed deeper inside. It was genuinely rare for one to come charging out on its own like this.
Most likely, Ye Ze had killed far too many.
At the mouth of the valley, the broadest road led straight into Thunder Forest. From a distance, it looked like a mountain gorge choked with thunderclouds. But at that moment, a dragon’s roar shook the air.
Twelve draconic figures came streaking out.
At their head was a massive monster well over ten meters in size.
Its scales were a silver-white like living lightning. A pair of wings spread from its back, covered in patterns of crackling thunder, and its eyes glowed a deep blue.
Ye Ze activated Eye of Insight:

That last line was directed at the other students. They understood at once and, led by Liu Qi, retreated over a hundred meters away.

Ye Ze, however, merely stepped back a few paces with Panda.
He directly left this boss to the mantis to fight alone!
When Thunderwing saw Ye Ze retreat, it assumed he was afraid, and its imposing aura surged at once.
“Cowardly human!”
“You slaughtered so many of the Storm Dragon clan’s people, and now you still think you can run?”
But the moment those words left its mouth, a ripple spread through space, and the Crimson-Eyed Mantis appeared before it out of thin air.

Thunderwing jumped in shock. Even it had never seen such an uncanny ability.
But in the very next instant, the shock on its face was replaced by pain.
The Crimson-Eyed Mantis radiated a bloodthirsty presence as it abruptly raised an Arm Blade. A dark-violet fissure of the Void carved across the air like a spatial slash.
Void Slash. In one strike, it severed one of Thunderwing’s wings!
“ROAR—”
It had all happened far too fast. Even with senses and agility like its own, Thunderwing had not reacted in time.
With a miserable scream, it lost its balance and came crashing down from the sky.
More than a hundred meters away, Liu Qi and the other students felt their scalps go numb at the sheer damage of that strike.
A Mini-Boss that could have crippled other first-clear teams had been grievously wounded in a single blow?
And yet that strike had done even more than that.
If the mantis had aimed directly for Thunderwing’s head, it would not have killed it, but the damage would have been even greater.
Instead, the mantis had deliberately cut toward the wing.
Its purpose was to kill the dragonkin guards behind Thunderwing as well!

As a Storm Dragon Commander, Thunderwing naturally had lesser dragons of the Thunder branch under its command.
The dozen or so smaller guards beside a boss like this would have placed enormous pressure on any other first-clear team.
But in front of the Void Mantis, those dragonkin guards had become Thunderwing’s death warrant instead!
At that moment, five dragonkin guards rushed to block the mantis, while the other five moved to protect Thunderwing.
A cruel, metallic chuckle escaped the Void Mantis.
Faced with the charge of five dragonkin guards, it swept out an Arm Blade, and Void Slash carved through the air.
All five dragonkin guards were cut in half at the waist on the spot!

Thunderwing’s own three skills did not even hit that hard, yet their cooldowns were far longer!

From within the mountain gorge, a short, thickset figure charged in from behind the mantis, making the ground tremble.
It was a ground dragon. Its earth-yellow body was wrapped in crackling electricity like a suit of thunder armor, and though its build was squat, its speed was astonishing.
But the mantis’s compound eyes had no blind spots in a full three hundred and sixty degrees.
Even though the ground dragon had attacked from behind, it crashed into empty air the instant it drew close...

The difference was that Thunderwing was a flying dragon, while this Thunderstorm Drake was a ground dragon, and all of its skills were strength-based.
It was exceptionally rare for two Mini-Bosses to join forces like this.
In a Group Dungeon, Mini-Bosses of this level were normally faced by dozens upon dozens of Class Users working together.
And now, these two bosses had joined forces only to fight one person!
Or rather, one summoned beast!
For a moment, the students a hundred meters away felt as though their entire understanding of the world was being overturned again and again.
But Ye Ze was not surprised.
Because Thunderwing’s scream earlier had contained a plea for help.
And that was exactly the outcome Ye Ze had wanted to see.
Primordial Phantom had just come off cooldown as well!
With the 50% cooldown reduction from Battlefield Legend, Panda’s skills recovered quickly too!
The Thunderstorm Drake let out a furious roar.
Then it launched its second attack.
Compared with the other Storm Dragons, the Thunderstorm Drake was only three or four meters tall, which counted as rather small.
But to Panda, the pressure created by that body size was far greater...
That advantage, however, lasted less than a second.

The towering ancient Iron-Eater Beast, nearly ten meters tall, appeared once more!
Faced with the Thunderstorm Drake’s charge, Panda struck out with a single palm... like the heavens themselves sweeping down and crushing everything beneath them!
A terrifying wave of force burst outward in every direction.
That palm, carrying monstrous power, smashed the Thunderstorm Drake straight into the ground!
At the sight of that, the one whose emotions were the most complicated was none other than Thunderwing.
The tiny flicker of hope that had just arisen in its heart was extinguished by Panda’s single palm.
And at that moment, it felt the Void Mantis’s gaze shift back toward it.
Thunderwing’s dragon pupils constricted sharply.
