Playing inventor in a cultivation world

Chapter 59: Winter Mission (5)

On Sera’s side, the building she entered seemed to be an administrative building.

There were crude offices inside, with some men and women sitting behind desks and scribbling down things she couldn’t read.

’This place is really a base.’

She thought coldly, her arms crossed.

Suddenly, a lean guy with a short height entered the building, dark circles under his eyes.

At first, Sera thought he was just a random bandit, until she saw the way the atmosphere changed when he entered.

The murmurings died instantly, and everyone turned to look at him with serious expressions.

"Boss Lin."

Someone stepped forward, cupping his fists and kneeling immediately.

The lean young man looked around, seemingly counting them one by one.

Then, he frowned. "There are only thirteen people here. Why am I feeling fourteen gazes on me?"

Instantly, Sera’s caution and surprise rose to the peak.

’He can sense my gaze? How is that even possible?’

The young man turned around, his murky yellow eyes glancing around as if to spot something.

Sera immediately looked away from him, even retreating towards the door.

Sensing that the gaze had disappeared, the young man stopped searching.

There was still a frown on his pale face.

"Inform the others to be alert. We’re being watched again."

The moment one of the bandits left the room, Sera followed. She couldn’t risk exposing herself, and she had to warn the others if possible.

Following the messanger, Sera reached another building different from the one she had entered.

’How do I even see the others?’

However, it wasn’t hard at all.

She could see Dera, running and bleeding.

’What?’

Her eyes widened in surprise, and she saw the huge man chasing after her sister.

’A Peak Advanced Stage cultivator!’

Realizing this, she immediately hid by, then threw her sickle at the man.

Not expecting that, the big man was forced to divert his attention. He barely reacted, blocking the sickle and losing a finger.

"Argh! You brat! What did you do?!"

Thinking it was Dera’s trick, he bellowed furiously, his eyes blazing with anger.

From his waist, he pulled out a short axe, then threw it at the fleeing girl.

Sera’s eyes widened, and she immediately threw another weapon from her storage ring to intercept the attack.

This finally made the man realize that there was another hidden rat.

"Two of you?! Fine!"

Taking a whistle from the pocket of his apron, he blew it fiercely.

A loud, alarming sound was produced, alerting everyone in the base.

Sera’s expression darkened instantly.

Dispelling the invisibility talisman, she took out a bow and fired three consecutive arrows at the man.

Still caught off guard, he managed to block two, while the last one struck his shoulder painfully.

"You!"

Sera didn’t wait for him. She immediately dashed to her sister, supporting her and helping her run faster.

"How the hell did you get caught and injured?"

Unlike her usual self, Dera smiled bitterly.

"It’s a long story. Let’s escape first."

Sera frowned, but agreed. Supporting Dera, she headed for a section of the wall where they could easily climb over and escape.

Behind them, she could already hear the sound of the other bandits chasing after them.

"Hmph!"

Snorting coldly, she turned a corner and barricaded the way with a wall of thick ice.

A few seconds later, she could hear weapons and fireballs crashing into the wall, breaking and eventually shattering it.

Sera and Dera continued to run.

’Senior Brother, Ariana, and Tamar should have been alerted too.’

Finally reaching the walls, she hoisted Dera onto her back.

"Hold tight."

Beneath her feet, she created a pillar of ice that pushed her towards the top of the wall. It was much more convenient than scaling the walls herself.

"They’re trying to escape through the walls, stop them!"

An angry voice shouted from the midst of their pursuers.

The next thing she knew, a lightning bolt struck the ice pillar, shattering it immediately.

Sera lost her footing, immediately latching onto a jagged stone on the wall. When she looked back, she realized it was the lean young man who sensed her gaze, that had shattered her ice pillar.

A trace of anger slipped into her expressy, but she didn’t let it cloud her judgement.

She immediately refocused on climbing, building another ice platform to stand, then climbed up the walls.

"Leave her to me."

The young man said, then lowered himself slightly.

He jumped into the air, shooting straight for the twins.

