Chapter 268: The Six Moves
Darion, Garren, and Seren had been training for days now, and Darion had made some impressive progress.
The early morning sessions had become a ritual, a rhythm that anchored his days. Each morning, before the workers stirred in their tents and the castle came alive with the sounds of construction, the three of them gathered in the courtyard.
The sun would just be beginning to rise, casting long shadows across the stone floor, and Darion would be there, sword in hand, ready to learn.
He had now mastered six moves. The sequences were ingrained in his muscle memory, his body responding to them with increasing fluidity.
He could create a golden glow consistently, though the full "finishing move" was still beyond him.
That was the ultimate goal, the culmination of all the sequences, but it remained elusive, just out of reach.
Still, six moves was nothing to be ashamed of. Each one produced a different effect, a different manifestation of the golden light.
Some created ripples, others produced balls of energy, and still others created slashes or waves. The variety was impressive, and Darion was eager to see how each one would perform in a real battle.
One this day, Seren and Garren stood together at the edge of the courtyard, their arms crossed, their expressions expectant.
They had been watching Darion train for days, guiding him through the sequences, correcting his mistakes. Now it was time for him to show them what he had learned.
"Let’s see what you’ve got," Garren said. "All six moves. One after the other."
Seren nodded, her eyes fixed on Darion. "Show us what you can do."
Darion took a deep breath, his grip tightening on the sword. He positioned his feet, his body settling into the familiar stance.
The first move was the simplest, the foundation for everything else. A bunch of leg placements, a shift of weight, and then a strike forward.
He moved through the sequence, his body flowing with the motion. The golden light rippled from the blade, cutting through the air in a powerful wave.
It was bright and strong, the kind of force that would drive a man down. He imagined using it in battle, catching an enemy off guard with the sudden burst of light. It would knock them back, stagger them, give him the opening he needed to finish the fight.
Darion went through the move in his head, thinking about how it would help in battle. An enemy charging at him, confident and aggressive.
A quick shift of his feet, a strike forward, and the golden wave would hit them before they could react. They would be knocked back, disoriented, vulnerable. It would be the perfect opening for a follow-up attack.
The second move was more complex. A quick back placement, then forward, then backward, then a strike.
The motion was fluid, almost like a dance. He moved through it, his body responding to the familiar rhythm. The golden light that emerged was different this time, a medium-sized ball of energy that shot forward, its glow intense and focused.
Seren and Garren nodded in satisfaction. The ball of light was powerful, capable of dealing serious damage to an opponent.
Darion imagined using it in a fight. An enemy trying to close the distance, thinking they had him cornered. A quick backstep, a forward lunge, and the ball of golden light would strike them in the chest, sending them reeling. It would be a devastating attack, one that could turn the tide of a battle.
The third move was more dynamic. A jump, a wave to the right, a wave to the left, then a swerve forward.
The motion was fast, almost acrobatic. He leaped into the air, his body twisting, the sword cutting through the air. A curved golden light emerged, shaped like a sword slash. It was a beautiful attack, its arc wide and deadly.
Darion imagined using it against multiple enemies. A group of foes surrounding him, thinking they had him trapped.
A jump, a twist, and the curved golden light would slash through them, hitting several at once. It would create space, give him room to breathe, and make them think twice about getting too close.
The fourth move was different. A roll, then a swerve straight down. He dropped to the ground, his body rolling, then shot upward, the sword aimed at the sky.
The golden light that erupted was like a hole, a concentrated blast of energy that seemed to bore into the air itself. It was a powerful attack, one that could pierce through armor or defenses.
He thought about how it would help in a fight. An enemy with heavy armor, confident in their protection. A quick roll, a sudden upward strike, and the golden hole would tear through their defenses, leaving them exposed and vulnerable. It was a move that required precision, but the payoff was immense.
The fifth move was a combination of bending and rolling, swerving left, then right, then upward. It was fast, faster than the previous moves.
He moved through it, his body flowing with the motion, the sword cutting through the air. A large golden ball emerged, its glow intense and powerful. It was a devastating attack, one that could take down even the strongest opponent.
He imagined using it against a powerful enemy, the kind that wouldn’t go down easily. A quick series of movements, a burst of speed, and the large golden ball would strike them with immense force. It would be a finishing move, the kind of attack that ended battles.
The sixth and final move was a series of waves, each one building on the last. He moved through the sequence, his body flowing with the motion, the sword cutting through the air.
Five golden waves shot forward, each one more powerful than the last. It was a relentless attack, one that could overwhelm any opponent.
Darion imagined using it in battle. An enemy trying to defend themselves, blocking one wave, then another, then another. But there were too many, each one stronger than the last.
They would be overwhelmed, unable to keep up. It was a devastating attack, one that could end a fight in seconds.
He completed the final sequence, his body coming to a stop. The golden light faded, leaving him standing in the courtyard, his sword held at his side. He was breathing hard, his muscles aching, but he was satisfied.
Garren and Seren nodded, their expressions approving. "That’s good," Garren said. "You’ve mastered the six moves so well."
Darion smiled. "Thanks," he said. "I really put my mind to this."
Then Garren paused, a thoughtful look crossing his face. "You’ve mastered the six moves," he said slowly. "But you’ve only practiced against imaginary enemies. Against the air. It’s time to try this on something real. A moving target or something."
Darion’s eyes widened. A moving target?
