Chapter 252: Going Home
For Sheng Shijing, who was about to part with his adopted sister, ten days passed in the blink of an eye.
Gu Jiaojiao was preparing to return to Qing City. Before she left, she brought some snacks to say goodbye to Sheng Shijing. The two siblings sat under a large tree, gazing up at the sky.
A bright, jade-like moon hung in the summer night sky. Stars twinkled like glistening jewels.
The siblings snacked and chatted idly. Sheng Shijing looked at Gu Jiaojiao earnestly and spoke.
"Jiaojiao, I’m the one who relies on you now, so I don’t have much advice to give. I just sincerely hope you’ll be happy."
"Big Brother, you’re already outstanding. It’s just that I’m a cut above. As the old saying goes, ’The student has surpassed the master.’"
"You really are amazing, Jiaojiao. I won’t be like before, foolishly doting on Yueyue."
"Big Brother, our relationship has nothing to do with you doting on Yueyue. You can do whatever you want. I really don’t mind.
I’ve matured a lot since getting married, and I have Su Shuochi to back me up.
I can just leave all my affairs for him to handle. Besides, he’s one of my most capable right-hand men now.
And Third Brother is studying really hard now. He’s been helping Su Shuochi out during the summer break, too.
So, Big Brother, just go ahead and do what you love. We’ll all be fine, I promise."
"Jiaojiao..."
Sheng Shijing gazed at the indescribably beautiful girl before him. His sister. The sister he had raised himself.
For years, he had worked tirelessly for her, cherishing her like the apple of his eye.
But then, a biological sister had suddenly appeared, one who claimed to have suffered a great deal.
It was only natural to give more care to the sister who had suffered so much. But Jiaojiao... they had always spoiled her, leaving her too naive.
She would act without considering the consequences, which ultimately led to them severing ties.
Who would have thought that after they cut ties, Jiaojiao would suddenly become so strong and independent? She was even more capable than him and their father combined.
A wry smile touched Sheng Shijing’s lips at the thought.
"Jiaojiao, at first, I didn’t think we would be able to get along peacefully. It was my fault for being so narrow-minded.
I overcomplicated things. It turns out we just needed to find a new way of getting along, and it could be just like it was before."
Sheng Shijing sighed internally. ’It’s because Jiaojiao became so strong that we’re getting along better now.’
’He wasn’t sure when it happened, but their roles had completely reversed. He felt like Jiaojiao was the older sister, and he was the clueless younger brother.’
Right then, she was wearing a white dress, her long, silky black hair cascading over her shoulders. She exuded an indescribable air of elegance.
For the past few days, she had always made time to have a meal with him, clearly trying to soothe his wounded spirit.
If it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t know what to do. His father spent all day at work, reluctant to come home.
"Jiaojiao, when you get back to Qing City, if you have time, please go check on Dad for me."
"Mr. Sheng? What’s wrong?" Gu Jiaojiao asked in surprise. She hadn’t heard anything.
She had heard a lot about the Sheng family from Su Qinchun over the past few days.
That was because Dong Qiming and his sister lived next door to the Sheng family and had overheard many of their secrets.
Dong Qiming and his sister were partners with Su Qinchun, running a stall that sold savory crepes, so they often shared gossip.
But Mr. Sheng sometimes ate at the Su family home, and Su Shuochi had never mentioned anything being wrong with him!
"Dad’s in a really bad mood. I have to call and comfort him from time to time. The father we used to admire, that man of iron, is being driven mad by Yueyue."
"Don’t worry, Big Brother. I’ll invite Mr. Sheng over for dinner as soon as I get back."
"Dad said he’s been going to your place for dinner sometimes, but he doesn’t dare go too often. He’s afraid Mom and Yueyue will find out and cause a scene.
Plus, Yueyue yelled at Divine Doctor Jiang and drove her away, so Xiao Wen’s injuries haven’t fully healed. Doctor Sun’s skills are nowhere near Divine Doctor Jiang’s."
"It’s fine. As long as the kneecap was set properly, the follow-up care doesn’t require any advanced medical skills. Standard nursing should be enough."
Gu Jiaojiao could only say this to comfort Sheng Shijing, though she didn’t fully believe it. Of course, follow-up care from a highly skilled doctor would have made recovery much easier and more effective.
’But Sheng Yueyue had already berated Divine Doctor Jiang and driven her away. What else could she say?’
Gu Jiaojiao griped internally, ’Running into a reborn biological daughter... Mr. Sheng and his sons have truly suffered some terrible karma!’
’Oh my god!’
’Divine Doctor Jiang was actually driven away by Sheng Yueyue... Doesn’t that mean there’s no one to give Su Shuochi his silver needle treatments?!’
’Thank goodness, thank goodness I’m going back to Qing City tomorrow. If Su Shuochi goes too long without his silver needle treatments, it could have serious consequences.’
Actually, Su Shuochi had asked her over the phone if they should try to keep Divine Doctor Jiang around.
But at the time, Gu Jiaojiao’s mind was on... other things, so she hadn’t really heard him.
Meanwhile, because of what had happened with Jiang Ruyan, Su Shuochi hadn’t wanted Divine Doctor Jiang to be the one treating him anyway.
「The next day.」
Han Chenyu dispatched a helicopter to fly Gu Jiaojiao back to Qing City. Mr. Han and Xia Qiuming returned to the Imperial City on the same day.
Xiao Yue also returned to his military sector that day. Although he couldn’t go onto the battlefield yet, he was already able to walk on his own.
He needed to return to oversee the general situation. Gu Jiaojiao had initially been furious, saying she wouldn’t treat him.
But Xiao Yue was a smooth operator. He introduced Gu Jiaojiao to Patriarch Xiao, and Gu Jiaojiao received shares in the family business.
In return, she naturally took special care of Xiao Yue, using precious herbs grown in her pocket dimension, which was why he recovered so quickly.
To everyone else, it felt like time had flown by. The Little Divine Doctor’s forty-five days in the military base had passed in the blink of an eye.
However, for Su Shuochi, who was eagerly awaiting his wife’s return, those forty-five days had felt like an eternity.
He spent his nights counting the days on his fingers. Why only at night? Because he was far too busy during the day, of course.
Sheng Shijing ran after the car carrying Gu Jiaojiao and the others for a long distance, nearly all the way to the temporary airstrip.
It wasn’t just him; many soldiers also ran along to see them off, creating an incredibly lively scene.
Mr. Han looked at the soldiers trailing behind them and teased, "Little Sister, look at all those rascals running after you."
"You’re joking, Brother Han. They’re sad to see you go. It’s you they’re running after, you know."
"This old man knows his own limits. It’s not like I haven’t left before. Back then, not a single person came to see me off!"
"Haha... Uncle Han, since when did you get so dramatic?" Xiao Yue joked, a rare occurrence for him.
"I have a sworn sister now, so I get to be dramatic. What about it? You have a problem with that?"
Xiao Yue fell silent. ’How could I have a problem with it? I want her to be my sworn sister too, but the Little Divine Doctor refused.’
But all good things must come to an end. Soon, Gu Jiaojiao was on the plane back to Qing City.
Mr. Han and Xia Qiuming said a reluctant farewell to Gu Jiaojiao, then boarded their own plane back to the Imperial City.
A few hours later, the plane landed. Su Shuochi was waiting at the airport to pick her up, having driven there with Gao Xiangming.
Gu Jiaojiao had imagined their reunion after so long apart would be full of joyful cheers. She’d pictured them embracing and spinning around, oblivious to the stares of everyone around them.
But none of that happened...
