Chapter 281: Ch-281: New York Auction (3)
"Is this good enough for the auction? They already have Tier 3 attacks stored in them," Victor said.
"What?! Tier 3 attacks?" the old man exclaimed, and even the ladies covered their mouths with their hands when they heard Victor. Even Valerie looked at the beads greedily.
Gulp.
Swallowing sounds could be heard as they looked at the beads and at Victor with shining eyes.
"Eh, do you mind if I test it?" the manager said, looking at Victor.
"How? Don’t tell me you are going to use it here?" Victor said, adopting a weird look on his face.
"No, of course not." The manager’s face paled, and he felt a chill run down his spine just thinking about the consequences of using a Tier 3 attack here. Not only would the hotel vaporize, but he doubted even a large part of New York would be left standing.
"Athena, go and fetch the measurement tools," the old man said to the shocked woman.
"Y-Yes, I will fetch them," she said as she hurriedly left. After a few minutes, she returned with a tray. Victor raised an eyebrow when he saw a lone needle on it.
Seeing the interested look on Victor’s face, Athena explained, "This is the assessment tool. This is a special tool used to measure stored attacks in times we have found in the game. The needle separates the Magical Energy inside the bead, and the tray determines the stored attack by showing different colors, and it can measure a maximum of up to Tier 4."
Athena explained while Victor nodded and looked at the old man, who took the needle and poked it into the bead. As soon as the needle touched the bead, a ray of Magical Energy fell on the tray.
"Magical Energy," Victor thought with a raised eyebrow.
Everyone immediately turned to look at the tray and waited for its response. As soon as the Magical Energy touched the tray, it lit up.
A moment later, the room brightened as the tray glowed gold.
"Holy shit, it’s true?!" the manager shouted with his eyes bulging, and the man who had been standing silently immediately staggered forward and slammed the table, looking as if he had just witnessed his ancestors crawling out of their graves.
The man’s jaw dropped after seeing the result. He was rendered completely speechless, his mind already in a mess from the outcome.
"You can go back, Mr. Vanglory. I will make sure this becomes the final item, and I assume its price will go higher than the dungeon itself," the manager said as he ran away as if Victor would change his mind.
"..." Victor.
"..." Valerie.
---
Victor and Valerie returned to the place designated for him after putting the items up for auction. Immediately, he slumped down on the sofa and then looked ahead.
Victor looked forward, and in front of him was a large auditorium. The entire circular auditorium was very much like a gymnasium. The outer circle of the auditorium consisted of the stands and boxes, while the inner circle was the auction table.
Victor looked at the table and saw there was a tablet, probably left for him. He took it, and rows of text appeared on the screen.
Victor looked at the first item and was surprised. It was a Superior-rank weapon, which was worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and the price was going up.
"Did the auction start?" Victor said in confusion as he looked at Valerie.
"No, these are the mini auctions which take place before the main auction," Valerie explained calmly.
"I see." Victor nodded his head in understanding.
Victor no longer had much interest in weapons or armor, as there were much better ones in his inventory. Unless he found something genuinely interesting, he had no interest in spending money on them.
His current equipment, which was a Soul Weapon, was more than enough.
"That’s quite a lot of stuff..." Victor muttered as he scrolled down and browsed the auction catalog.
Artifacts, skills, monster parts, special ores, monster eggs, and many other things were present in the long catalog. Most of the items were things that would make anyone from Earth drool over them, but for him, these were insignificant.
Especially ordinary people who did not have the qualifications to enter the 5-Star auction—even for the least popular item, they would fight tooth and nail to get it.
However, the items listed in the catalog were not the main stars of today’s auction. No, the main stars would only come out once the auction reached toward the end. These were the items that would interest all the VVIPs and something even he was looking forward to. Of course, there were many items listed in the auction catalog that he could bid for now, like all the others on the lower floors were doing, but nothing caught his eye as he kept browsing.
"Mysterious Stone."
"Top-secret information about the two mysterious Awakeners who caused a riot."
"The trace of a high-rank, unclaimed Fire Stone ore, not verified."
"Clues on the mysterious NPC."
"Heh." Victor almost snorted in laughter when he saw information about his alias at the top of the list with the highest bid. He was sure this was fake and shook his head.
"If only they knew Faceless was here, what would their reaction be?" Valerie said with a smirk as she giggled softly, looking at Victor’s handsome face.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I am your host for the auction. You can call me Jean. I would like to thank you for coming to the New York Auction."
Just as Victor was checking the catalog, the lights turned off, and the voice of the auctioneer resounded across the hall.
Instantly, all chattering from below stopped.
Victor looked up and saw an extremely beautiful woman standing on the large stage at the front of all the seats.
Immediately, two attendants carried out a table covered with a large cloth, hiding the contents beneath. Victor put down the tablet and leaned forward to watch the auction.
"Now that everyone is ready for the auction, I will present the first item," the lady said with a brilliant smile as she walked toward the item covered with a large cloth. She traced the cloth with her fingers and gently lifted it, revealing the item underneath.
As the host pulled off the cover, two centipede-like creatures appeared in front of everyone, contained in a huge glass box.
"The first auction items are two beasts, both at Tier 1, which are highly suited for beast tamers. As for whether they can break through to Tier 2, we don’t know."
"First, I have to introduce these beasts to you all."
"The Thousand Poison Scorpion has killed dozens of humans, including its previous two owners, who were Awakeners. It has a brutal and ferocious personality. Although it is powerful, ordinary beast tamers cannot control it."
The host’s words calmed down the beast tamers who had been tempted and those who were originally ready to make a move.
Although Tier 1 beasts were tempting, the prerequisite was having the ability to control them. While they could serve as powerful bodyguards for the weak, they were also a double-edged sword.
"Everyone can take a look at this beast first."
Victor thought that he was not a beast tamer nor interested, as he believed it was better to rely on his own strength than on others. Still, his eyes fell on the beast that was pulled out of the huge glass box.
Victor’s eyes focused on the scorpion that was taken out of the box, and judging by the obedient behavior of the other scorpion, it seemed to be the boss or the stronger one.
As for the other beast in the glass box, it indeed possessed the strength of a Tier 1 beast, as the host said. Both looked at everyone present with their pairs of vertical pupils and spat out their tongues, giving people a sinister feeling.
"The starting price is 2 million dollars. You can start bidding now. Each bid cannot be less than $100,000."
"Are you going to buy it?" Victor asked, looking at Valerie, who had her tablet ready and started bidding.
"Yes, in the real world, I am still weak, and I need them for my safety," Valerie said calmly.
"They won’t listen," Victor pointed out.
"I have an item to make them obedient," Valerie said with a smile, to which Victor just nodded his head.
"2.1 million dollars."
"3 million dollars."
"5 million dollars."
The bidding sounds continued one after another. It was obvious that although this scorpion had obvious shortcomings, there were still many people who were not afraid of death bidding.
The bidding continued for the next ten minutes, and even a few of the VVIPs got interested and joined in the fun to show off their wealth.
"20 million dollars, sold to the VVIP in Box 3," the host said, pointing towards Victor and Valerie’s booth, which was tinted with black glass for privacy.
