Chapter 404 404: How to Tame Your Madara
Regarding the Baryon Mode that Kazuki spoke of—
This technique was inspired by the Nine-Tails from an alternate timeline, but unlike the original version, the one Kaguya had stolen was a customized variant—refined and perfected by none other than Kazuki, the foremost technique developer in the shinobi world.
It was tailored specifically for the Ōtsutsuki clan, and it was especially devastating against those in the "Kama" state.
And when it was unleashed by Kaguya—an Ōtsutsuki herself—
...
Konohagakure.
Once a village coveted by the various Hidden Villages across the shinobi world, it had now become the provisional headquarters of the Allied Shinobi Forces.
No matter the origin—every village had dispatched its shinobi here. Apart from the Genin who only knew the basic Transformation, Clone, and Substitution Techniques and could serve no purpose beyond running errands, all Chūnin and above who showed even the slightest aptitude were receiving standardized training in Konoha.
And overseeing that training—
At the forefront were the legendary sages: the brothers Ōtsutsuki Hamura and Hagoromo, along with Senju Tobirama, Kazuki's closest companion.
Next in the command structure came Indra, Asura, Uchiha Madara, and Senju Hashirama…
Even the once-proud Great Sage Regions had set aside their pride. The three Great Sages and their elite descendants had all gathered in Konoha.
"Senju Tobirama, are you sure about this?"
"Resurrecting those shinobi is not difficult for me… but the real question is whether Uchiha Kazuki might see it as a provocation."
"After all, it could very well be misinterpreted as a challenge."
Atop a tall platform in the center of the village, the Sage of Six Paths stood with his shakujo in hand, sensing the souls within the Pure Land. His tone was hesitant as he addressed Tobirama: "We mustn't anger him."
"You still don't understand Kazuki…" Tobirama shook his head lightly and said in a quiet voice, "You think he would care whether the enemies he killed are brought back to life? He wouldn't. Not in the slightest."
"The truth is, Kazuki never wanted to see this world plunged into war. But the shinobi system you created—it drove a good child mad. That's why he had no choice but to become a butcher, all to protect the village."
"He sacrificed his own life to seal you away for the sake of saving this world…" Tobirama gave a self-deprecating smile and shook his head.
"Sorry, force of habit… He sealed away Kaguya. Just that alone shows what kind of man he is. And you're still worried?"
The Sage of Six Paths darkened at that remark, but eventually nodded in silence.
That a mere mortal could, by his own power, accomplish what he and Hamura together had taken months to do—sealing Kaguya—
"I truly don't understand… why must they keep tarnishing my reputation like this…"
Grumbling under his breath, the Sage then let out a heartfelt sigh.
"You're right… A shinobi who has no equal in this world—who could dominate all if he so chose—and yet was willing to give up everything for one last desperate gamble, for the sake of peace…"
"Even now, whenever I recall that moment… it still shakes me."
A faint smile of pride crept across Tobirama's lips.
This was Kazuki. Even in front of the Sage of Six Paths himself, his heart—pure as gold—was undeniable.
"That's right. If Kazuki were simply obsessed with power, he wouldn't have given this world a chance to prove itself. Even if he drained every last drop of natural energy from the land, who could've stopped him?"
Senju Tobirama cast a glance at the Sage of Six Paths.
"Forgive my bluntness, but even though you're known as a sage, compared to Kazuki—who can instant-kill those high-ranking Ōtsutsuki—you're still far behind."
The Sage of Six Paths sighed, offering no rebuttal.
"Kazuki's trial for us is meant to test whether the shinobi world can truly rise above its internal strife and unite its various powers for once…"
Tobirama spoke slowly, his tone calm but firm.
"And that includes your Pure Land. By resurrecting those shinobi, Kazuki will see that you're not holding anything back, but rather contributing your strength."
"Our job is to elevate the power of those shinobi Kazuki once defeated. Even if they still can't match him, as long as they become stronger—"
"With Kazuki's eyes, he'll naturally notice their improvement. And in doing so, he'll see proof that our efforts are working."
That was Tobirama's reasoning.
The Sage of Six Paths no longer hesitated. With a swing of his shakujo, the souls from the Pure Land—interwoven with vitality and chakra—descended to the earth and began to revive.
Tobirama gave a small nod of approval.
This was the first step.
In response to the test Kazuki had issued, Senju Tobirama—alongside the Sage of Six Paths and the others—was racing against time to strengthen the Allied Shinobi Forces and train their coordination.
This was a comprehensive, open-ended examination. And the preparation resources were abundant.
Under the pressure brought by Kazuki's overwhelming presence, even the Hidden Villages' most treasured secret techniques had ceased to be secrets. They were now freely available, turned into shared resources for all Allied shinobi.
