Chapter 3: The History of Magic, Erebona
After mastering magic, Erebona taught it to the people.
From then on, under her leadership, those who had learned magic gradually became the rulers of this continent.
Later, Erebona gave birth to six children—five sons and one daughter.
As they inherited Erebona’s bloodline, all six possessed extremely high magical talent.
In a short time, they achieved remarkable accomplishments in magic.
At first, they were no different from ordinary people, working hard to build their homeland.
However, as their power grew stronger, their personalities became increasingly extreme. They began to disregard human life entirely.
They would kill at will those with low magical power or those who could not use magic at all.
Eventually, this sparked dissatisfaction among all races.
One day, the strongest individuals from five races stepped forward.
These five powerhouses joined forces and killed all five of Erebona’s sons. The last daughter escaped after being severely injured, disappearing to an unknown place to recover.
From that point on, peace finally descended upon the continent and has continued to this day.
The continent also came under the control of nations established by the strongest of these five races.
These five races were: Humans, Elves, Vampires, Dragons, and Behemoths.
The Human race, to which Ryan belonged, occupied the largest portion of land on the continent and had the greatest population.
The Elves were natural spellcasters and master archers. Both men and women possessed extraordinary beauty.
The Vampires had powerful regenerative abilities and near-eternal lifespans. However, their drawback was the need to regularly consume blood to survive.
The Dragon race were the favored children of the heavens. Their powerful physiques and magical talent granted them immense strength. Their weakness, however, was extremely low fertility—the entire Dragon population numbered only in the hundreds of thousands.
The Behemoths represented pure strength. Each member stood over three meters tall and possessed tremendous power. However, they were not particularly intelligent and preferred to resolve everything through brute force.
Among these five races, the Humans were the most powerful.
This was because the other four races contained a significant amount of human bloodlines.
For example, half-bloods between Humans and Elves, or Humans and Dragons.
Moreover, it was not limited to these four major races—nearly every race on the continent had a considerable number of human hybrids.
When Ryan learned this, he could not help but feel deeply emotional.
Humans were truly… adaptable. There was practically no race they could not accept.
If it were Elves or Vampires—races known for their extraordinary beauty—that would be understandable.
But Dragons…
He clicked his tongue.
Better not think about it!
Next came the classification of magic in this world.
Not everyone possessed the talent to learn magic.
Those who could learn and use magic were called Mages.
Those without magical talent could only grow stronger by training their bodies and honing martial skills.
Naturally, anyone with talent would choose the path of a Mage.
Becoming a warrior was merely a reluctant alternative.
Magical talent and strength were divided into five levels, from weakest to strongest: D, C, B, A, and S.
In theory, if a person had A-rank talent, then their highest possible achievement would be an A-rank Mage.
Ten thousand years ago, the five strongest individuals were S-rank Mages.
However, even among S-rank Mages, there were differences.
Those five were classified as S-rank because that was the highest ranking available—not because their abilities were limited to that level.
Under normal circumstances, 90% of people had no magical talent.
Among the remaining 10% who did, most had talent at D, C, or B rank.
A small number reached A-rank, and only an extremely rare few reached S-rank.
Furthermore, magical talent was determined at birth.
No one had ever been able to improve their magical talent through later effort.
At this point, Ryan came to an understanding.
This world was quite similar to his previous one.
A person’s future achievements were largely determined at the moment of their birth.
Some people spent their entire lives chasing the finish line, while others were born already standing at it.
Compared to his previous world, this one was even more harsh.
Why?
Because in his previous life, there had at least been opportunities like the college entrance examination that allowed ordinary people to change their fate.
But in this world, unless ordinary people took extreme risks, it was nearly impossible to rise in status.
The reason was simple—
Mages only married other Mages. They did not marry ordinary people or warriors.
Through years of observation, people had discovered that the offspring of two Mages were far more likely to possess magical talent than those of a Mage and an ordinary person.
Thus, generation after generation, this pattern continued.
Social classes had long since become rigid.
The children of ordinary people remained ordinary people, destined to labor their entire lives.
There had once been some ordinary individuals who attempted to develop a potion that could grant magical talent, allowing ordinary people to become Mages.
However, they were completely eradicated by noble Mages.
Truly eradicated.
Every researcher and all related materials were wiped out without a trace.
The reason was simple—
A world where everyone could become a Mage was not beneficial to the rule of the existing nobility.
Helping ordinary people?
Letting the rich uplift the poor?
Do not joke.
Those who became powerful first would only cut off all paths for others to grow stronger, maintaining their own advantage.
They would never allow latecomers the chance to stand on equal footing with them.
However, none of this was a problem for Ryan.
Heh.
You are a noble Mage?
How about experiencing true equality?
Whether you are a Mage or a warrior, anyone who stands against Ryan can have a taste of his bullets!
Additionally, magic was divided into offensive magic and support magic.
There were many types of offensive magic, such as fireballs, ice arrows, and wind blades.
Support magic was equally diverse, including healing magic and body enhancement magic.
Incidentally, the orphanage director, Kaya, was a B-rank healing Mage.
Although she could use some offensive magic, it was only enough for self-defense.
Her specialty was healing magic.
People in the town who were injured often came to Kaya for treatment. Afterward, she would charge a fee, using it to sustain the orphanage.
One morning, after lessons had ended, Ryan approached Kaya and looked up at her.
“Aunt Kaya, I have a question. May I ask you?”
Kaya gently stroked Ryan’s head and said warmly, “Ryan is such a diligent and curious child. Go ahead—if I know the answer, I will certainly tell you.”
“Aunt Kaya, I would like you to help me determine whether I have magical talent.”
Hearing Ryan’s clear voice, Kaya’s hand paused slightly.
After a moment—
She slowly said, “I am sorry, Ryan… you do not have magical talent.”
