Chapter 38: Labour
It had been weeks. The further the days passed, the bigger her belly grew. Mira spent most of her time organising a space in Jia Hao’s home for a nursery for her child.
She had ensured most of everything was provided. All she and Jia Hao needed now was to make this stone carved place more lion cubs proof than it already was. Mira had the entire interior walls of the nursery covered with fur. That cost a fortune but nothing too expensive that the Lion King could not afford. Every damn furniture inside the nursery was also laced with fur to ensure the brute edges of the stone walls and floors and carved indoor play ground was baby safe. She may have outdone herself with overthinking and overworked the lions in charge of the task but this was going to be her first time being a mother and she wanted it to go perfectly.
She had no rule book outside what she knew on earth to guide her through the process of pre motherhood and post motherhood so she did the best that she could in her own way even though beast and human babies were entirely different and probably needed different care and needs. The old owner of this body was never allowed to be with and around pregnant women for current Mira to have any insight on what she was supposed to be or what she was supposed to do. So this was Mira trying her best to not be a failure and so far, staring at the nursery she built with the help of system shop’s beast world interior guide to fit modern day standards, she was proud of her hard work. Well, her mental work, the lions did all the hard stuff. She just bossed them around with demands while they worked their butts off to build and make the things she needed available.
Mira chuckled, sighing. After all that effort she could finally breathe. She would be a mother soon and it was so surreal, she almost could not believe it and if she did not have the constant stomach growth and pregnancy symptoms she would doubt this reality.
Mira walked inside the nursery. The ground was soft, way softer than the hard floor she had walked on since she arrived here. Everything looked perfect. Everything would be oka-
It hit her like a painful hurricane. Mira’s stomach hurt like it was going to explode, cutting her thoughts off. It had been weeks since Ming Tao left and Mira knew she was due for childbirth but she did not know the exact day it would happen and the pain tearing at her stomach due to contraction answered the question she feared during this time of planning and preparing. She was about to birth a baby.
"JIA HAOOOO!!" Mira screamed, her voice cracking through the air like a painful, chaotic disharmony. Mira muffled heavy pants, struggling so hard to breathe.
She had been put on bed rest during these last few days but the one time she decided to take a walk and adore her hard work with the nursery was when the baby knew it wanted to burst out her pussy.
What a ridiculously stupid timing! Mira blurted in her mind.
"JIA H. . . AOOO!" Mira managed to shout with her body falling to the ground. She looked for something to hold onto to keep her from dropping. Her eyes rested on the crib and she made her way to it slowly with her legs spread wide.
It hurt. Like a crazy bitch, it hurt so damn much.
"SOMEE, I AM ABOUT TO GIVE BIRTH!!" Mira screamed at the top of her lungs when no one came. Mira was panting hard. Her head ached and her stamina was slipping. Her grip on the fur skin which laced around the wood-made crib tightened and loosened with each contraction that tormented her.
She had not even started pushing the baby out yet she felt like she was about to die. "SOMEBODY BETTER GET THEIR ASS HERE RIGHT NOW OR I SWEAR!!" Her scream was muffled. An agonised groan left her lips after that statement.
Mira puffed sharp, short breaths of air out her mouth. The contraction was getting worse. All her life, she thought animal labour was easier because of casually they pooped out babies but facing it right now felt like she was about to run mad.
In conclusion, no birth was easy. Mira screamed again. Her vision blurred with her own sweat as her knees began to buckle, forcing her to the ground.
Someone gushed into the room, panic settling in his head. "Mira!" The person screamed. It was Jia Hao.
Oh, thank God! Mira exclaimed in her mind. A saviour finally waltzed through that door.
"Mira!" Jia Hao called again, softer this time and ran to meet her on the floor. His mind was disoriented. He did not know what to do. He did not know what part of her was okay to touch in her vulnerable state.
Mira’s water broke. Fluid gushed down her legs, soaking the ground beneath her. "No!" She panted, her voice an agonising whisper. "Not the fur carpet." She said.
Jia Hao blanked for a second. This woman was in labour and she had time to think about a fur carpet? He did not know whether to be glad that his Mira still had her humour or be worried but one thing he knew was that he needed to get her out of here. And quickly. Jia Hao put a hand at the back of Mira’s knees and on her back, lifting her up gently.
Mira’s fingers clenched on his fur coat as she screamed. It was excruciating. The kind of pain that made you wish for death. "Jia Hao. . ." Mira panted, her brain shutting down at the unbearable pain. Jia Hao was running, heading down the path that led to the room they prepared specifically for her labour. "I don’t think I can. . . ." Mira worded, her voice drifting into a quiet silence.
