Chapter 57: Winter Mission (3)

Minutes later, the last bandit’s corpse dropped to the ground.

Dera was covered in his blood, a chilling smile on her face.

She turned to Fellin, her smile receding.

"Did you hear? Their base is in the heart of the forest. Now’s the best time to strike since they only go for missions at night."

The white-haired young man sighed, took a handkerchief from his robes, then gently wiped the blood off her face.

"It’s alright. We’ll be heading there now."

Ariana and Tamar nodded, taking sneaky glances at the dismembered corpse.

The man had surely suffered before dying.

"What are you waiting for then? Let’s go."

Seraph scowled, marching forward without waiting for anyone.

"Sera! Don’t leave me behind!"

Dera complained, then rushed off to meet her.

The others immediately followed after them.

Just as Tamar had explained to them, the forest was large and dangerous—filled with wild spirit beasts and deadly serpents.

The group of five headed to the center of the forest, trying their best to avoid engaging the spirit beasts.

Unfortunately, that was impossible. In less than fifteen minutes, they were detected and pursued by a pack of hungry thunder wolves.

The thunder wolves chased after them relentlessly, their growls growing closer behind them.

At the forefront of the team, Fellin’s eyes narrowed.

"All Advanced Stage spirit beasts... this is concerning."

He immediately ordered the group to stop, then turned around to face the pack.

"Do not let them surround us. Eliminate any one that tries to."

The twins grinned, while Tamar and Ariana unsheathed their blades.

Soon, the wolves appeared, their yellow eyes glowing with malice.

The wolves had very dark fur, with white fur shaped like lightning stripes running down their spine.

"Oh..."

Tamar closed her eyes, raising her hands slowly.

The ground trembled, and spikes suddenly burst from the ground.

The wolves that had been spreading out to surround them instantly retreated, with some carrying injuries on their bodies.

Tamar didn’t stop there. She continued creating spikes until they formed a fence around them, leaving only the front space open.

The wolves grew cautious, but were eventually overwhelmed by their hunger for flesh.

"Over twenty of them. Be careful."

Fellin warned, then snapped open his metal fan.

The next moment, he became a blur of white.

A wolf’s head was suddenly severed, falling to the ground with its eyes wide. Blood spurted from the neck like a fountain, and the body collapsed seconds later.

The twins moved next.

Dera received a hammer from her sister, then smashed it on the chest of one thunder wolf.

There was a cracking sound, and the the creature was crushed, its ribs caving in that it touched the spine.

Utterly broken and rendered useless, the wolf was sent flying. Beside her, Sera appeared with her sickle again, stabbing into the ribcage of a wolf.

Her attack directly pierced through its heart, killing it immediately.

"Ah..."

She gasped, shivering as she felt the blood flowing on her hands.

Tamar looked at the twins with a weirded expression, then turned to Ariana.

"Stay with me."

The silver-haired girl nodded, then followed her into battle.

Tamar swung her sword, but the wolf raised its front legs and dodged.

Unfortunately, that was its mistake.

The next moment, the earth around its hind legs softened, then solidified.

It was trapped. Before it could lower its front legs and try to break free, another spike came from the ground and stabbed directly into its belly.

The wolf howled in pain, hanging helplessly.

Its howl was abruptly cut off when Ariana sent an ice spike through its mouth.

Before it could recover, her sword had beheaded it.

Fellin charged into the middle of their ranks, taking out the strong ones and searching for their alpha.

’It should be here... with them.’

However, he was wrong.

The alpha wasn’t among the wolves.

’Wait...’

Fellin frowned, taking a look at the surroundings. Instantly, his eyes locked onto a hulking figure in the darkness.

The red eyes, steamy breath, and black fur didn’t need an explanation.

’That’s the alpha. I should take care of it.’

Turning his head slightly, he was appalled by the carnage being caused by the twins.

Smiling bitterly as he killed another wolf, he left a warning.

"I’ll be leaving shortly. You all should be careful."

With that, he snapped his fan close, then jumped out of the wolves encirclement.

Dera and Sera immediately got excited, attacking the wolves more viciously.

The two girls repeatedly created ice spikes, shooting them into the eyes of the wolves around them.

Ariana’s expression hardened as she pushed back against the tyrannical strength of a thunder wolf.

