Chapter 215: The Strong Never Show Off
"To neutralize this poison, we’ll also need acupuncture and a special traditional medicinal formula," Gu Jiaojiao said with an air of casual confidence.
’She’d already cleared this poison from Su Shuochi once before, so she was quite confident.’
"See? Divine Doctor Su Gu truly lives up to her name as a Divine Doctor. In the end, it still comes down to a secret traditional formula."
Xu Qingxu immediately brightened up. He was won over, and quite naturally began addressing her as Divine Doctor Su Gu.
"Since Elder Xu has no objections, we’ll begin the surgery. First, we need to remove the shell fragment from the patient’s body."
Gu Jiaojiao said to Xia Qiuming. Aside from Gu Jiaojiao herself, Xia Qiuming was the most skilled surgeon present.
A very beautiful young woman followed behind Xu Qingxu, her eyes fixed on Gu Jiaojiao with a venomous glare.
She immediately sneered with disdain. "You’re so young, your medical skills can’t be any good. If you let her treat Grandpa Han, who’s going to take responsibility if something goes wrong?"
"If anything happens during Divine Doctor Su Gu’s treatment, I will take full responsibility," Xia Qiuming stated, his voice firm and decisive.
Jiang Ruyan was furious. She snorted and declared self-righteously.
"Hmph! Divine Doctor Su Gu? Just a young girl who doesn’t know her place, putting on airs like she’s some profound mystery.
And you, Professor Xia, so what if you studied abroad? So what if you have a doctorate?
You all still have to rely on high-tech instruments to treat patients. You have no real experience at all."
The girl’s hostility was completely baffling. Gu Jiaojiao looked at her with a wry smile. "If you’re so capable, then you treat him."
Jiang Ruyan exploded. "What are you laughing at!"
’If she really knew how to diagnose patients just by taking their pulse, she would’ve gone back to school to slack off long ago instead of suffering under the sun and rain in this godforsaken place.’
But she would never admit that. She glared fiercely at Gu Jiaojiao and Xia Qiuming.
Ever since Su Shuochi was disabled, she had set her sights on marrying Xia Qiuming—that "old man." But he would never even give her the time of day.
Yet now, he was smiling at this bewitching woman with such refined gentleness, acting like her little suck-up.
Although the thirty-one-year-old Xia Qiuming was a little old, his reputation was outstanding, making him her best choice.
She was already twenty-two years old; if she didn’t marry soon, she’d be an old maid. That’s why Jiang Ruyan’s face was a mask of resentment the moment she laid eyes on Gu Jiaojiao.
"I’m laughing at your ignorance. This patient’s life is hanging by a thread. Every minute we delay means untold suffering for him.
Are we supposed to stand here listening to your nonsense instead of operating immediately? Keep yapping and I’ll have you thrown out.
I seriously doubt you’re even qualified to be on the front lines. You must have pulled some strings to get here, since you can’t even get your priorities straight."
As she rebuked Jiang Ruyan, Gu Jiaojiao pulled a white coat from her backpack and put it on.
Xia Qiuming and the other surgeons all glared at Jiang Ruyan. They were already in their white coats and didn’t need to change.
So angry she could only stomp her foot, Jiang Ruyan immediately turned to Xu Qingxu and whined, "Master, look at them..."
"Who are you calling Master? How ridiculous. Do you think you can just call anyone that?"
Xu Qingxu bellowed. He had never liked Jiang Ruyan and had been reluctant to take her on as a disciple.
He had only reluctantly brought her along for his granddaughter’s sake. Before, she had at least seemed well-read and polite.
Had he known she was so fond of causing unreasonable trouble, he never would have brought her along. It was utterly humiliating.
Xu Qingxu wanted to stay and observe. His expression instantly changed to a broad smile as he turned to Gu Jiaojiao. "Divine Doctor Su Gu, do I need to change?"
"You don’t need to change. Just stand a little further back and observe. If need be, you can help us stanch the bleeding with silver needles."
