Playing inventor in a cultivation world

Chapter 52: Light up the building

["Hmm. Looks like you have learnt to be courteous. Not bad."]

Rolling his eyes, Seraph asked inwardly.

’Well then, care to explain how I suddenly became older?’

Halo went silent, then answered in a serious tone.

["That guy you fought—the big one—had poisoned you with death energy."]

Seraph paused, his eyes widening. ’Death energy? He had an affinity for that?’

["Yes. I could have used your affinity for life element to erase it, but you haven’t awakened that yet. So I had to use your life force instead."]

"Oh..."

Seraph blinked in realization, looking at his calloused hands. This was the reason for his abrupt aging. His lifespan was shortened to save his life.

’Hm, this is a really useful method. That means as long as I still have lots of life force, I can be healed repeatedly.’

Halo sighed in disappointment. ["You’re right. But how many years do you think you have? Your Advanced Stage Cultivation only gives you about 150 years to live. Fortunately, your aptitude isn’t limited, so you can become even stronger and have a longer lifespan."]

Seraph shrugged nonchalantly as he walked. "I guessed so."

Finally, he arrived at the warehouse at the bottom of the mountain.

It was huge, old, and looking unkempt.

"Hmm..."

Walking through the open door, he spotted an attendant laying on his desk, fast asleep.

Seraph gave him a blank stare, then knocked the table softly.

The young man was instantly awakened, his wide eyes staring at Seraph like he was a ghost.

Not interested in a staring contest, Seraph dropped the paper given to him by the old man, then said.

"From the Mission Hall. Please be quick."

The young man stretched lazily, grabbed the paper, and went through the list.

Giving Seraph a weird glance, he walked around the storage room, gathering the materials on the list.

When he was done, he placed everything into a storage ring and passed it to Seraph.

’Hm?’

Although he was unfamiliar with a storage ring, Seraph easily checked the content with his spirit sense.

["Everything is ready. Go change your clothes and get to work."]

Seraph nodded, then left the warehouse. Climbing up the mountain to the residential area was stressful, but he eventually arrived at the Outer Court dormitory.

There was someone waiting for him.

"Senior Sister Sylvia?"

The girl turned to him, then froze. Her eyes went from his face, to his shoulders, his waist, his legs, then back to his face.

There was bewilderment written all over her face.

"Junior Brother?"

Understanding why she reacted this way, Seraph gave a wry smile.

"Well... strange things happened, I guess."

Anyone who knew him before would definitely be surprised by his abrupt growth spurt.

Clearing her throat, Sylvia frowned faintly.

"Whatever. Elder Song asked me to bring you for the Inner Court Disciple Examination whenever you’re ready."

Seraph raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"She did that? Hmm, okay."

He sighed, then thought briefly. In the end, he shook his head.

"I’m very tired today, and I would like to rest. Can we make it tomorrow?"

Sylvia folder her arms and nodded. "I’ll agree since you’re just returning from your mission."

She turned around and began walking away.

"Tomorrow it is, then. Be early."

Seraph sighed and nodded, then went up to his room.

Firstly, he removed his disciple robes, then took a warm bath.

Still feeling the heat clinging to his skin, he put on some casual clothes, then prepared to start his work.

Looking around the room, he decided a suitable spot to place the light bulb he was about to create.

Injecting his spiritual energy into the storage ring, he brought out the materials he had procured from the warehouse.

Everything was ready.

Already having some forging materials from his clan, he immediately cut the flat Megan metal plates into thin wires enough to conduct electricity.

Then, he easily procured a handy can, pouring the corrosive spirit fluid into it. Thankfully, the can was durable enough and wouldn’t rust from the content’s corrosive nature.

Connecting the wires into the luminous spirit orb, he hooked two nails to the wall, then gently placed the orb on them.

It was perfectly balanced.

Using another nail to create a stand for the can of corrosive fluid, he placed it at a close distance to the orb.

["You should seal the can so you don’t accidentally dip your hand inside at night."]

Halo warned.

Seraph merely rolled his eyes in return. "I know that already."

Picking up the cover, he drilled two thin holes into it, then sealed the can.

Picking up the wires connected to the luminous spirit orb, he wrapped them in rubber material until they were completely covered.

’Almost done, man.’

Smiling to himself, Seraph dipped the exposed ends of the two wires into the drilled holes on the can.

Instantly, the room was lit up by a bright white light.

Grinning at his own work, he removed the wires from the can, turning it off.

"I can still make a few more. Let’s see... I should light up the hallway and the stairs."

Feeling energized, he immediately got to work.

Creating more metal wires and coating them in rubber was stressful, but it only took him some time. Then, after connecting the wires to their respective bulbs, he began setting them up.

He set up three light bulbs in the hallway, then put two down the stairs.

Finally, his work was done.

Staring at the furnished room and hallway, Seraph felt genuine appreciation of his own work.

"Is this one of the feelings you deny me of, Halo? It is refreshing."

Smiling, he pressed a palm to his chest and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.

Exhaling calmly, he felt his stomach grumble in protest.

"Oh dear..."

He smiled bitterly, then went to take a quick shower.

Changing into another pair of clothes, he left the dormitory and went straight to the cafeteria.

Although he had eaten quite a lot at the Valmere City Lord’s banquet, his stomach still wanted more.

Therefore, he decided to get himself a heavy meal at the cafeteria.

Surprisingly, he encountered an old acquaintance at the cafeteria.