Tamar was being besieged by three wolves, so she couldn’t lend a hand.

’Big Brother always says... don’t rely on others. Build your own strength.’

Glaring at the wolf, she created two water dragons, then sent them to attack the wolf.

It was instantly bitten on both shoulders, howling in pain and lashing out angrily.

The dragons sustained damage and eventually broke apart, by Ariana wasn’t really concerned.

Before the wolf could regain its bearings, she appeared beside it, her sword already sinking into its flesh.

The wolf twitched sharply, howled, stiffened, then fell to the ground.

Holding the hilt of her sword tightly, she created several water blades, then fired them at the remaining wolves.

’Since I can’t kill them easily, I’ll weaken them first!’

There was an immediate reaction to her actions, as the wolves turned their attention to her.

’Oops.’

She involuntarily took a step back, then stood firmly.

Her sword was returned into its sheath, only to be pulled out slightly again.

"Seraphim Sword: First Form—Split the Solid."

The sword was drawn, passing through something tangible smoothly—and the next moment, the leading wolf was sliced apart, falling to the ground in halves.

’Aha! Big Brother’s techniques are really the best! Hehe.’

Sera, paying attention to the girl, was surprised and shocked, her eyes narrowing.

’A Peak Beginner Stage Cultivator? Really?’

Dera read her sister’s expression and grinned.

"Heh, she’s strong. I’m sure you didn’t expect that."

Sera snorted, turning her attention to the injured wolf that was trying to retreat from her.

She threw her sickle, directly stabbing into the skull and killing it.

"These wolves are strong. But they haven’t been able to use their best abilities—speed."

Dera nodded, throwing a grateful glance at Tamar.

"If that girl hadn’t blocked their paths, we would have been surrounded and harassed."

Sera nodded reluctantly, then looked into the distance as she felt a tremor beneath her feet.

"Looks like Fellin has found their leader."

Not far from where the girls and the wolves fought, Fellin stopped before the Alpha Thunder Wolf, his gaze cautious.

It stood tall, taller than him.

Its sharp red eyes stared down at him with curiosity, then it growled.

Fellin’s expression hardened.

’I see. It has just become an Initial Master Stage spirit beast, and is trying to increase the level of its pack too.’

That explained the great difference in their levels and size.

’Tamar is right. This forest is really dangerous.’

Holding his fan tightly, Fellin dashed at the wolf.

His speed was fast, but it reacted faster. The moment he charged at it, a clawed paw came swinging at his face.

Fellin immediately halted, jumping back to evade it.

The ground was shredded where the claws raked, proving their lethality.

’Oh well...’

Smiling faintly, Fellin did a few hand signs, then threw his fan into the air.

Ice flowers bloomed behind him, slowly rotating until they became deadly spinning blades.

He sent the flowers forward, catching his fan, which had now elongated and was as big as his torso.

The wolf dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the ice flowers.

However, Fellin appeared before it, his large fan slashing at its torso.

The attack connected successfully, shredding some skin and making it bleed.

However, the injury wasn’t that deep.

The wolf growled, clamping its jaws on the fan, as if to break it.

Fellin immediately tried to pull it away, but his strength was insufficient.

’Huh...’

Frowning slightly, he pulled tightly, locking the wolf’s head in place.

The next moment, he suddenly struck its eyes with large ice spikes.

The wolf reacted fast, but not fast enough.

One eyelid blocked a spike, but the other eye was instantly pierced by the spike.

Howl~!

Its pained howl shook the forest as it retreated, crashing into the trees behind it.

While it was shaking its head and trying to regain its vision, Fellin closed in with a smile.

Four large icicles stabbed into its shoulders and thighs, spreading frost along its fur.

The wolf stumbled, overwhelmed.

The pain from losing an eye and the biting cold from the icicles were just too agonizing.

Fellin didn’t stop there.

Using his enlarged fan, he slashed at its fore-ankles, severing muscles and tendons.

Howling again, the wolf stumbled, struggling to stay on its feet. Its other eye opened, glaring at Fellin in rage.

It even swiped at him, eager to crush the human.

However, that only affected its balance, and it fell to the ground, sending out a tremor.

Immobilized and helpless, the wolf’s fate was already sealed.

Fellin raised his weapon, then brought it down.
