Chapter 57: [057] One Million Experience Points
Dozens of red-hued notifications flashed before his eyes, warning him about the critical situation of his villagers, who were currently passed out on the ground.
Ignoring the notifications, he opened his inventory and accessed the healing potions he had purchased beforehand, as he had already expected a little casualties.
He reached them quickly.
The children were gasping for breath. The adults were coughing out mouthfuls of blood painfully, their expressions unnaturally pale and strained.
He began to administer the healing potions one after the other without delay.
He healed the children first before attending to the others.
He also healed two soldiers from Blackstone, as well as the elder who came with them. He ignored the remaining eighteen; after all, they were his enemies from the beginning.
As the healing potions took effect, one after another, his villagers began to wake up slowly.
The injuries on their mouths were still present, but the pain was no longer as intense as before.
Their health points had also returned to their peak state.
Jabba and Anton were the first to fully regain themselves. After all, they were both level 10 humans.
They stood up gradually, observing the aftermath of the battle between their chief and the calamity that no one had ever been able to defeat.
The moon hung in the sky, casting its light over the messy and devastated area, indicating that intense combat had taken place. They could see multiple deep dents carved into the ground, yet they could not tell if it was the power of the calamity or their chief that had caused such destruction.
Their eyes soon landed on the headless corpse of a towering bird-like monster, unmistakably the Night Laugher, judging by the creepy yet amused expression frozen on its detached head lying on the ground.
They turned to Floki, who was currently rebinding the soldiers he had just healed, ensuring they would not escape.
The two brothers were left speechless as they stared at his back, which was turned toward them.
Floki finally completed his task and turned to meet the gaze of the two brothers.
"Y-you defeated it?"
They said, their voices filled with wonder and disbelief.
Sure, it was obvious what he had done, yet they still found it difficult to believe.
Floki nodded with a serious expression on his face.
"Take everyone back to their huts. They are still very weak to walk on their own. Report to me once you are done. We have something important to do."
The two of them stared at him for a while before finally adhering to his instructions.
Once they left, Floki strode toward the headless calamity, whose torso continued to ooze dark blue blood.
He briefly wondered if this was its true appearance or if it had simply remained like that because it was killed while in this form.
He did not linger on this thought for too long as he requested the system to filter out all the warnings and reveal only the information about the monster he had just slain.
[ You’ve defeated a low-rank calamity. +25,000 EXP, +500 Skill points ]
[ 50x multiplier applied. You’ve obtained 1,250,000 EXP and 25,000 Skill points ]
[ Total EXP: 1,350,000 ]
[ Total skill points: 29,000 ]
’This..’
He had earned over one million experience points with a single kill.
Were calamities truly this valuable? He wondered.
’If a low rank could give this much reward, what about the stronger ones?’
He pondered as his gaze shifted to the other notifications that remained.
[ Scroll containing all the necessary information about calamities has been sent to your system. You can take it out and read it later. Note: It is a one time read. The scroll would vanish once you’re done reading. ]
[ You’ve completed quest: Slay the calamity. +3,000 EXP, +100 Skill points ]
[ 50x multiplier applied. You’ve obtained 150,000 EXP and 5,000 Skill points ]
[ Total EXP: 1,500,000 ]
[ Total skill points: 34,000 ]
[ The corpse of calamities disintegrates one hour after death. You should start extracting its core now ]
Following the last notification, he equipped his greatsword and quickly began to dig into the head of the calamity.
Barely two minutes afterwards, he dug his hand in and extracted a pure white crystal orb that glittered with an almost divine glow, which was strange considering the type of being the calamity was.
The orb glowed brightly. If one stood from afar, they would still be able to see it clearly.
[ You’ve obtained a low-rank calamity core. ]
[ Can be absorbed and used to craft soul weapons. ]
[ Nonetheless, there is a huge chance of failing when crafting a soul weapon with a low-rank calamity core. The calamity core may either be destroyed or form a cursed weapon, which kills the user much more quickly than their own enemies. ]
’Soul weapons and cursed weapons,’ he repeated.
He needed no teacher to explain what sort of weapons they were.
’What can I obtain from absorbing this core?’
He asked. Fortunately, his question was not ignored.
[ Calamity core grants the following, depending on grade.
—Talent ( mostly absorbed from high-rank ones, rarely obtained from low-rank ones, but it is not totally impossible )
—Skills ( 50/50 chance of absorbing one from a low-rank calamity core. Chances are even lower that you would be compatible with obtained skills.
—Attributes
—Special attributes.. eg luck ]
The obtainable rewards were looking promising. But the last one drew his attention the most.
This was the first time he had possessed something that could increase his luck. There was no way he would ignore it for anything in the world. Unfortunately, time was not on his side.
He stored the calamity core in his inventory and turned to look at the two soldiers and the elder from Blackstone, who were currently sobbing helplessly as they watched their comrades gradually dying beside them.
"You all should count yourselves lucky," Floki scoffed at their sadness as he spoke.
"If I had no use for any of you, you would have been on the ground like your peers, slowly being eaten by death."
The elder turned to him, his eyes clearing as anger surged within them, and he cursed with rage.
"Lord Kellan will make you pay for this humiliation," he said.
Floki scoffed.
He could have easily believed such threats before, but now he had more than enough experience points in reserve to at least reach the peak of silver-rank.
He was not afraid.
"Despite your old age, you are braver than the soldiers. Keep your mouth running and you will die before you reach Blackstone," Floki responded.
He was still irritated that he had used his valuable healing potions on these men.
At that instant, Jabba and Anton arrived.
They were dressed in new attire.
Old leather armors passed down from their father.
They gripped their weapons tightly and stared at him with determination, as they already knew the reason Floki had called them back.
It was time for war.
Floki accessed his shop quickly and purchased two sets of common-grade leather armor, then handed them to them.
They changed into the armor immediately.
There were no means of transportation, so they walked.
The two of them dragged the soldiers and the elder beside them, uncaring of the roughness of the ground beneath them.
They soon exited Ironside Village.
