Chapter 230: The Invitation
Gu Jiaojiao performed several more surgeries, working until the crack of dawn before finally going to bed.
After hanging up the phone, Su Shuochi fell into a sweet dream. He woke up at the crack of dawn.
A driver came to pick him up and take him to the new courtyard for breakfast, after which he would head to the factory to get to work.
Sheng Shiwu had been shadowing Su Shuochi during his summer break. Having switched his major to business management, he helped Su Shuochi manage the employees.
Before she left, Gu Jiaojiao had invested all her money in Su Shuochi’s venture, saying she wanted to be the one in charge in the future.
Aside from his monthly salary, Su Shuochi himself had no other income for the time being. His wife said his contribution was a technical investment, making him the second-in-command.
He had sold the entire courtyard’s worth of rice to Geng Haoyi, so he had money to buy a used car.
Hiring workers to build the factory and paying their wages—all the initial expenses were paid out of their own pockets.
Song Zijie was now able to walk again. He invested all his savings in Su Shuochi’s business, snagging the position of third-in-command.
After finishing breakfast, Su Shuochi came out and ran into Song Zijin and Sheng Yueyue at the courtyard gate. "What are you two doing here?"
"Captain Su, we’re here to invite Yueyue’s grandfather, parents, and brother to our wedding tomorrow," Song Zijin said politely.
"I see. Go on in, then."
Su Shuochi had no reason to stop these two scumbags from seeing his in-laws. After all, the Su and Gu families had bought this courtyard together.
Thankfully, in another month, his in-laws’ family would be moving to the Imperial City.
Besides, whether the Yue Family attended Sheng Yueyue’s wedding was not something he could control.
’When I get a call from Jiaojiao tonight,’ Su Shuochi thought, ’I’ll have to give my wife a full report.’
He took a long look at Song Zijin. With his gold-rimmed glasses, he appeared refined and gentle on the surface.
He certainly had the looks of a pretty boy, but the "refined scoundrel" type.
’Even I look down on him, let alone my wife.’
In a pleasant mood, Su Shuochi let Song Zijin and Sheng Yueyue into the courtyard. He then closed the gate and got in the car to head for the suburbs.
Song Zijin and Sheng Yueyue’s wedding was set for August 1st, which was tomorrow.
As for Song Zijin, it was obvious his grandfather was no longer as strict with him. At first, he was relieved.
Later, however, he sensed something was wrong. He had his mother ask around and only then learned that Divine Doctor Su Gu had cured that sickly weakling of the Song Family.
Song Zijin was so furious he could have coughed up blood. This made him even more desperate to marry Sheng Yueyue.
A Sheng Yueyue backed by the Sheng and Gu Families was the most suitable candidate for a wife. With such a powerful alliance, he could secure his position as the heir to the Song Family.
So, Song Zijin started visiting the Sheng residence every day. Mr. Sheng had been forbidding his daughter from leaving the courtyard.
But with the wedding date approaching and Song Zijin showing up at their home daily, Mr. Sheng finally allowed Sheng Yueyue to go out and meet him.
Sparks flew between the two. Whenever they met, a tender moment was inevitable. Song Zijin took Sheng Yueyue directly to his house.
Just like in the beginning, Song Zijin treated Sheng Yueyue with tenderness, showering her with sweet nothings as if they cost him nothing.
Having been confined for twenty days, Sheng Yueyue had expected Song Zijin to give her the cold shoulder. To her surprise, not only did he not, but he was even more passionate than before.
This was the first time they had been intimate in a room. Before, it had always been in the woods, so the experience was naturally different.
Song Zijin’s passion restored some of Sheng Yueyue’s confidence and arrogance. ’A chosen one truly is different,’ she thought smugly.
Afterward, Song Zijin held Sheng Yueyue and tempted her softly, "Yueyue, you must invite the Gu Family to our wedding."
"Zijin~ Why? I don’t want to invite pig farmers to our wedding~"
Song Zijin suppressed his boiling rage. He couldn’t afford to argue with this idiot right now; he couldn’t lose the backing of the Sheng and Gu Families that came with her.
He kissed Sheng Yueyue with watery tenderness. "Be good, Yueyue. Grandpa Gu has been reinstated to his original position. He’s going to teach at Imperial University when the semester starts."
"What? The old man is a teacher? How come I never knew?" Although Sheng Yueyue was surprised, she didn’t think much of it.
"Zijin~ A poor teacher isn’t worth me trying to curry favor with~~"
"Grandpa Gu isn’t just any teacher, you know. He’s a professor at a prestigious university. And your adoptive father is also a professor. Did you know that? They have students all over the world..."
And so, under the assault of Song Zijin’s endless tenderness and sweet talk, Sheng Yueyue finally agreed to bring him to see the Gu Family.
Sheng Yueyue had gotten the address from her mother, who had naturally gotten it from Mr. Sheng.
The Gu Family’s move had caught Mr. Sheng’s attention. He had asked Su Shuochi for the address and had secretly come over to the Su family residence for dinner a few times.
Sheng Shiwu was very tight-lipped. Even though he ate at the Su’s every day, he wouldn’t tell his parents.
It was only when Mr. Sheng saw him at the dinner table that he realized his son was shadowing Su Shuochi every day.
When Sheng Yueyue entered the courtyard, she saw a level of luxury she had never witnessed even in her previous life, and she was filled with envy.
She was especially jealous that Gu Jiaojiao had started living a good life after returning to the Gu Family, while she had eaten nothing but chaff and wild vegetables when she was with them.
’So Zijin was right,’ she thought. ’The Gu Family’s foundation is actually this deep. They actually have the money to buy such a huge courtyard!’
’But the Gu Family won’t even give me a single penny. This is outrageous!’
Sheng Yueyue, who had been reluctant to come in the first place, now wore a hideous expression as she yelled, "Is anyone home?"
At that moment, the Gu Family and three members of the Su family were all present. The ones who sold steamed buns in the morning had returned, and they had just finished breakfast.
"Who is it? So aggressive!" Su Qinchun was the youngest, so she was the one who had to greet the visitor.
"Well, well, Sheng Yueyue! What auspicious wind blew you all the way to our home?"
Seeing someone emerge, Song Zijin immediately squeezed Sheng Yueyue’s hand. She could only force a hypocritical smile.
"Oh, it’s Qinchun. I’m here to see my parents. Could you please show me in?"
"See your parents? Your parents aren’t here."
"Qinchun, don’t you know that Mr. Gu is my father? I’ve come to pay them a visit. Please lead the way."
One doesn’t hit a smiling face, as the saying goes. Su Qinchun could only resentfully lead Sheng Yueyue and Song Zijin into the living room.
"Grandpa, Dad, Mom, Eldest Brother, I came here specially to invite you to our wedding tomorrow."
As she spoke, she walked over to Eldest Brother Gu and intimately linked her arm with his.
Eldest Brother Gu was stunned for a moment, then his heart filled with excitement. "Yueyue, you’re getting married tomorrow?"
"Mhm. Dad, do you remember? When I was little, I loved eating fish and shrimp, so you would take my two older brothers to the fields to catch them for me."
Everyone in the Gu Family remained seated, silent. They were completely baffled by Sheng Yueyue’s actions.
Grandpa Gu was wondering what this adoptive granddaughter hoped to gain from their family. ’But we don’t have anything!’
Mr. Gu wondered if his adoptive daughter wanted to go to university and was here to ask him for an admission spot.
Mrs. Gu and Second Brother Gu, however, watched Sheng Yueyue with disdain, stopping just short of rolling their eyes at her.
Only Eldest Brother Gu remained in his seat, thrilled, his eyes filled with emotion.
