Two down... nine more to go.

I wonder what it would mutate to when I fully unravel it... Though I already have a guess.

Now... for her...

Zorat muttered, grinning as her looked down at Erica, who was currently cuddling tightly against him, with a fresh new glow to her.

Zorat was more interested in unraveling what he had just gotten, rather than entertaining Erica any further.

But he couldn’t just start playing with runes in front of her; that would need a lot of explaining on his part.

I guess that’s it for her utility....

What do I do with her now...hmm.

Ah.... I’ll wait and see if there’s anything else I can gain from these ’heroes’..

For now... we wait for our rescuers. Hehehe.

Since then, three more days had gone by, and the team of heroes had finally made it to the one hundredth floor of the catacombs of Permerfrost.

Leading the charge was now the knight commander, who had taken over almost completely when they had arrived on the sixtieth floor.

The other heroes now served to feel in whenever she rested, or she was gravely injured, requiring healing from Lily.

Even a paragon-level being would suffer grave injuries from countless master level entities.

Now, as they arrived on the one hundredth floor, they saw a terrifyingly large minotaur monster repeatedly hitting a shimmering golden barrier, but they were too far to see what was inside.

They could all immediately tell that this was the final boss of this dungeon, and any careless move would lead to their deaths.

But seeing the boss monster acting as if there was someone behind that golden veil gave most of them hope that the people they had come to rescue might actually still be alive.

None more so than Ava and Ariana. Erica was Ariana’s very good friend, and no one was even sure yet what relationship Ava had with Caleb.

But after the events of the last six days, they could all tell it certainly wasn’t ordinary.

Though the heroes were all now decently high leveled, all boasting strength at the adept realm. They all looked like malnourished homeless people barely hanging on to life.

Even though they made it down here faster because of the knight commander stepping up sooner than planned, and accelerating the pace. They still ran out of food more than a day ago.

Compounded by their repeated injuries, physical and mental fatigue, restlessness, and sleeplessness, they were all on their last straw, and none looked worse than Ava.

If the rest looked like they had been run over by a bus, Ava looked like she had been run over by a speeding train.

Only the knight commander looked relatively fine.

When you cross over to become a paragon realm being, you can even last a full month without eating, and the majority of environmental factors barely affect you. That’s why she’s been able to keep going up to this point, and now they were on what they believed to be the last floor of the dungeon.

And as luck would have it, it would appear their turmoil hadn’t been in vain since it was most probably that behind the golden barrier were the people they had come to rescue.

Ava’s eyes, for the first time since Caleb’s disappearance, glittered with light, hope, and warmth as it took all she had in holding back from running over to check.

They needed to get rid of the giant minotaur.

They didn’t need to contemplate much longer because the minotaur seemed to have sensed their presence. It turned sharply, and with a roar, it sprinted towards the group, hammer raised for a thunderous strike.

The beast was way stronger than a regular grandmaster-realm entity because it’s in his domain, but it lacked the finesse that other high-realmed beings possess.

Azaria watched the beast advance as she slowly brought her large sword with both hands to her side; bending a little as she took a draw stance, she channeled the last drop of her mana into her sword as it ignited in a blue aura....

"Empyrial Sword... Grand Sky Cleaver."

With a diagonal slash too quick to track with the naked eye, Azara executed one of the most lethal moves in the empyrial sword series, before standing back up straight and sheathing her sword.

The minotaur seemed to have paused its advance, but nothing else seemed out of the ordinary; that was until its upper half slowly began sliding apart from its lower half, until both halves fell limply to the sides.

The gathered heroes found in themselves a new fear and respect for the knight commander. They knew she was strong, but to take such a monster that made them want to crawl inside a hole and hide in one move, made them understand she had probably never been really serious with the battles since. She certainly never used any techniques like this.

’So this is the paragon realm.’ Andrew thought with respect in his mind as he observed the knight commander in her golden armor. This was the level of strength he had to reach and surpass in order to get back home to his sister.

While they were all in a daze, they felt the wind surge past them as Ava was already at the entrance of the golden shimmering barrier.

Streaks of happy tears came pouring out of her eyes and down her cheeks in torrents as she saw Caleb leaning now fully dressed by the wall of the cave entrance, smiling, with only the shimmering golden barrier in the way.

"Caleb..." She murmured, as a wide smile stretched on her weathered face, as her blue eyes met Caleb’s star-ridden ones.

But Zorat was suddenly distracted by something else...
