Chapter 636: Sang Zhi’s Killing Intent 3
Sang Qi, only eight years old, was also frightened by the sudden bloodshed. He involuntarily took a few steps back.
"Qi’er, don’t be afraid." Consort Yuan pulled the Crown Prince into her embrace, her vigilant and vicious gaze fixed on Sang Zhi.
Longsword in hand, Sang Zhi advanced on Consort Yuan, one step at a time.
He slashed at any guard who tried to get close.
He was a Prince, so the guards dared not strike back, nor did they dare get too close.
"Anyone who stands in my way today dies," Sang Zhi said, his aura chilling.
Faced with his bloodlust, the guards were even more afraid to make a move.
Sang Qi broke free from Consort Yuan’s grasp and stepped forward to block Sang Zhi. "Eighth Brother, what are you doing?"
"Qi’er, come back!"
Sang Zhi looked at him coldly. "Revenge."
"Mother may have colluded with East Shu, but Father Emperor has already exiled her to the border! Isn’t that enough?" Sang Qi demanded angrily.
"I want her dead."
"Our mother was wrong, but you’re still alive. Why can’t you let it go...?"
"She’s dead." Sang Zhi’s cold voice rose in pitch, the red in his eyes deepening. "Ye Qianning is dead! It’s all her fault! All because of her! She deserves to die a hundred, a thousand times over!"
At the mention of Ye Qianning’s name, Sang Zhi seemed to descend into madness. His mind was flooded with crimson, filled with images of her brutal death.
"She’s dead... She’s dead..." he muttered, raising his longsword and slashing wildly at everything around him.
Startled by the sudden outburst, Sang Qi was caught completely off guard. He had no time to dodge as the longsword swept toward him, striking him in the shoulder.
"Qi’er!"
Consort Yuan cried out in alarm.
Seeing this, the Queen trembled, her eyes wide with terror.
Blood splattered across Sang Qi’s face. He looked at his left shoulder in astonishment, and a moment later, excruciating pain shot through him.
"Qi’er! Qi’er..." Consort Yuan cried, stumbling toward him.
Sang Zhi wrenched his sword free, gripped it with both hands, and lunged again.
Consort Yuan clutched Sang Qi tightly, turning just in time to see the longsword thrusting straight for her face. Her eyes widened in horror.
CLANG! DING...
Someone seized Sang Zhi’s wrist, and his longsword clattered to the ground.
Eight Royal Hidden Guards suddenly appeared in the courtyard. Six of them simultaneously attacked Du Yi.
When the Queen saw the Hidden Guards appear, her expression changed. She turned to see a figure robed in brilliant yellow walk into the courtyard.
"Your servant greets Your Majesty."
The Beili Emperor shot her a cold glance and walked past her, his face grim.
Seeing the Emperor arrive was like grasping a lifeline for Consort Yuan. "Your Majesty, save Qi’er! Sang Zhi is trying to kill Qi’er! Your Majesty..."
The Beili Emperor’s gaze fell upon Sang Qi’s wound. Though it was a bloody mess, it wasn’t fatal. Then, for just a moment, his eyes shifted to Consort Yuan’s face, his expression complex.
"Your Majesty, look at Qi’er! Please, look at him!" Consort Yuan wailed.
"Summon the Imperial Physician," the Beili Emperor commanded, his voice heavy.
A young eunuch behind him bowed and hurried away.
"You all deserve to die! All of you will accompany her in death...!" Sang Zhi struggled, his young face twisted with savage fury.
The Beili Emperor looked at him, his brow deeply furrowed.
The six Hidden Guards made short work of subduing Du Yi, holding him to the side to await judgment.
The Queen secretly observed the Beili Emperor’s expression.
"Your Majesty, the Eighth Prince has gone mad! We cannot let him live..." ’Consort Yuan knew with certainty that if the Eighth Prince wasn’t eliminated, he would one day come for the Crown Prince.’
"I have my own plans. I don’t need your reminders."
Consort Yuan faltered. She bit her lower lip, and with a tremor in her voice, she asked, "Your Majesty... is it true that you’ve banished the medicine-refining families?"
