The Heaven-Cursed Costs Life, But I Have Infinite Life

Chapter 57: Wolf Pack Attack, The Talking Beast

Allen stared into the dark forest, his expression ice-cold.

It seemed Alexander wasn’t giving up. He wanted to use a magic beast to kill him.

"Allen, what do we do?" Lilia asked.

She wasn’t afraid at all. With their combined strength, they could take on a Stage 6 expert. Even if they faced a Stage 6+ beast, they could just fly away.

Swish, swish...

Suddenly, the trees shook. A massive swarm of monsters rushed out.

"Wake everyone up. Let’s take out these monsters first," Allen said, standing up and gripping his Saber, ready for battle.

"Quick, wake up! Magic beasts are attacking!" Lilia slammed her spear against a rock, creating a loud boom that woke everyone up.

"Allen, are there magic beasts coming?" Eric hurriedly led his mercenary squad over, followed closely by the adventurers.

Allen glanced at the four guards around the carriages. They showed no sign of moving to help.

He sneered internally and warned Eric, "Be careful. There are quite a lot of magic beasts this time."

Wooooo...

A long, howling cry echoed through the night. A huge pack of Azure Wolves burst from the forest, their eyes glowing with malice as they charged forward.

"Bad! It’s a Stage 3 Azure Wolf pack. Everyone, form the defensive array!" Eric’s face changed color. He shouted orders immediately.

The mercenaries reacted quickly. Warriors and tank-type classes blocked the front line, while archers and mages stayed behind to attack.

Alexander walked out of his tent. Seeing the chaos, he let out a cold smile and warned the guard nearby, "Pay attention. Don’t let anyone die just yet. Take down 90% of those two Killers."

The guard nodded slightly. He pulled out a bamboo whistle and brought it to his lips. He blew, but no sound came out. Yet, the wolf pack became even more ferocious.

"Allen, you two hide behind us!" Eric shouted nervously. Seeing Allen and Lilia standing there, looking completely unbothered, he assumed they were frozen in fear and quickly urged them, "Get back!"

Allen didn’t move. He just slowly raised his Saber.

Lilia shook her spear and charged straight out.

"Careful!" Eric shouted to stop her, but he froze in shock the very next second.

BOOM!

A loud crash echoed, followed by a miserable scream. Two Azure Wolves were thrown backward, hitting the ground hard. They twitched twice and then died.

Eric’s jaw dropped. He couldn’t believe it. Was this woman that strong?

Even for him, taking on a Stage 3 Azure Wolf wasn’t easy. If he faced a whole pack, he’d have to run away.

But it wasn’t over yet. Allen joined the fight. His Saber spun, sending out flashes of cold light and splashes of blood. Within a three-meter radius, not a single Azure Wolf could get close.

The onlookers were stunned into silence.

"Captain, are these two young guys really only Stage 3?" one mercenary asked, shaking his head in disbelief.

Eric felt the same confusion.

And they were Killers. Killers specialize in assassinations, right? When did they become so powerful in a direct fight?

Even Alexander, watching from a distance, paused.

They’re hiding their true power!

Slaughter the Azure Wolves like that? They must be at least Stage 5 experts.

"Damn it! I misjudged them," Alexander muttered, his face turning dark. Thinking back to how Allen killed the cosmic mouse last night, he should have realized this sooner.

"Bring out the Ironclad Demon Wolf!" Alexander ordered the guard coldly.

"Alexander, isn’t that too dangerous?" the guard asked, worried. "The Ironclad Demon Wolf is Stage 4. If it loses control, we might not be able to stop it."

He could barely handle the Stage 3 Azure Wolf pack, let alone a Stage 4 beast.

"Just do as I say," Alexander said coldly, his face stormy.

Watching Allen and Lilia easily destroy the wolf pack, the guard hesitated for a moment. Then, he blew his bamboo whistle again.

At that moment, Eric and his mercenary squad finally joined the battle.

Allen and Lilia held back the vast majority of the wolf pack. They didn’t feel much pressure at all.

But no one relaxed.

Wooooo...

In the dark jungle, the howling rose and fell. More Azure Wolves kept pouring out from the shadows.

"Captain, it’s bad! A Stage 4 Ironclad Demon Wolf has appeared!" one mercenary shouted. He spotted a massive, pitch-black wolf in the middle of the pack.

Eric frowned deeply, his face pale. Wolves usually have their own territories. How could they have summoned this many Azure Wolves and an Ironclad Demon Wolf at the same time?

"Alexander, aren’t you going to help?" Eric demanded angrily, glaring at the group still watching from a distance.

"We need to guard the cargo. You just try to hold them off," Alexander replied coolly, not moving an inch.

"Damn it!" Eric cursed silently. They were mercenaries, not suicide soldiers.

Even if they fought to the death, they couldn’t stop so many powerful beasts. Eric already felt like running away.

Meanwhile, Lilia was starting to struggle. Although she had just broken through to Stage 3, handling the Azure Wolves was fine. But facing the siege of a Stage 4 Ironclad Demon Wolf was too much for her.