Before he could reach them, however, a water dragon slammed into him from the side.

"Senior Sisters!"

Ariana’s youthful voice rang out as she ran along the fence, heading straight for the twins.

As for the young man, he was caught off guard midair, and fell to the ground.

Landing on his two feet, he looked at the three kids atop the walls and smiled cruelly.

"Where do you think you’re going?"

He raised both hands, then fired tens of thin lightning bolts at them.

Dera, using the strength she could muster, created an ice shield that protected them.

However, it was shattered instantly without resistance, and a lightning bolt reached towards the two sisters.

"Seraphim Sword: First Form—Split the Solid."

Ariana got between them, executing the simple sword style and cutting through the lightning bolt.

It was instantly diverted, spreading apart and shooting into the sky in halves.

Ariana was stunned, her whole body shaking from the lightning currents as she fell off the wall.

"Ariana!"

Sera and Dera screamed in unison, immediately jumping after her.

However, the girl, affected by the shock, fell faster.

The twins couldn’t reach her in time.

Watching as she fell closer to the ground, they both had the same thought.

’She’ll die!’

Surprisingly, Tamar suddenly appeared, using the earth as a skateboard and sliding right below the stiff Ariana.

They both tumbled to the ground, but Tamar was able to control the earth to dull the impact of their fall.

Sera sighed in relief, then created a slow water tornado for her and her sister to fall into. They were thrown to the ground roughly, but they weren’t injured.

Before they could be relieved, Tamar hastily rolled to the side.

A fireball slammed into the ground she was laid on, scorching it instantly.

It seemed the bandits had also climbed the walls after them.

Tamar and Sera rose to their feet, carrying Ariana and Dera respectively.

They fled.

The bandits poured out from the gates too, curving around the walls and heading towards them.

"Kill! Kill those brats!"

Several fireballs rose into the evening sky, raining down on the four girls like arrows.

Before the attack could reach them, someone intercepted with a large metal fan.

"Senior Brother!"

Fellin had also escaped, and he looked unharmed.

His attack caused the fireballs to freeze midair and drop to the ground like iceballs.

He immediately followed after the four of them, heading towards the woods.

"What happened?"

He was still in the middle of checking the second building when he heard the whistle and the sudden commotion.

"No time to explain! Let’s get out of here!"

Sera shouted back, a frustrated expression on her face.

Dera had already fallen unconscious due to blood loss, so she was very worried.

Sensing the enemies still pursuing them, Fellin stopped and turned back.

"Leave!"

He swung his fan sharply, and shards of ice rose from the ground, spreading in an arc and stabbing into the weaker bandits at the front.

The stronger ones were able to protect themselves, but the biting cold made them halt.

"Such power!" Someone exclaimed.

Meanwhile, Fellin and the others retreated further into the woods, escaping from the bandit base as fast as they could.

Reaching the large ice barrier with deadly icicles, the lean young man paused.

His yellow eyes looked at the dead bodies of some bandits, and he scowled.

"Useless! You all couldn’t even catch a few kids!"

Lightning sparked from his body, sizzling the ground around him.

The huge man that had been chasing Dera appeared shortly after.

Seeing the barricade, he sighed, then patted the young man’s shoulder.

"Don’t worry, the forest is very dangerous. I’m sure they won’t escape tonight. After all, their bleeding mate would be an attraction to the bloodhounds."

Hearing this, the young man finally showed some relief.

"Fine. But we must inform the Dark Lord about this."

"You’re right." The man nodded, his smile gone. "Those kids are from the Soul Cross Sect. It seems they’re finally going to take us seriously now."

Turning away, the ice barricade, the young man frowned.

"Those guys are really annoying and persistent. If they learn of our base, then it’ll be hard escaping from their clutches."

The large man nodded, then turned to the other bandits.

"Spread out into the forest and search for them. No need to bring them back alive. Kill them as soon as you see them."

The bandits complied immediately, scattering away to carry out his orders.

"Well then, let’s go inform the Dark Lord."
