Chapter 29: Why did her lips feel so nice?
There it was, the anger she did not expect to surge resurfacing in her mind. Hye Yang was gone but she left with a little gift.
Pest infestation. A freaking pest infestation.
[To be accurate, it was you who caused the infestation in the first place. You should’ve known better considering your level of intellect, host.]
REALLY? YOU THINK I DO NOT KNOW THAT? The WHOLE point of the infestation in the first place was to chase the skulk away and one place they would’ve run into was water, the closest pond, and Mira had already laced it with cedar wood oil. Don’t ask how she got that, the old Mira was shockingly as evil as people said and had those hidden everywhere to torture beast men but this Mira already had the entire plan covered till Jia Hao showed his ugly, sexy butt and changed that.
Ugh, this was so infuriating. Could she not just get one night without having to worry about anything? Just one night. Preferably one after a good fuck. Between her legs panged with ache yet she had to walk because the one thing she WOULD NOT tolerate along with being in a forest habitat was insects. And with so many furry animals present, that would spread quickly.
The last thing Mira needed was people hating her more over an outbreak. Why on earth was everything so chaotic and messy?
"Mira, come back to our bed chambers, we can do this in the morning." Jia Hao called, following behind her.
She almost lost her mind hearing that. By tomorrow, it would already be too late. "Where did you and Ming Tao put the foxes’ property when you knew it was tampered with?" Mira asked.
"Ming Tao took care of most of it. He had the quarters sprayed with oil that would harm nothing but the pests and discarded everything in a pond."
At least Ming Tao got some things right, he found the oil jars hiding place and took care of it, Mira thought. "And he ensured the insects did not even spill outside their properties?" Mira questioned.
"He had most of them burned." Jia Hao responded.
Once again, Ming Tao was smart.
"And no one else came out to spy or figure out what he was doing during that time? No one at all? No cub nor animals anywhere?" Or scheming foxes under her sister’s regime.
"None that I am aware of." Jia Hao replied. From his tone, Mira could tell that he did not know.
So what that meant was there could be squirrels or chickens nearby carrying insects in their bodies and paroling around and in that time, the baby lions who could not keep their feet in one place and probably practiced their hunting game could have met a few of those animals. And the insects could’ve gotten in their hairs. And cubs play with each other.
Mira was hyperventilating. She was either overthinking the worst possible scenario or her overthinking was what could be happening this very moment without her knowledge. Whichever it was, it was not good. She made her way forward, stomping her feet loudly on the ground when it occurred that she had no idea where she was going.
If Jia Hao took care of the pests like they said, then there would be no need heading to the same location of infestation. It would be spotless, hopefully, so now, only one person was the missing piece in the puzzle. "Where the hell is Ming Tao?!" Mira ranted.
"Here." Ming Tao said, making his presence known from the shadows casted from the trees due to moonlight. Was he lurking all along? Has he always been following her since she arrived?
"Well aren’t you a creepy one." Mira said. Ming Tao had his brow raised. His arms were folded across his chest as he leaned on a tall tree trunk.
Right. She was not close to him yet. "Why are you following me? For someone who doesn’t seem to like me, you sure are everywhere I am." Mira charged.
Ming Tao discarded her words with a scoff and turned to face Jia Hao. "You still believe this demon has changed, huh?"
Mira chewed her inner cheeks. She had to admit, being ignored was a slap on her face. Especially when she got a lot of attention from her big kitty.
"Hey! I am talking to you!" Mira walked towards Ming Tao and poked a finger on his bare chest. Ming Tao’s eyes widened. He could smell her. He loved her scent and he hated it. Instead of him giving her the reaction that she craved, he took a step back then swung to the side and walked past her to meet Jia Hao, all in a swift motion.
"Why have you come searching for me, Jia Hao, miss my company already? Or has the lady with your child proven to be exactly what I said she was already?" Ming Tao smirked.
Jia Hao sighed. One thing he knew for sure was that he was not getting involved with these two’s situation. Not when he knew Ming Tao needed to find his own salvation himself and not when Mira was pregnant. His mate was ferocious when pregnant and Jia Hao feared what may become of Ming Tao if he kept this up.
"Mira needed to make inquiry of the insects situation." Jia Hao said.
"Took her long enough." Ming Tao sing-songed. He raised both his hands and rested it behind his head, hopping calmly in a zig zag in front Jia Hao. "I took care of it. You need not worry. I have a habit of taking care of all your messes anyway, demon."
Mira’s eyes twitched. The last thing on her mind at this moment was what Ming Tao said and more about what he did. She came out of the comfort of the lion king’s cuddle, left his chambers, interrupted what would have been a perfectly good day end and a good fuck to meet this man all to be ignored?
That was it. Mira did not know when her hand swung up in the air but the sound it made as it landed on something solid was satisfying.
Gong!
It made just that, like hitting a hollow floor or a coconut.
"Of course your head sounds like a coconut, it’s empty! All you have up there is water, you annoying fuck!" Her hand made its way to his head again, smacking harder.
Jia Hao’s eyes glimmered. Ming Tao could not believe what just happened. She. . . Hit him. And this was not the first time but this one hit differently.
"Excuse you?" His voice was raised as his hand replaced the back of his head where her hand hit.
"No! You excuse you! I am pregnant and I am tired. After an exhausting day of trying to survive for not just one but two lion babies and an entire tribe, I am far from exhausted. So the least you can do to this woman with child is not be a whiny baby, skinny cat!"
Skinny cat?! Whiny baby?! Who did this demon think she was talking to?
Mira held her finger up till it rested at the centre of his face. Ming Tao shifted his pupils to meet at the start of his eyes joined to his nose to single out her finger before him.
"You better not scratch your head or a single body part in front of me or come near me! If any of those bugs even as much as smell my presence," Mira held up her second hand and smacked it with her other hand. "That will be me to your head." She worded.
Ming Tao knew this before but now he just confirmed it. This demon was crazy and Jia Hao was too for falling for her. He still could not believe she hit him.
"Let’s go, my king." Mira addressed Jia Hao and walked past Ming Tao. She paused. Walked back to Ming Tao and gave him a peck on the cheek.
Ming Tao shrieked like a lizard just crawled over his body. Mira walked back to Jia Hao. "Let’s go now." She said again then followed him by his side.
Ming Tao stared at their retreating bodies as his hand reached for the cheek Mira kissed. He used a forceful back and forth movement to rub it off. But then. . . . Why did her lips feel so nice?