"Allen, what do we do? I can’t hold them back," she said firmly, withdrawing from the fight and hiding behind Allen.

"Leave it to me."

Allen felt confident. He sheathed his Saber, glanced back at Alexander’s group, and flicked his hand forward. A giant fireball shot out with a roar.

BOOM!

The explosion was violent. Waves of fire surged everywhere, killing dozens of magic beasts instantly.

Having broken through to Stage 3, his strength had increased, and the power of his Forbidden Spell had improved drastically.

"This is... a Forbidden Spell!?"

Alexander’s eyes widened, and he gasped in shock.

The Heaven-Cursed!

It suddenly clicked in his mind. That’s why Allen was so strong! He was The Heaven-Cursed.

Was this guy going to go all out for revenge?

Alexander felt a spike of fear. Looking at the endless barrage of fireballs, he knew he had no chance of stopping them.

Using his skill drained Allen’s lifespan. If Allen went all out, he might die.

"Damn it," Alexander cursed in his heart. "How did the Assassins’ Guild send such a freak to me?"

Thankfully, he and Allen hadn’t completely torn up their relationship yet. There was still room to back off.

Boom! Boom!

Fire surged through the jungle. The wind howled, and the screams of magic beasts echoed. Ironclad Demon Wolves kept dying under the Forbidden Spell.

"What kind of skill is that? It’s so terrifying!" A mercenary shivered, recalling a time when he’d never seen a spell with such power.

"A Forbidden Spell! He’s The Heaven-Cursed!" Eric finally realized too. He swallowed hard and quickly said, "Allen, the rest of the beasts aren’t a threat. Stop using your skill."

He knew that while The Heaven-Cursed were powerful, fighting cost them their lifespan.

There were only a dozen or so magic beasts left, and they were already wounded from the magical explosion, so their combat power was significantly reduced.

Allen ignored him. He raised his hand, and several giant wind blades flashed through the air. The remaining dozen beasts were instantly shredded to nothing.

Silence fell over the area. The ground was covered with mangled and burnt remains of magic beasts.

Allen had slaughtered hundreds of wolves all by himself.

The strength of The Heaven-Cursed was truly terrifying.

"Grrrr!"

Suddenly, a low, guttural roar echoed. The huge iron cage shook violently.

"It’s bad!" Alexander’s expression changed. He rushed into the battlefield and grabbed two wolf corpses.

"Stop!" Eric stepped forward, blocking him. "These are Allen’s spoils of war. Alexander, are you trying to steal them?"

Allen and Lilia had fought alone while Alexander’s group just watched coldly earlier, so Eric was already fed up.

"These wolf corpses count as what I bought," Alexander said. He vanished in a blur and threw the two corpses into the iron cage.

Bang!

But soon, the two corpses were thrown back out. Then came a low, raspy voice:

"Human... I want to eat human!"

BOOM!

The iron cage shook violently. Thick iron bars bent, and the black canvas tore open, revealing a massive crack.

"Lord Sacred Beast, please calm down!"

Four guards were terrified. They immediately fell to their knees, bowing their heads repeatedly.

Allen and his group were stunned. Through the crack in the canvas, they could vaguely see a giant black beast, its body marked with dark red stripes.

"This monster can talk?"

Allen asked in shock. He had never heard of a magic beast speaking human language.

Goblins knew human speech because they were a smart race, not fully classified as monsters.

"What is this?" Eric stared at the cage, his face frozen in shock.

Alexander’s expression turned icy. His eyes locked onto a nearby group of adventurers.

Suddenly, he moved. Grabbing two unarmed people in a flash, he threw them into the cage.

"Ah!"

"Help...!"

Two screams of agony were followed by the sound of bones snapping.

"Damn it!" Eric glared at Alexander, his voice cold. "What do you think you’re doing?"

"Hmph. I’m doing this for your own good. If you anger the Lord Sacred Beast, none of you will survive," Alexander scoffed.

He felt no fear facing Eric.

"Alexander, we were hired for an escort mission, not to feed you to a beast!" one adventurer yelled angrily. "We’re quitting this mission!"

"Heh, that’s not up to you," Alexander sneered. Since these people already knew the truth, he had no need to pretend anymore.

"What? Are you trying to attack us?" Eric stepped forward. Behind him, his mercenary squad immediately surged forward, surrounding Alexander and his four guards.

Alexander didn’t care. He hadn’t even taken them seriously. He turned to Allen and Lilia and said, "You two, my apologies for earlier. You can leave now, and I will pay you your full reward."

He had no chance of defeating Allen and wanted to send them away first.

Eric’s expression shifted slightly. He knew he couldn’t beat Alexander, but since Allen was just a stranger, he couldn’t ask for help either.

Allen smiled gently. "Alexander is generous. But I’d rather know what monster that actually is."

"Hmph. You’d be better off not knowing. It’s better for everyone if you just leave," Alexander snapped, his tone hostile.

It finally clicked: Allen had been playing him this whole time.

If he had the confidence, Allen would be the one he wanted to kill the most.