Powerful shinobi were teaching personally—Uchiha Madara leading the Fire Release training, Senju Tobirama instructing on Water Release, and Uzumaki Mito hosting lessons on sealing techniques…
Even advanced techniques like Dust Release, Lightning Release: Body Techniques, Magnet Release, Puppet Techniques, and other theoretically acquirable kekkei genkai and secret arts were openly laid out for all to study.
After all, if they couldn't pass Kazuki's trial, everything would be over.
"Can't even learn this level of Fire Release? Your comprehension is disgusting!"
Madara's scolding voice rang out from a distance: "Get your act together! Watch closely, I'll demonstrate it again!"
His words were harsh, no doubt, but the shinobi below all looked at him with deep respect. The fear they once felt had quietly faded, replaced by admiration and eagerness to please.
This former Shura of the shinobi world, now serving as an instructor—foul-mouthed as he might be—was putting in genuine effort, teaching with all he had.
From the precision of hand seals, to chakra manipulation, to the nature transformation and shape transformation of Fire Release chakra—he shared real, invaluable knowledge. The students listened, completely enthralled.
The so-called Shura of the Shinobi World was no longer seen as a terrifying enemy—but rather, as the vanguard against Kazuki, the one who would lead them from the frontlines.
This shift in mindset made many in the Allied Forces finally recognize Madara's true charisma:
A man who was serious, responsible, a bit arrogant—but not someone to fear. A true hero.
A torrent of searing flame swept across the land in an instant. The air distorted under the intense heat, and the grass ahead was instantly reduced to scorched earth.
Uchiha Madara stood with his arms crossed, black hair billowing in the wind as he looked back and said: "It's not just a matter of chakra volume… your technique is atrocious. If you'd actually internalized what I've taught you, ten of you working together might just be able to block a single Fire Release from me."
That might have sounded like an insult—but to the Allied Shinobi Forces gathered below, it was the opposite. His words were incredibly encouraging.
If they could ever reach even one-tenth of the strength of the Shinobi World's Shura, that alone would make this life worth it.
Especially since they all knew—this man never lied.
If Madara said that with enough mastery, ten of them might stand a chance at blocking his Fire Release, then it had to be true.
"Long live Madara-sama!" a shinobi from Iwagakure suddenly shouted, clenching his fists in excitement.
As an Iwa-nin whose chakra nature affinity was Fire Release, he had never received proper training for it back in his own village.
But today, after listening to Madara's teaching, it was as if something inside him had been unlocked. His understanding of Fire Release had skyrocketed, and he could barely suppress the urge to find a place to test out what he'd learned.
Overcome with emotion, he cried out before thinking.
"…Huh?" Madara's face darkened, and the crimson Sharingan in his eyes gleamed. He turned slowly, preparing to stare down whoever had dared to shout something so aligned with his ego…
The Iwa-nin who had yelled froze in place, face going pale as he saw Madara beginning to turn.
Too impulsive…
If I pissed him off, even if we're allies… he might actually…
And just then—
From the back of the crowd, a voice rang out even louder: "THANK YOU, MADARA-sama!!"
Madara paused.
Then, as if that one voice had given permission, a wave of gratitude surged across the training field.
"Thank you for sharing your knowledge so freely! We'll never forget this!"
"Please accept our deepest thanks, Madara-sama!"
Looking at the rows of shinobi filled with genuine gratitude and admiration, Madara struggled to suppress the corners of his lips from curling upward. He fought to keep his joy in check, and barked in a stern voice: "That's enough! I don't need your pointless thanks!"
"I'm going to demonstrate again—those who didn't catch it the first time, pay attention!"
"Yes, Madara-sama!" the students shouted in unison.
Meanwhile, at the far edge of the crowd—
Just as Madara turned to unleash his Fire Release again, the shinobi who had led the cheering slipped over to stand beside Senju Hashirama, watching Madara with a cool, analytical gaze.
"That guy… he's surprisingly simple-minded," said the one who had sparked the chants—Senju Tobirama, who not moments ago had been speaking with the Sage of Six Paths.
The reason for hyping up Uchiha Madara?
Tobirama had been startled to discover just how much Madara enjoyed being recognized by others. Once praised, he would go all out—demonstrating harder, explaining more thoroughly, pushing himself to teach as if his life depended on it.
Was this really the same Madara who had once insisted on casting the Infinite Tsukuyomi?
Tobirama couldn't help but wonder if Madara had known all along that the Infinite Tsukuyomi was a flawed solution—that maybe, after the death of Uchiha Izuna and the betrayal of the Uchiha clan, he had simply suffered too great a blow… fallen into despair… and lost himself chasing a dead-end dream.
Actually, maybe if someone had just acknowledged him—or even just humored him a little—Uchiha Madara wouldn't have turned out so extreme…
So really, tossing a compliment Madara's way didn't feel like a big deal to Senju Tobirama. At the end of the day, he'd just gotten played by his own strategy.