Gu Jiaojiao said this decisively, having noticed Xu Qingxu’s slight aversion to the white coat.
She methodically assigned positions to Xia Qiuming and the others. A major surgery requires a primary special assistant, a secondary assistant, and so on.
She took the lead surgeon’s position without a hint of hesitation. Professor Xia didn’t object, and the other surgeons certainly weren’t going to.
They had witnessed Professor Xia’s surgical prowess firsthand; his skill was something they could only dream of attaining.
This was especially true given that Divine Doctor Su Gu’s long bag contained a host of advanced medical equipment, the likes of which they had never seen.
Everyone knew she had a formidable master, so it was no surprise that she possessed such things. The title of Divine Doctor wasn’t earned for nothing.
Divine Doctor Su Gu had the substance to back her confidence, and in this world, strength commanded respect. All they could do was look on in worshipful awe.
"These are all new types of medical instruments. Gather around, and I’ll give you a quick overview of how to use them."
With a great stir, everyone crowded around. They had never even heard of these medical instruments, let alone knew how to use them.
The surgeons listened respectfully to Gu Jiaojiao’s simple explanation, like a group of elementary school students.
Among them was the director of the Military Region General Hospital, a man Jiang Ruyan dreamed of currying favor with.
But now, he was hovering around that enchantress like a student, asking all sorts of questions. His friendly and approachable demeanor was a real eyesore.
Jiang Ruyan’s narrow, dark eyes watched them in horror, welling with tears of resentment.
Her long fingers dug deep into her palms. She felt utterly wronged. Slowly, she lowered her head, not daring to make a sound, hoping someone would take pity on her and call out to her.
But the surgeons who usually vied for her attention now seemed blind to her distress.
She was certain that if she made another peep, that enchantress really would have her thrown out. And if that happened, her future career in the medical field would be over.
Jiang Ruyan glared resentfully at Gu Jiaojiao. ’Just what kind of monster is she?!’
’Her clothes were so unique; a style like that had never been seen in the entire Imperial City.’
’The top was short and cinched at the waist, and the pants were long and wide-legged. On her, it made her look like a living, breathing vixen. Damn, she was beautiful.’
’If I wore an outfit like that, I’d look like a goddess who had descended to the mortal realm.’
Gu Jiaojiao didn’t spare Jiang Ruyan a single glance. She distributed the surgical instruments to the team and taught them how to use each one.
The director personally administered anesthesia to the patient, as he and Xia Qiuming were Gu Jiaojiao’s primary assistants, flanking her on the left and right.
The others took their positions in sequence, and Gu Jiaojiao began the operation. The fluid skill of her movements dazzled the less experienced surgeons.
They stood there, stunned. In the end, only Professor Xia and the director were able to keep up and pass her the required instruments.
The surgery took a full five hours. Afterward, Xia Qiuming deftly hung an IV drip for the patient.
Gu Jiaojiao, meanwhile, began inserting silver needles into the patient while the rest of the medical staff stood by and observed.
Watching Gu Jiaojiao place each needle into a vital acupoint, everyone was filled with utter admiration. It was true what they say: there’s always a higher mountain to climb, always someone better.
True masters don’t need to show off; their results speak for themselves.
On first meeting Divine Doctor Su Gu, she had seemed to be nothing more than a girl of celestial beauty. Who could have imagined that not only were her surgical skills superior to Professor Xia’s...
...but even her acupuncture technique surpassed that of Senior Xu!
Standing beside Gu Jiaojiao, Xu Qingxu said with regret, "Divine Doctor Su Gu, you must be exhausted. I would like to take over with the silver needles, but your technique is very unique. I don’t know how to perform it."
"You’ll get the hang of it if you watch a few more times," Gu Jiaojiao replied. "I am quite tired from the flight today. Next time, I’ll guide you."
"Really? You’ll teach me?" Xu Qingxu asked in disbelief.
